Which supermarkets require ID for home deliveries?

I’m 23 and don’t have photo ID. The last few times I’ve answered the door for the Tesco shop for my mother in law, I’ve been asked for ID and couldn’t provide one so I’ve had to ask her to come to the door instead. I know now that this is standard for Tesco, but is it like this for other supermarkets? I was thinking of trying Ocado but I don’t want to waste anyone’s time if they wouldn’t be able to deliver it due to my lack of ID

I mean its only if they order age restricted products so just ask them to not put those in if there not going to answer the door themselves . Its the law to ask for I.D for that kind of thing .
KingForceHundred@reddit
No, it’s for any order.
RoutineCloud5993@reddit
I've never been ID'd for supermarket deliveries unless there was something age-restricted. Knives, alcohol, etc
Maybe it just seems like every order because you're ordering a bottle of wine with every shop or something

“All goods must be signed for on delivery by an adult aged 18 years or over.”
https://www.tesco.com/shop/en-GB/zone/grocery-terms-and-conditions/

They stopped requiring signatures during the pandemic too.
KingForceHundred@reddit
But did they relax the age too?

🤷

There’s only food in there, nothing age restricted like alcohol or medications. Just a regular food shop, which is why it confused me so much being asked for ID
Original_Document748@reddit
Oh thats odd , I mean just your MIL to answer the door from now on. Why dont you just get ID? if its about cost you can get a UK ID card . There pretty cheap
lacksfocusattimes@reddit
It’s not. The delivery can’t be left with anyone under 18.
Serious_Badger_4145@reddit
Are you buying alcohol? Can't say I've ever been id'd for a grocery delivery tbh
Normal-Height-8577@reddit
Sometimes it's also for medication like paracetamol. I haven't had to produce ID, but I have been asked for my date of birth.
Serious_Badger_4145@reddit
Have they changed the age for paracetamol? It used to be 12
Key_Peja@reddit
Paracetamol is 16 to purchase
Serious_Badger_4145@reddit
Huh didn't know that
Normal-Height-8577@reddit
I'm honestly not sure. I just gave them my birth year and carried on unpacking the groceries!

Tesco have never asked for ID. If the kids open the door they do check there is a grown up around though. And presumably if there wasn't they might refuse to deliver the wine? We have never tested this theory - I might ask next time in case I need to leave the kids in charge of taking the delivery at any point.
Single-Aardvark9330@reddit
It's meant to be only for ages restricted products, but I have had it once or twice where they've asked anyway
OnlymyOP@reddit
Its pretty much standard for all Supermarkets and is in their T&C's they can ask for ID at anytime but are required to do it for age restricted products and even anything like otc painkillers or cold/flu tablets.
Euphoric-Wall-2576@reddit
I've never been IDed by Tesco and I get deliveries from them all the time. I wonder if it was because the name on the delivery clearly wasn't yours and they were checking the shopping was getting to the right person?
Manbry@reddit
As far as far m.aware you only get age ch ck d for alcohol, some medications, sharp as bjects and some aerosols/solvents X Im with Tesco but also use Ocado.
jammy445@reddit
Probably easier to just go get a form of ID
hughesyg@reddit
Could you just get an ID?
TheInitialGod@reddit
Perhaps maybe get a form of ID? You're doing yourself absolutely no favours here not having one. Like playing Life in Hard Mode for no reason.
Boboshady@reddit
All of them, technically, if you're asking for age-restricted items - alcohol, some medicines, knives etc.
I know that gig delivery drivers (ubereats, just eat etc) are tested with secret shoppers to ensure they're doing the appropriate age verification checks, so I assume it happens with supermarket deliveries too.
I never get 'ID'd' but then I am obviously an old bastard.
It's time to get yourself some photo ID of some kind, even if it's just like a provisional driving licence or similar.
FullDinner506@reddit
I think you’ll find that’s across all supermarkets. Not sure if it’s actually a legal requirement or voluntary, but if you look under 25 they will ask for ID if there’s any age-restricted products being delivered
feetflatontheground@reddit
No one has ever asked me for ID for grocery delivery. I mainly use Ocado. I don't look under 25 anyway, and my groceries don't have any restricted items in them.
I think because of your age, all of them will probably ask you for id.
One_Philosophy_6591@reddit
You can buy a citizen card which is accepted as ID in the UK. They're cheap and they arrive super quickly. The form is easy to fill out too.
Phat-Lines@reddit
Honestly I’d just get a provisional driving license. It only takes about a week to come if you order online.
