Sports divisions

Segregate sports by classifications on ability and not sex/gender and make every sport co-ed.
For example: boxing is separated into body weight divisions. Feather weight > Heavy weight
Baseball, based on stat accumulations scored by total stats
Accumulated Score =
(OPS score × .25) +
(OBP score × .15) +
(SLG score × .15) +
(AVG score × .10) +
(HR score × .08) +
(RBI score × .08) +
(R score × .06) +
(BB score × .05) +
(K score × .04) +
(SB score × .02) +
(WAR score × .02)

Obviously there’s a difference between baseball and softball and this system would require people to learn the direct sport they want to compete in, but it opens up the sports world to everyone. Even if you’re a F Tier baseball player (like a city league/farm team) you can be male or female and compete in a division (F-SS) if you qualify based on accumulated stat scoring.
Makes it more interesting in my opinion and avoids conflicts with growing societal issue of trans athletes competing in gender segregated sports.
During the Olympics for instance A-SS athletes would most likely all be competing against each other and competitions would be like “time for the A Rank 100m dash” and not “time for the men’s 100m dash”. It would also allow men and women who are not genetically advantaged from dominating their respective male/female leagues thereby adding more value to the competition.

Women are allowed in the NBA and always have been. So far, no women have played in an NBA game, though a couple have been signed or drafted.
They separate competitors into skill divisions in the Special Olympics, but they’re also gender segregated.

This is indeed a crazy idea. This would completely exclude all women from top-level sports competition. Forever.
wtf_are_crepes@reddit (OP)
Look, if you can put the numbers up you belong in a higher tier. Plus, technically they already are separated by sex arbitrarily from top-level sports.
Caliph_ate@reddit
As soon as you consolidate the divisions, those numbers would disappear. Caitlin Clark is a top talent in the WNBA, but an NBA defender would completely shut her down. She would never get to play.
An athlete like Serena Williams could never exist under this idea. Instead of winning prestigious Grand Slam titles, she would be playing nobodies for no money and no recognition

I still don’t see how someone couldn’t just be a fan of a tier with more representation of women if that’s what they wanted.
Caliph_ate@reddit
Because I want every kid playing little league to be able to daydream about being a star. Being the best in the world. Destroying the sex-protected division would destroy that dream for every little girl in the world. I can’t get behind that
wtf_are_crepes@reddit (OP)
Wouldn’t desegregating the divisions actually be a platform for allowing a true grind for “best in the world” and not “best in women’s sports”
I understand, just playing devils advocate here
Caliph_ate@reddit
In theory, yes. In practice, there would be very very few actual opportunities for women to grind for that title. In the vast majority of sports, they would be several divisions behind the leading men. I can’t get behind any idea that sidelines an entire gender to that degree.

It’s crazy how many people on Reddit think that women are just men with long hair

Generally interested in this conceptually, but you'd definitely need to treat baseball and softball like different sports--softball is kind of like sprint baseball in a lot of ways, but I'd argue the skillsets and strategy are distinct enough to warrant separation under this premise.
(For reference, I played both through middle school, fastpitch softball in high school/adulthood, coached kids in both, and have a hobby interest in baseball/softball stats. I'd certainly not be the world's leading expert in the matter, but promise my take here is not out of disdain for softball!)
