That's sixty rounds of ammo, plus the magazine, all sitting in front of the grip. It's an interesting idea but I can not imagine how you could possibly hold that. It could be interesting as a 'narrow' drum magazine for a SMG.
The HK SMG had a drum mag similar to this designed for it. I'm not entirely clear on whether they made any. At least I haven't seen pictures that aren't concept art from HK.
I know that this is image depicts rotating bullets... but the way it's drawn makes it look like a spiral of seeds that grow into bullets just in time to be fired.
I came up with a similar, but inverted solution 10-12 years ago when I was a teen. I was trying to figure out a way to make the level 1 sentry from TF2 work! My idea being a layered conga line of cartridges that had a 90° rotation into the “action” of the sentry’s gun. I say came up with, I drew it with my limited knowledge and imagination of firearms. Once I have the ability to do so I will build my own working model!
That is not anyway similar to how the P90 rotates the rounds.
There is no moving parts in this design, nothing forcing the bullets to spin besides an opening they are "allowed" to spin. I would venture to say, this absolutely did not function reliably, if at all.
the p90 doesnt have moving parts either spinning the rounds, it is just like the picture but shorter. why would you say this doesnt work reliably (if the spring was working properly ofc.)
What are you talking about? The mag literally has a sping that forces the bullets up a ramp that is the cross section of the bullet, meaning it isn't some wide open cavity just "hoping" the spring turns around inside of it.
That center part in this posted design has no way to reach the top rounds, literally there is no way this worked unless the schematic is horribly inaccurate.
yes this is missing a follower to push rounds all the way up to the chamber, but adding one is doable. unfortunately i have not really grasped what you tried to explain with the open cavity, do you mean the way the rotating bullets are displayed?
Yes to your first point, no follower, no way last rounds are shooting.
Regarding the second part, yes this design does not show a ramp feed (like with the P90) it just shows it opening enough that the pullet has the ability to turn, but not forced to turn.
On a side note, Im not upset with you trying to defend it, I'm upset that I have been working on a design similar for like 6 months and this shit just does not work.
i mean, these drawings resurface here every so often and most of them are just insane, this one is no different, but i like to give the benefit of the doubt and "overlook" obvious flaws that could be corrected easily (in my gead at least)
How is your design working? is it rotating at a steep angle like in this variation (assuming it guides the bullets into position and isnt just some random opening) or a shallow one like the p99? what caliber and how many rounds are you planning? what type of weapon is it?
Its the follower that is the issue, on top of a couple other things. I only just got to the part that I am printing parts now, but I can not seem to make them reliably feed... actually I cant get them to feed nearly any of the time after the first round or two.
FN literally lubricates their rounds to bypass some of the feeding issues, and I think the reason they can get it to work is with how small the 5.7 is.
I want it with 308 (and evetually 300 wsm) I've tried just oiling them, but the mag spring design I am working with just won't feed on rotation. Everything clamps up, and I dont have the ability to have a custom spring designed. I mean I can buy custom springs (there's actually quite a bit of online options) but nothing to set that spring design into a cylindrical turn.
I need to make some slinky type feeder added to the last 3 or 4" of the spring... and I have quite honestly given up hope on it this as of this week.
Long story short... this post has a special place in my heart for making me mad lol
oh boy, 308 will probably be a challenge, but maybe you can figure something out.
you mind sending me a few pictures of that, im really interested in what you are making.

Put it behind the grip and you have an interesting pistol with a wide flat rear end that you could use in all sorts of ways, and much better balance

A bullpup if you will.

This is what the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen would have used as an ankle gun.

What’s the patent number for this? Curious to read more.

Seems like it could work, similar to the way the p90 rotates the cartridges.

If i get it working, I will be posting it to 3D2A for sure.
I just need the design somewhat working before I succumb to reddit hate lol.
Dyledion@reddit
Dude, stop fixating on the spinning thing. It's a twisted channel. The cutaway can't show that, but it's pretty obvious.
09gtcs@reddit
Looks like the slot on the left side of the winder would allow the winder to move up along the spiral and follow the rounds.
Triaxses@reddit
Yes for 2 rotations, and not the last half before the chambered round.
And again with no back plate or stopper, it would just shoot off as it made its way closer to the chamber (The last 4 or 5 bullets)
09gtcs@reddit
Maybe with a dummy round follower system similar to the KCI 100 rounders.
Triaxses@reddit
No I get that, its the follower that messes up, I cant get spring tension to follow the case through the turn.
WXHIII@reddit
I like it and I want it. Make it.

P90 the sideways
DrBadGuy1073@reddit
I guess I we shouldn't be suprised that somebody wanted to turn a drum sideways. Just like a Tec 9/22, a perpendicular drum isn't exactly ergonomic.
