Notice the ECAM, ECU, standby gauges, and especially the MCDU

it’s mental how old the A320 is considering how it’s still getting significant upgrades and seemingly not showing its age, 737 (while a lot older ik) is getting less cool upgrades and just seems plagued by design constraints from its age

You should see some of these America West and US Airways birds I have to work on lol
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit (OP)
I rode one of them from KPHL-KBOS, did not enjoy it at all
Foggl3@reddit
That's because 121 is a 26 year old US Air relic, probably had that shitty white plastic interior and 404 is a 7 year old NEO
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I know, but holy shit I didn't think it would be such a huge difference going from a A321neo to a A320ceo

I hate the 320s in our fleet, they all need to go rot in the desert.

They opted to install EIS2 avionics, which IIRC needs a massive facelift because the old CRTs used SGs built into the screens themselves, at least they are disappearing in 3 years

maybe i’m just spoiled by european and middle eastern carriers

The A320 is definitely showing its age. The avionics are outdated and feel stuck in the 80s. I mean half the time you can't even read the FCU because it is so dim. Look at the 737 Max, the avionics blow the 320 out of the water.

The fact that this was an advertisement from 1985 it strangely feels like this ad was made in more recent times. Crazy that the cockpit design is still very much similar today to what was planned back then. Pretty timeless design if you ask me.

Can you believe this flew when the DC10 was still actively being produced.
ce402@reddit
DC-10?
The MD-80 was in active production for 13 years after the first A320 entered service.
ManWithTheWand@reddit
Well tbh MD80 flew just 8 years before the A320 while the DC10 was almost 2 decades old at that point.

I miss the days when "The Future" was little green squares.
Videogames. Movies. Everything.
Take me back.

I think it was a clever marketing move to remove the headrests from the seats to let us see the sidesticks to emphasize that "futuristic/digital" feel 😄
Dreamerlax@reddit
Not too different from the actual config.
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit (OP)
FCU and ECAM says otherwise
Ok_Library_1031@reddit
I'd assume someone at Braniff II saw this ad and bought it :D
vinticious@reddit
Cool! Are you able to scan it?
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit (OP)
That's not mine, I found this on ebay when i was looking around for MCDUs for fun
cheetuzz@reddit
that looks impressively futuristic for 1985!

Wait until you see the Gulfstream V
