PC Upgrade Advice
Posted by itsqwertyluvss@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 6 comments
Hi, I want to either upgrade my current PC or buy a new one if necessary (current is from many years ago). I use it to record and play games at the same time (usually heavily modded Sims) and for editing on Premiere. I mainly want to fix the lagging when editing and game lag as well, plus just overall speed improvement.
Current Specs:
Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
RAM - 32GB
Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (8GB)
Motherboard - A320M-S2H V2-CF
Max budget is £4k and I'd like to upgrade it ASAP. Not worried about peripherals, just the PC build itself. Any advice is greatly appreciated 😄

What are your preferences? Like color , looks etc. I will make a list accordingly to that
As far as I can tell, you're going to need good CPU power, a decent amount of RAM, a proper motherboard with a lot of M.2 slots for future upgrades and additional slots and a proper GPU like at least a 5070ti would be really beneficial, considering I can imagine you needing the NVENC encoder and Nvidia's features for your work and games.
How many storage drives do you currently own ?

Colour and looks don't matter to me really. I'm usually an all black PC type of person but anything is fine.
There's two in built storage drives; 465gb and 931gb. I also use external hard drives for extra storage but it would be great if I could have more in PC space. Thanks!

About the looks wise , do you care about RGB or prefer no RGB. Since some people prefer without anything like that.
I assume one of the ssds is m.2 and the other one is SATA.
Got it.

I made a list with some decent parts.
As far as I can tell you are content creator right ? So you earn money from your PC. I didn't try maxing the use of the budget but I can if needed.
I put a Ryzen 9 9950X3D , I know it is overkill for Sims since that game is single core focused and doesn't benefit from all of those cores. But during Premiere Pro editing session I can imagine it being useful there a lot. But you could downgrade to a 9800X3D, which is also plenty powerful. Considering while playing Sims 4 the difference is not there or mostly not there.
Optimally to those CPUs I chose the Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360mm aswell so that the cpu gets cooled well.
Motherboard wise I chose a motherboard with 4 m.2 slots , 4 sata ports , a decent amount of USB ports , it has some pcie slots for expansion like if you need to add addionally something or an extra m.2 slot you could use the remaining ones. It is a pretty nice board with a lot of features.
SSD wise I put a strong 2 TB pcie 5.0 ssd with dram cache that will be reliable and optimal for your stuff. For the beginning I can imagine it being useful.
Case wise I just chose one that has good airflow and isn't too pricy , it has good front I/O (like usb c 3.2 gen 2x2) , good quality (the included fans aren't great so I put other stuff), it can fit 2x 3.5/2.5 drives and 2x 2.5 drives.
RAM wise I chose atleast 48 gb kit so you have some headroom since imo 32 gb is the standard these days so a headroom would be optimal especially for you. There is 64 gb too but not sure if is that necessary. How is your memory usage while you do the stuff like record and edit , play games ?
(Well I don't know if you like the look of those 48 gb kit a lot but those were the only kits that were proper and were okay priced for today's standards)
This is the 64 gb kit : https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/v7RnTW/biwin-black-opal-dw100-rgb-64-gb-2-x-32-gb-ddr5-6000-cl30-memory-b5dw100646030er2g-cb013
PSU wise I chose a proper PSU that runs quiet , has good quality components, Is A+ Tier. Isn't too expensive and has a neat feature like the 12v-2x6 cable safety thing.
GPU wise I wasn't sure a lot , 5070ti or 5080 considering you aren't playing a GPU heavy game , the 5070ti having a proper encoder/decoder aswell (2x nvenc encoders , 1x nvdec decoder) and having good amount of performance aswell. In this list however I put the 5080 because we got the room for that.
One with 5070ti https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/2MvBck
Without RGB: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mXbmkD
If you have any extra thoughts or preferences or wishes I could change the parts.
I know you got a huge budget but I still wanted to give you some options.

with 4k budget ur better off building fresh, the a320 mobo is the real bottleneck limiting ur upgrade path. ryzen 7 7800x3d, 32gb ddr5, keep ur 3060ti for now nd upgrade gpu next year when prices drop. that cpu alone will fix ur premiere lag nd handle heavy sims mods easily

Wouldn't a 9800X3D or 9850X3D make more sense considering this person uses CPU dependent stuff? Especially at that budget, cheaping out would be pointless considering this person wants to avoid further headaches.

Or get a new GPU if you by chance stumble on a good deal
