Bought a switch bot on Amazon to keep the truck running and stop anti idle
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
Piss in a cup and stick the air temp sensor in it... not that I know from experience... of course that only works if your sensor is mounted to the frame and your truck will allow idling if air temp is over a certain temp...
*Just another reason I'm glad the only OTR driving I do these days is contract work for racing teams and includes hotels nightly *
Electronic-Newt4761@reddit
wait this is brilliant and disgusting at same time lmao. my buddy used to do similar trick with hair dryer pointed at his sensor when parked at truck stops - worked like charm until someone caught him and reported to his company. the racing team gig must be sweet though, getting hotels instead of sleeping in cab every night. i remember when my cousin was driving OTR he told me stories about these anti idle systems and how drivers would get creative with workarounds. some guy he knew actually rigged up small heater element from old coffee maker to keep sensor warm but that sounds like fire hazard waiting to happen
Aggravating-Ideal-56@reddit
Tape hand warmers on the sensor. So much easier than a hair dryer lmao
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
The problem is hand warmers or air dryers can put the temperature out of range on the sensor potentially causing a fault that prevents idling. 98 degrees is perfectly within the range of any temperature sensor.
Aggravating-Ideal-56@reddit
Used hand warmers all the time back in the day never had an issue
56778rg@reddit
Sometimes there's a temperature sensor behind the driver side side mirror, tape a small light to it,
United_News3779@reddit
A method with less bodily waste....
12v electric heat trace, taped to the sensor or otherwise held in place. It'll get it plenty warm enough to be above the high temp threshold for the idle parameters.
Aggravating-Ideal-56@reddit
Tape hand warmers to the sensor. They last 8 hours
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
Where is the temp sensor on a freightliner cascadia 2024? Can you please give an image
SnooChipmunks6620@reddit
It's at the bottom of the driver mirror. You'll see a small bump, that's the sensor. I drive a 2016 so it might not be the same.
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
I think my truck is on something it 55 out right now but my truck says it’s 77 and it’s dark lol
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
Darn faulty sensors 😂
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
Hey I’d rather it say it’s hotter than it is
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
As long as it idles so you can actually control the temperature!
fmccloud@reddit
Amazing. $6/gallon diesel and bro is doing this.
Usa696969@reddit
What does it do
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
It's a robot that constantly presses the engine shutdown override button
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
How much was it? I bought something similar when I worked for Western Express, but that other device that is cheaper than switchbot never worked.
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
Lopsided_Delivery_93@reddit
Oh wow I actually see it now on Amazon.
Do you mind posting a video how it hits the button? Thanks
yeah-no-yeah-no@reddit
I bought the same one and it works like a charm. Set up wasn’t that intuitive, but thankfully I’m on the techy side of things, so I figured it out. Enjoy your comfort mode ;)
Vegetable-Peace2418@reddit
I’ve got the same thing dawg , finger bot lol
possibly_lost45@reddit
New volvos don't have an over ride button....
Honch777@reddit
Does the Cruise Control + holding an RPM above idle trick not work anymore?
unftp-0@reddit
Doesn’t work in some trucks and the override button doesn’t work in some trucks. All depends
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
Luckily my over ride works
unftp-0@reddit
Yup good thing, is it quiet? My company just lets us idle all we want
SchityCityGangBang@reddit
Yeah same smaller companies or companies that run cold climates usually won’t put drivers thru that bs. If I need to idle then there’s a reason…. Mostly.
BrandontheCDLguy@reddit
Manufacturers hated that one simple trick and put an end to that years ago.
DenseCommunication82@reddit
Our 2026 has it
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
I’ve never tried that but before I was using a broom to keep the rpms up but would still come on after about 20 mins
West_Imagination3237@reddit
How much was it?
whodat209@reddit
There like 25 or so dollars
West_Imagination3237@reddit
Oh wow. That's adorable. I expected twice that. Thanks
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
So glad my 2015 389 Peterbilt doesn’t have this bs in it.
CashWideCock@reddit
Any truck can have it or not have it. The settings in the trucks engine computer are set to the parameters of the person who own or is in charge of the trucks.
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
Mine is a Glider with a C-15 Cat in it. Doesn’t have it. I have an Apu on my truck.
itsaheem@reddit
fuck yeah C15 good motor 👍👍 the boss had one years ago i used to drive now and then, it was strong as hell
Unfair_Fisherman_605@reddit
I love my truck. He’s got 841k on it. Currently in the shop getting head work done. Will have new injectors put in as well. This is the first overhaul it’s had since I got it, so overall I am very pleased with it.
itsaheem@reddit
very jealous 😎 we don't have gliders in Oz huh
CashWideCock@reddit
A laptop can be plugged into the truck’s engine computer and an idle timer can be set, any truck that is computer controlled can have an idle timer set.
snarksneeze@reddit
This is also how you take it off. If you don't have the software, just drop the next roadside mechanic you meet a couple of 20s to "fix" it for you
LonleyWolf420@reddit
The problem is now adays is every shop that has the software has its own login codes. it logs who did what and when with the parameters and if they get caught doing anything that wasn't approved properly with the company that owns the truck they can lose there license to use the software.. companies also can lockout the parameters with there own password and even set up alerts for when someone tries to log into the truck..
Mindes13@reddit
Guy said glider with a cat, probably doesn't have an ecu
CashWideCock@reddit
A C-15 has a computer.
Accomplished-Salt797@reddit
I thought you was being sarcastic, I was looking for something wrong 😭😄
whodat209@reddit
Fuck Working for these companies that don’t let you control the temperature in the truck. It’s ridiculous. They don’t want you to idle put some sort of APU on it then there should be a law on that.
SnooChipmunks6620@reddit
Anytime I want my truck to run full time, I leave the parking brakes off as long as I am attached to a trailer. Do you guys not do this?
TruckerAlurios@reddit
It's for the lane departure junk
genocyde26008219@reddit
I just crack my windows and leave “auto start” enabled with “auto sleeper climate control” turned on…in Phoenix/Tucson/Yuma/Vegas 🌚🌚😂😂😂😂. (Thank you OP! 🙏)
Blaze1991c@reddit
Just fint where the ambient air temp sensor is and unplug it's usually in the mirror or somewhere behind the grill. Stops the idle shut down.
Aware-Apple-8363@reddit
You should give us a link ,for people such as myself that doesn't have a clue what to look for
hgrrrtt@reddit (OP)
Just search SwitchBot on Amazon around 25 dollars
