ULPT: Can I fake a lease to get out of a gym contract?

The gym I signed up for is WAY overfull and I do not want to continue paying 40 a month for the absolute displeasure of driving 30 minutes and having zero access to a treadmill or bench lol. I'm familiar with the option of switching in app location to CA to cancel in app. Well, my gym doesn't have that and says you can only come in person with a lease showing you are moving. How can I beat the system here lol

Staples sells a boiler plate lease, you can also google it and find a lease you just need to enter details of, it’s pretty simple.

Maybe call and ask about how to prove it if youre subletting or moving back in with a parent?
Potentially could also have AI draft a lease agreement for you for a independent landlord not a rental company. Add the phone number for a trusted friend aware of the ruse and hope for the best.

Just don’t you hypothetical landlord “Harry Balzack”

I took that personally.

Just get a new debit card.

A few things...
Lots of landlords are just regular people. My parents rent out houses. A lease is just something they print out- you can find templates online.
If you go to any large rental complex, if you pretend to interested, ask about availability, and just seem like you are serious and then ask for a copy of the lease agreement and their policies, they will just give you a blank one.
It's just paper.
And nobody has any obligation to confirm that you really live there or anything like that.
Personally, what I do, is get a credit card that lets you generate virtual cards (I have the X1 but it's been discontinued). Then generate a unique number for each business. Then you can cancel just the card you use for the gym membership.

woah, tell me more about the generated cards!
Mediocre-Pizza-Guy@reddit
I think they call them virtual credit cards.
With the X1 card, you get a physical card, but also an app on your phone. Inside the app you can literally just click and it will generate a new card. In the app you can see all the cards and all charges for each card. And you can cancel then individually.
I don't know of any current ones, but I think they are still around. It doesn't cost me anything extra to do it, but the card doesn't have the best rewards or whatever.

Many--perhaps most--issuers offer virtual cards these days. Look on their website.

If you need help with this, lmk

Thanks, I will. Busy weekend ahead so I'm hoping to get to it Monday

You can download a lease form from the internet - and put in anything you want. The forms are free. Use search to find a likely town/housing complex and use their address...

Had the exact same thing happen with Planet Fitness. Fucking predatory is what it is. They figure you'll just let the charges keep going because they make it hard enough to cancel.
Just call your bank/card provider and have them block those transactions. When I mentioned Planet Fitness the service rep understood exactly, she even asked how long it had been since I stopped using their facilities and charged back those months as well.
Own_Average_5940@reddit (OP)
Wow! I didn't know that was an option. I will contact my bank lol.

Which gym is it? There are different tactics for different gyms.

OneLife?

I had to tell DirecTV I was going to prison to get them to cancel it for me

Go in with fake military orders requiring you to move. Google “military pcs orders,” I’m sure you can find something online and change the name.

Go for it. Gyms are horrible to break up with. Don't feel bad!
Mysterious-Status-44@reddit
You can literally print out a lease agreement template and fill it out however you need to.
