One side: I knew someone who lived near a major league baseball stadium and drunk baseball fans were always peeing in his yard on their way back to their cars after games. He never did anything about it because he figured that was the cost of living too close to the stadium. Other side: But I also knew someone who drank too much and peed on a bush in the wrong person's yard. Cops were called, guy was arrested for public indecency, lost his job. Oops.

It really depends on the context. If I'm having a bonfire in a rural area with only close friends, it's pretty much expected for you to just go pee over by the trees. The nearest toilet could be anywhere from a few hundred feet to a quarter mile away, while the trees are about 30 feet away.

Ummmexcuse me- I grew up peeing outside at my brothers soccor games- Now as an adult - golf courses- very common to go off in the trees Hiking- my wife even pees outside- she’s taught the girls If we’re outside by the fire- I’ll go off behind the garage and hedgerow - frankly the walk may be further than the bathroom I work I’m in corp America and my old boss was a woman, she was older (retirement) raised kids- we were driving and I said “I really need to use the restroom- we can find a gas station or if you’re cool with it pull over and I’ll pee in the ditch” I peed in the ditch - she didn’t even think twice and just pulled over to avoid jacking around looking for a gas station Used to pee our names in the snow Soooooo much peeing outside- albeit usually discretely Now that I think about it- we saw it outside Monaco / Italy too- (pretty nice area) guy was on the side of the road peeing before he got back in and drove away - it’s pretty hilly there, gas stations not always the easiest

Dogs can pee anywhere they want. On the sidewalk, grass, bushes almost anywhere outdoors. This is completely acceptable. But a human discretely pees in the bushes and it is the end of the world. Is human urine way more toxic than dog urine?

I'd say it depends a lot. *Generally*, it would be pretty impolite. But it gets less impolite if the answers to more of these questions is yes: -Do you live in the middle of nowhere? -Are they Appalachian or otherwise "country"-coded? -Did they know you were home when they started peeing? -Are you "the cool parents?" I grew up in a small/midsize city in the rust belt and I wouldn't think anything of peeing in an alley or some bushes at a college drinking buddy's house, but if his *parents* were standing right there I'd definitely expect to get chewed out lol. I've definitely done my share of peeing in alleys, behind bushes, into canals etc.

That did happen to a local business owner in my town in Indiana. He was in the deep woods, no one around, but a ranger came across him peeing in the woods and arrested him with public exposure.

This is true. My old dentist was driving his 13 yo daughter and her friend home from some evening event. He really had to pee and as it was a rural area he pulled over and got out of the car to pee. He said he went a ways from the car, but the daughter’s friend told her mom, and… long story short he’s no longer a practicing dentist. He got charged with something related to child sex. I’m not sure what but it was quite scandalous when it happened.

I pee outside almost daily. Because I live in the woods where no one can see my house and because I can. I also do not drink. If you're in the woods, walk out and find a tree and go for it. If you're in some suburban/urban environment where there's people around and you just pee on someone's house or in the bushes, that's incredibly crass and shouldn't be tolerated tolerated.

I would say it's common if you know the people and they are cool with it. For example, when my buddy hosts a BBQ, there is a designated tree that we'll pee behind so we're not constantly going inside. Now obviously you're not dropping your pants in the middle of public but if you found a tree or a bush and it's dark or away from people, especially after a few beers, it's pretty common.

I agree. I think the important part of this is that they almost certainly meant no disrespect even though their behavior is nasty. They were young drunk college guys and yeah, it’s not as uncommon a practice as it should be. They probably felt embarrassed on the morning if they remembered they actually held a conversation while doing it.

I’ve definitely done it, not usually when there’s a home with a restroom. That’s not to say I’ve NEVER pee’d in someone’s yard, but it’s like, walk to the back fence as far away as possible. Normally I do it when I have to, long road trips, hunting/fishing trips, what have you. Pissing in someone’s bush’s/driveway is rough, maybe they were just wasted.

I live in a Southern California beach city with a ton of college students. And lots and lots of bars. And young military men. If you get caught peeing outside you will get a ticket for indecent exposure. My friend had an alley behind her house and guys would piss in the little alcove to the gate access to her backyard. She installed a motion light and sprinkler.

Peeing on a building or bush in a public-ish area (like an alley outside the bar) is somewhat common, and how rude it is or isn't varies from person to person. I think generally the idea is that you can't always get to a bathroom (or through the line for the bathroom) as fast as you might need to pee, so going somewhere out of the way to take care of it isn't unheard of. Peeing in the bushes of your friend's house, instead of going inside to use their bathroom is NOT common and I think universally rude.

It's normal for drunk white men, but discouraged. Public indecency laws are meant to stop this sort of thing, but white people are, uh... less worried about being murdered by law enforcement than non-white folks tend to be, so don't take the laws as seriously as they might.
