themuck@reddit
I had completely forgotten about these until just now.
Temporary-Library597@reddit
So did everyone else at the table. They ALL draw blood.
brainfreeze77@reddit
We didn't have a dishwasher and my moment hated dishes sw we used these for 99% of our meals. I thought itnwa normal until I moved out.
Cozy_Minty@reddit
We had plastic ones with little tabs that held the plate on. A plate for your plate
hereforthebreakdown@reddit
You only had to use these if you were not a Chinet family. We were not a Chinet family so we had these.
GreenZebra23@reddit
Exactly. These days you can find structurally sound paper plates for not very much more than the classic flimsy ones, but back in those days they were fancy
Temporary-Warning883@reddit
If they’re the super cheap plates you still gotta make sure you had 2-3 of them, I never trusted just one
frolicndetour@reddit
That must be where my trust issues originated 🤔
elphaba00@reddit
My mom kept a set in the camper for those weekend trips
The_Best_Yak_Ever@reddit
Whoa… that’s a core memory unlocked. We had these! Summer dinners and picnics…
I miss those days… 80’s and 90’s…

Im having a hard time finding these in t h e right sizes. I
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
It's all fun and games until a wicker shard goes under your fingernail.
imhereforthevotes@reddit
when you get it in the butt cheek from a wicker kitchen chair... or wicker yard furniture.
just-_-just@reddit
Those chairs always got me in trouble. I'd sit there picking at it and breaking off every loose piece. Slowly disintegrating the furniture. SLAP
theelephantupstream@reddit
My mother and aunt would yell, “WHO INVITED THE FAA?!” at you. That stood for Furniture Abusers of America ™️. I don’t know who came up with this joke but they got a solid 4 decades out of it.
imhereforthevotes@reddit
how can you not?
ospfpacket@reddit
Better than spaghetti on a paper plate without one, you know how cheap those things were,
AetheriaInBeing@reddit
My mom had a set of these in plastic when I was a kid. Was always fun to get those out when it was burgers and dogs for dinner.
musashi-swanson@reddit
Well, do we think a paper plate will support a steaming pile of Hamburger Helper on its own?
hyjnx@reddit
Pretty sure my parents still have them and use them.
elonmusktheturd22@reddit
That was all of them wasn't it?
Coffeewithmyair@reddit
It was this or TV trays. Do they even make TV trays anymore?
frolicndetour@reddit
Yes, but they are REALLY hard to find in sets with the stand any more. My parents' set gave up the ghost after like 30 years and they asked for a replacement set and the best I could find at the time were some individual ones, because they only like the ones with metal legs, not wood.
melissa_fornow@reddit
Absolutely. I've got two of them within arm's reach right now, serving as desk extensions.
magsli@reddit
Still use them!
frolicndetour@reddit
My mom got rid of them when she downsized. After she moved into her new place, I was making lunch and was rooting around looking for them and she was like, oh I tossed them. 😮
Hairy_Ad4969@reddit
Me too. Things must be older than I am
AppleSeed81@reddit
Likewise, still got a dozen or more stacked up in the pantry at camp. Clutch for eating sandwiches off your lap on the front porch
jackfaire@reddit
I mean it literally wasn't about making it classy. Paper plates just had shitty structural integrity back then. The wicker was a part of the system so people weren't dumping food everywhere.
effitalll@reddit
and they were never quite clean. I think these things are the origin of my neurosis about kitchen things being extremely clean.
Loud-Chicken6046@reddit
More like when your paper plates are so thin you can almost see through them you got to bring these bad boys out.
KarensHandfulls@reddit
Did these die off because no one uses paper plates anymore? Did people just start using plastic and go full tilt boogie on environmental destruction? Or do we all use real plates because dish washers became more prevalent?
gerardkimblefarthing@reddit
Probably a combo, also the wicker became tacky and passe, and paper plate technology improved considerably.
SeaSkimmer2@reddit
Oh god. They used these at my paternal-grandmother’s lesbian house. The fanciest thing we ever ate there when we saw them once a year on Christmas was ham & cheese sandwiches, and they weren’t poor. Their remodeled kitchen for (~1990) was jet-black everything…appliances, cabinets.
Ham & cheese sandwiches on paper plates inside wicker trivets for Christmas with the lesbian grandmother & “roommate”.
gerardkimblefarthing@reddit
That last one's a brand new sentence.
16Shells@reddit
these were for eating on my grandparents patio, grandma would make little ham sandwiches in little buns with mustard and relish and sprouts. i miss that.
GarblingCumfarts@reddit
I loved these lol
I wish I still had them.
SnooStrawberries9563@reddit

What is dead may never die
brainvheart143@reddit
Hahaha same
We used these on nights we used the fancy corn on the cob holders
VioletVenable@reddit
I loved these! Always meant my dad was grilling and we were going to eat on the patio!
tytoalba331@reddit
Omg I forgot about these lol.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
Still use them
Ingonyama70@reddit
Oh my gods I forgot about these wicker frames but they used to be CRUCIAL to outdoor dinners.
Next-Honeydew4130@reddit
Actually I need some of these
jambr380@reddit
We had these and were a big time wicker house overall. We had so many baskets hanging from the beams in our kitchen ceiling. I am quite tall at 6'5", so by high school I was constantly knocking them down with my head
rangeghost@reddit
I had to pull like half an inch of wicker out of me last time a basket got me.
noonesaidityet@reddit
When those came out of the cupboard, it usually meant Dad was grilling and I was about to eat my bodyweight in macaroni salad.
sator-2D-rotas@reddit
I still remember the joy of getting to burn these when clearing out extra junk in the late 90s.
agentfantabulous@reddit
I can smell the Hamburger Helper and hear the Entertainment Tonight theme song playing in the background.
Expensive-Form2747@reddit
Oh my god, yes!
kalista08@reddit
My stepmother still has these, and I still hate them.
Ianthin1@reddit
My grandparents had those, but they were part of a set with some aluminum plates.
99anan99@reddit
Had these, but never used them at dinner. I always thought these were lids to some basket my grandparents had.
pls_send_caffeine@reddit
lol, i completely forgot these existed
thunderlips36@reddit
I always got the one with crusty dried ketchup on it
BougieDustBunny@reddit
Hahah. Them bitches are still in my cabinet now.
mjh8212@reddit
I still have these and use them. The thrift store had about 50 of them and I bought 10. Still have 6.
anOvenofWitches@reddit
Mmm crusty dried mustard stain from the 80s
echochilde@reddit
I still have a set of these. They’re shoved up into the top shelf of a cabinet. They’re probably so brittle at this point they’d disintegrate with the added weight of an empty Dixie plate.
pburydoughgirl@reddit
We used to have something else specifically for holding paper plates. I can’t remember what they looked like, but I remember they had tabs for holding the paper plates in place.
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
pburydoughgirl@reddit
Yeah! Something like that
rml24601@reddit
Omg we served our pizza on these 😳 instant flashback to having to pull these out of the cabinet above the washing machine.
The_OtherGuy_99@reddit
