There are some shocking statistics about the likelihood of strangulation being part of teenage sex. They see it online and assume it's normal. Same for many other things that we wouldn't our kids doing at 15 or whatever.

Choking is normal though?
My last four female sexual partners have all asked for it, without me even bringing it up.
I keep hearing these lists of what is and isn't normal, and most of the "not normal" things are acts myself and my female partners regularly engage in.
And I don't even watch porn!
Chinablue_@reddit
And also young/inexperienced women offer all sorts of things which don't personally do it for them to please a partner. Not saying this is true for you, just that your statement no way proves that they're not just doing it to make you like them more/because everyone has been doing it since they were teens :)

Great, consenting adults can do what they like!! I personally don't think 15 yr olds shouldn't be engaging in risky sex play, that shouldn't be normal for them, even if 99% of adults engage in it!

The fact that you're censoring the word "porn" makes me think you're not the kind of parent to have this conversation with your child yourself.
The schools know what they're doing.

Blimey school has changed since my time.

There is a lot of rotten PSHE content and a little that’s sane.
Use the content to talk about this with your kids and explain about consent and what’s real, for grownups, and how they are empowered to (a) say no at any time and (b) always to tell you when others say to keep secrets from you, because you are always on their side more than someone in class or online.
If you have sons the Men At Work site is good to know about.
Jo Bartosch’s book about p*rn is a good read, for you, for background.
If you find the materials inappropriate for your child and family don’t be afraid to raise this with the school. They tend to use 3rd party materials and some are pretty lax.

I once audited a year 9 PSHE lesson and it was very obvious that a lot of the answers the kids came up with were from having watched porn multiple times. It's much better to have the discussion to help inform and contextualise what they are watching before it becomes fixed in their developing brains as normal.

100% should be addressed. My generation grew up with unfiltered internet and access to things I should not have been viewing at the ages of 10-15 with no adult/system in place to teach you the extent of what you are seeing. Teaching children this in the correct way is exactly what schools should be doing.

Citation needed on "mostly".
smelliepoo@reddit
Seeing as the average age of first watching p*rn is now younger than 11, it sounds necessary. It is also far more violent and concerning than it used to be. An educated child is safer than an ignorant child.
BaBaFiCo@reddit
Seems appropriate. Studies have shown children that age are already being exposed to porn. It's important we teach them what to expect, what is acceptable, and what isn't. What's your issue?
a-liquid-sky@reddit
Yes. Informed kids are safe kids.
Obviously they aren't going to show them anything risqué; it will be conversations about the dangers of strangulation etc.
Feel free to ask the school for more information! I'm sure they'd be happy to talk you through what they'll cover in more detail.
