A while back I posted here about my kids Ridstar q20 and got no help, and a bunch of condensing answers. Due to the recall

Forum members have repeatedly warned against purchasing Ridstar for many many months. That was very helpful advice had your son taken it.

No, it's not but the comment still applies. There have been countless posts on this forum over the last year warning about quality issue with Ridstar. Every time a kid asks for feedback about getting one, the forum warns not to but they get it anyway.

I don't know how he intends to use it or how old he is.
Aventon Soltera 2.5 is a great lightweight, low power bike at $1199. Capped at class 2 (20mph).
If you want a great deal on a fat tire bike, you won't beat the Vanpowers Grand Teton Pro for $899 after discount. Uses some very respectable components. I don't recommend fat tire bikes typically, but the deal cannot be denied.
The Ride1Up Prodigy V2 at $1795 is an exceptional deal for a Brose middrive with air fork.
The Ride1Up Vorsa Lite $1495 is an excellent all-arounder with outstanding power.
The two most popular commuters are the Aventon Level 4 REC and Velotric Discover 3 coming in at $2k on the nose.
If he is under 16 and your state restricts class 3 ebikes to ages 16 and up (like many do), the Soltera is probably the best pick. The top speed of most of the other bikes can be set to 20mph but anyone in possession of the bike can easily override that.

That's likely to be illegal on any public roads or trails. Anything that goes over 28mph or has a motor exceeding 750 Watts nominal/continuous is illegal in most US states. If you are in Canada, the restrictions are even more severe, to my knowledge.

We Live rural , so we have lots of trails, pipeline, forestry roads to cruise around on so the street legal part doesn't really effect him.

Maybe, but this sub gets the exact same posts every single day. It's always the same few things:
1) People asking what the best ebike is under $300 (or some other impossibly low price)
2) How to do illegal modifications to their bike.
3) Showing off/bragging about riding illegally or otherwise irresponsibly.
4) Complaining that their $300 dropshipped bike has broken and they can't get support.
Some of the negativity is unwarranted, I will agree with you there, but also you have to understand how sick and tired people are of seeing those same few things over and over and over and over constantly.
