Top Gun Coming Soon To a Theater Near You

Top Gun is 40 years old this year. I know this because I went to a movie theater last weekend and there was a poster of it hanging up. I know that theaters are doing this - having a limited run on the anniversary year of a movie but when I saw 40th anniversary I was like WHAT?!?!!
On my first not-a-date with my now husband, we went to see this in a huge theater that no longer exists. I loved that movie!

Saw it on my 12th birthday at the movie theater on base, the place was packed. It’s not high on my list of rewatchable 80s movies. I wasn’t crazy about Maverick either.

Did the base theater play the National Anthem before the movie? I grew up on a Navy base.
Poultrygeist74@reddit
They probably did, I don’t remember

Were there any U.S. Navy recruiting tables set up in the theater lobby ?

They already did it here, last week I believe. It’s gone now.

I had no idea. Just booked our seats. But holy shit…40 years?!?!?!

I was just looking at our theater now playing

That damned soundtrack though. My girlfriend insisted on playing "Take My Breath Away" on repeat every time we had sex. That got tedious.

I think she was trying to sell you something and you were not getting the hint! lol.

My favorite drive in is showing a double feature. Top Gun 1&2. Should be fun!

Hard to watch crazy Scientologist Tom Cruise but it is a classic.

Loved it when I was twelve.
Watched it again in my early 40s and came away with two main points:
1) It is very gay. Not “gay” like a pejorative like “oh, that’s so gay!” It’s gay in the sense that it is soft core homoeroticism. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
2) The flight scenes are incredibly thrilling cinematography. Everything that happens between the flight scenes is *fucking stupid.*

Hated it.

This time I'll keep my eyes open for the kissing!

Kid?!? It was our HS senior movie (we rented out the theater).

You were still kids too, tbf.

My then GF/now wife won a radio call-in contest and won us free tickets to an advanced screening of Top Gun in 1986, plus a chance to win Tom Cruise's leather jacket from the movie.
My god, that was a long time ago. 🤣

I remember that everyone I knew loved that film and I hated it. I did like TG: Maverick however.

The opening scene for Top Gun is the best!
Continuum_Design@reddit
Who’s up there?
Cougar and Merlin and Maverick and Goose, sir.
Great. Maverick and Goose.

I did not know I needed this until now!

According to “big data” and “AI” … 1986 was 40 years ago. I’ve requested a recount
