Not sure how anyone is supposed to know this?
Just put the vacuum round.
CaptainChampion@reddit
I know, because I live in OP's walls.
And I can tell ya, that ain't from slugs.
notanadultyadult@reddit
What’s it from then?
CaptainChampion@reddit
My slug.
BowiesFixedPupil@reddit
Pretty pointless, they can squeeze through seemingly impossibly small gaps in for example floorboards.
It will have escaped, follow the trail OP.
Neitzi@reddit
Bro is chilling under a plantpot just outside the backdoor.
weeble182@reddit
It's not a big deal, we get them often due to a drafty basement and cat food being down there. They'll often pop up into the living room above.
Unless you catch them trespassing, you're not going to find them as they'll slip back from where they came in ridiculously tiny holes and cracks
rebelallianxe@reddit
Yes I have an old house and we get them in the kitchen even though it's been remodelled recently. Little blighters can get in through the smallest holes.
Timely_Egg_6827@reddit
Under the sink where it is damp
NixKTM@reddit
Just sprinkle some salt around, then in the morning wipe up the expoded slug 😄

I had this problem and it was my worst living nightmare, I cant even look at the fuckers. Advice if you feel the same, get copper mesh for your air vents, block every hole by the radiator etc that you can and fumigate.
cold_tap_hot_brew@reddit
Fumigate your house? For snails? If they are there during the day, they’ll be hunkered down in their shells but they’ll most likely have only come in to explore then left.
If you want to catch them and kill the try a beer trap at night when they are on the go.
Fumigation is an overreaction for one snail trail.
Gold-Creme-9597@reddit
They're slugs. And it's a well known problem, it is very rarely just one, if you can live with them destroying wood, popping up in your shower / dishwasher etc then great but I could not.
cold_tap_hot_brew@reddit
Aye fair dos if they’re causing structural damage but OP seems to have found one trail and had a wee panic. I don’t think fumigation should be the first port of call in this situation.
scalpingsnake@reddit
Had slugs getting into our house from our conservatory. Rarely saw them in the house but saw their trails. They were going for the dog food/bowls I caught them a couple of times in their bowls. Dangerous too because they carry parasites.
So I would say instead of trying to find them, figure out where they got in and/or what they are after. I assume they don't stay in the house because they need moisture.
Frosty_Leg4438@reddit
Put a dish with a small amount of beer on the floor overnight
Elegant-Mission-4470@reddit
Also do this if you're into petplay with alcoholics
Ok-Department-8771@reddit
This, or a pint glass you don't like. My parents did this when I was a kid and they caught a large one
EarnestHolly@reddit
May have crawled in your ear while sleeping, if only they left a trail
True-Abalone-3380@reddit
The best way to find a slug is come down in the middle of the night to get a glass of water. Don't turn the lights on and make sure you are barefoot, you'll definitely find it that way.
1968Bladerunner@reddit
Exactly what I was gonna sluggest! Did that a few times last year & evicted quite a number before the slugfest ceased.
That said, my slippers & lights were on making them instantly visible, & they were simply too sluggish to hide.
_FreddieLovesDelilah@reddit
Behind the kick boards, only comes out at night.
ForrestGump11@reddit
We had this issue when we moved in our house several years ago, was driving my wife mad. No obvious source except some floorboard gaps at the edge of the door. We later discovered an open pipe under the patio floorboards outside which was causing wet floor underneath and habitat for slugs. Problem disappeared after we fix that and built a solid tiled patio.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
We get this occasionally. They can get in through incredibly small gaps so it is not like one is in a cupboard hiding or something. Probably just got back outside
lxxmng@reddit
It is highly likely that the slug is currently hiding under the door mat or has already slipped back out through a tiny gap in the door frame. They usually avoid crossing dry kitchen floors unless they can smell food. Check the underside of the mat or the area behind your kitchen kickboards if you want to be certain it is not still inside. Most of the time they just realize the tiles are too cold and head back to the garden
The_Logical_Dictator@reddit
These could be cellar slugs. I've got them in my house. They come out at night and so easy to catch if you're up in the middle of the night for any reason.
BerkshireKnight@reddit
It's me, I'm under the washing machine
Asleep-Software-4160@reddit
They can get in through airbricks then come up at the edges of the floor under the cabinets if your floor doesn't extend under the cabinets.
SuboptimalOutcome@reddit
It's hidden, they're devious little critters. I had one, I think my cat brought it in, every morning I could see a trail on the mat where the cat food bowls are, checked everywhere but I couldn't find it.
I kept the lights off in there when I wasn't in and managed to catch it randomly one day, on it's way to pillage more cat food.
CellistLow8857@reddit
Almost certainly it went back outside! Do you have pets? We found when our cat food was up against an exterior wall then slugs would somehow find their way inside! We moved the pet food to the wall furthest from the outside wall and the slugs never came back!
Rubberfootman@reddit
It happens on wet days sometimes. They come in from outside, explore a bit and then go out again.
Unless it is really damp, your kitchen isn’t a good place for them to stay.
