Will people think I’m weird for moving to another part of the UK for a minimum wage job?

I want to move as I’m unhappy with my life and don’t like where I live. I’m worried if do people I meet will think I’m weird for moving to another part of the country for a minimum wage job. As realistically with my job prospects that’s all I can get.
bars_and_plates@reddit
People do this all of the time. If you wander into basically any shop in London the person serving you probably moved there for a minimum wage job.
I personally can't really make sense of it. But I don't think it's "weird" in the sense that it's not abnormal, it is quite common.
No-Suspect-6104@reddit
I think moving for yourself rather than a job is a far more compelling reason to relocate
IllPanic4319@reddit
If they think your weird they're not worth your time !
Rika_rena@reddit
Some people might think it's weird but it's not really important. I'm from a very touristy area in Spain and people wonder why I would move to the UK. It's a bit funny but they obviously don't know the whole story.
Original_Document748@reddit
Its not weird to move for your MH which is what it sounds like your moving for . I would admire that not find it weird . I hope it goes well and I hope your happier where you move to .
Sea_Kangaroo826@reddit
People thought it was weird when I moved here from America and worked a minimum wage job but I don't really care about what they thought
LemmysCodPiece@reddit
Do what you want to do. Do give what other people think a second thought.
Kickkickkarl@reddit
If you think moving elsewhere will solve all your problems they won't. They will also follow you elsewhere so maybe look and reflect upon yourself in your current situation and try and work on it.

You'll start with minimum wage but hopefully you won't stay there.
And people move for lots of reasons. You can say you fancied a change, or a fresh start.
TheTackleZone@reddit
I think people will respect it more than you think. They might even wish they had the courage to do it.
SpectreSingh89@reddit
Not weird. When I was 23 to 30 I was only at a Minimum wage due to being still with parents.
My BIGGEST regret in life?? Not having moved out at 23-24 and exert myself in life. Yes u start off below (minimum wage, entry level or handyman etc) but u get experience, a network of friends and higher prospects.
It is minimum but is there overtime available? Doubled rate? That can be yer lifeline. Or second job like Uber / Just Eat driver set your own days and hours?
summerloco@reddit
They might not think you’re weird. They might just want to understand your logic.
TheOnlyNadCha@reddit
You’re not moving for the job, you’re moving for a change of scenery. Nothing weird about that! If anything getting a job before moving (even a minimum wage job) was the safe thing to do so good for you, enjoy!
TheOnlyNadCha@reddit
And who knows what opportunities you’ll find when you get there. Jobs, human connections… it’s exciting!
Resident_Ebb_9354@reddit
Not at all. I’ve moved from Liverpool to Cornwall and then to London…people move all the time. But make sure you’re moving for the right reasons and not ‘running away’ - your problems will follow.
evenifihateit@reddit
Who cares what people think? It's not weird at all to move in pursuit of a happier life.
ZeroCool5577@reddit
No one will really care I’ve done it myself
MercatorLondon@reddit
did you ask those people you are worried about? Or are you worried about opinions of general public who doesn’t even know you exist?
BG3restart@reddit
If moving will improve your life and make you happier, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Be happy.
Swimming-Lie5369@reddit
People move all the time. It isn't something that people will comment on.
My closest friends don't know how much my job makes without me telling them. Random people don't even know what I do.
I promise no one is thinking about you that much.
Who_Knows_M3@reddit
People move for a hundred and one reasons. Noone else is judging which or why
Intrepid_Bearz@reddit
If people think you’re weird, let them. Moving to start over can be the best thing. If we’re not trying to find happiness in life, what are we even doing? You’re trying to improve your situation and that’s doesn’t have to be about finances. Minimum wage is what a lot of people make do with. Quality of life, who you surround yourself with , where you live, those things matter.
No_Height_2408@reddit
Just say you are moving for a fresh start
33backagain@reddit
You’ll be going to where they call home and they’ve chosen to live. They won’t think you wanting to live there is weird.
CarpeCyprinidae@reddit
People do this all the time, usually moving from high cost of living areas to low cost of living areas - if a job pays the same wherever its based it makes sense to do it where its cheapest to live
Pleasant-Doctor-5711@reddit
The job is just the excuse. The move is the point. Go.
blueroses8000@reddit
You’re not moving for the job at all though, you’re moving for a better life somewhere that makes you happier so you should only frame it like that. A job doesn’t define you, that kind of thinking gets drilled into us.
hepheastus_87@reddit
Nope, its exactly what I've recently done. I'm so much the better for it as well
CoffeeIgnoramus@reddit
No, lots of people move for many reasons. And from the very first sentence you've already explained why you're moving, it's not for the job, it's for a nicer life.
ActionBirbie@reddit
So...... Not really for a minimum wage job, then?
Shot-Specialist-9841@reddit
Who cares bro as long as your happy
Sad-Grade6972@reddit
No, I don't think it's weird at all. If you're unhappy and with nothing stopping you, then if you feel a change would give you an emotionally and mentally better quality of life, you should. If you bottle it out of fear of the unknown, or what others think, you'll only regret it and always wonder. Tbh, I think people would respect you for being proactive enough to make a bold change for the better! Good luck!
Helpful_Western7298@reddit
Respectfully, people dont care about you. Everyone is worried about their own life.
Cactus-Cat1@reddit
This! Friends say this to me a lot, as I always overthink what others may think. They say to me, 'In the nicest way possible, people don't give a sh*t about you!' 😅 Which is very true, everyone's wrapped up in their own lives.
Cactus-Cat1@reddit
If you're unhappy where you are currently, and like the sound of it, I say go for it! If not you may look back in 6months/a year and think, I wish I did move :/
If worse comes to worse and you don't enjoy it, there's nothing stopping you moving back where you are... And atleast then you don't have any regrets, as you can think 'at least I gave it a go'... Go for it, it can be an exciting new adventure! Don't like it? You can move back :)
aspannerdarkly@reddit
Nah. You don’t even have to tell them
Bounce_Bounce_Betty@reddit
I wouldn’t think it was weird. Do what makes you happy. Life is too short not to do something just incase people think it’s a bit odd.
And in terms of job prospects. Minimum wage might be where you are at now but don’t sell yourself short. There’s so many free courses and learning you can do now online. Or look into any government initiatives available to you to get further education or practical training. You don’t need to be stuck where you are now.
Substantial_Bank4610@reddit
Do what makes you feel happy, don’t give a dime what people think.
SmokeStatus1593@reddit
Doesn’t sound like you’re moving for a job. You’re moving for your mental health. Good luck.
