We never get neat stuff …the Colt Mars mini assault rifle system!

Apparently the cartridge was based on the .221 spitfire and it was more effective than the 5.7X28 or the 4.?? The HK P7 and considered effective out to 300 yards
AMidgetinatrenchcoat@reddit
I think they got the pounds and kilograms measurements mixed up here
But honestly, very cool
pinguinlord@reddit
I doubt they're mixed up, seems unrealistically heavy at 13 pounds loaded 3.something kgs/6.something pounds loaded seems more realistic
AMidgetinatrenchcoat@reddit
Yeah Im starting to think they messed up the weight because according to this data it'd weigh like 30 pounds which seems absurd
Tobi_1989@reddit
I love the fact the 5.56 MARS had the same length as 5.56 MINSAS, but twice the muzzle energy, giving it the actual CQ penetration the original 1980s PDW requirements listed

I think from a design perspective its a masterclass on how this type project should be approached .
thatARMSguy@reddit
Centurion Arms is making a reproduction of this. No clue when it’ll be released but they have functional prototypes

RamTank@reddit
Where do you get ammo for one of these though?
thatARMSguy@reddit
I think they had dies for it
DJ_Necrophilia@reddit
It wouldn't be all that different from converting 556 brass to 300blk. Probably just an extra step to neck down further
GeneralBisV@reddit
They will also be making runs of the ammo as well iirc.
ZeroTwo3@reddit
Very much looking forward to this; it's scratches an itch that the CMMG 5.7 just doesn't.
_That_Guy_in_AZ_@reddit
It's been released, and sold out fast.
The_First_Curse_@reddit
So just another AR-15 variant...
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
There are a couple of important distinctions between this and a $350 PSA build especially when it comes to A. Innovative cartridge design 2. Pioneering new construction technology and very clever repurposing of existing elements 3. Unique tactical engagement doctrine that at least theoretically allow for better hit probability as well as effect on target while allowing for the higher round count because of the lighter weight everything at the most common and dangerous engagement ranges . Plus its like the opposite of the stupid new “battle rifle” adopted
AyeBraine@reddit
haha not really
thatbeersguy@reddit
some converted the weight wrong.
GoredonTheDestroyer@reddit
Remember, kids at home - Multiply by 2.2 for lbs, divide by 2.2 for kilograms.
100lbs = 45.45kg.
RevoTravo@reddit
lol it’s either 6.2 lbs or 30 FUCKING POUNDS! 🤣
Evanflow39@reddit
I wonder if its possible to make a 5.56x30mm "Backcountry" (Using the case alloy that Federal made for the 7mm Backcountry) and could it match the velocity and energy of standard 5.56x45mm?
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
Honestly the pistol based cartridge is nearly as intriguing (although my guess is that it will resemble a super hot .357 sig )
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
That is an interesting idea i like the cut of your jib sir 🫡
_That_Guy_in_AZ_@reddit
Who's this "we" here? I got mine when it was in stock.

Key-Investment-3864@reddit
Wow I expected it to be in a different but similar available caliber of some variety but no they went all the way. How difficult is it to make the ammo for it?
TheSlipperySnausage@reddit
I literally can’t find a single website selling it with a quick google
Not_an_alt_69_420@reddit
I'm going to take a guess and assume 99.99% of people who bought that gun aren't buying factory ammo for it
TheSlipperySnausage@reddit
True enough. If you had a method to cut down 5.56 to length and reshape it would be cheap to reload.
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
I think that the most straightforward process would involve trimming.211 fireball not exactly a band burner in terms of sales but I suppose there is a widely available parent case and a fairly simple way to get to the .221 fireball and perhaps a single operation from parent case to 5.56X30 🤷🏻♂️ the extent of my own experience and skill level ends at older straight-wall loads completed with the lee hand kits i am learning though
Not_an_alt_69_420@reddit
I've never done it personally, but that's a pretty standard practice when reloading for calibers you can't find the components for. I'm sure if you have $3k to drop on a gun, you have the money for whatever equipment you need to do it.
RacerXrated@reddit
Asking the real questions.
Sir-Claus@reddit
That's one heavy carbine, at least when you're into metric stuff😅
DrBadGuy1073@reddit
This in 22tcm gimme
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
I am sad the semi automatic carbine never popped up but i am currently awaiting the bolt action carbine 😬
DrBadGuy1073@reddit
The Armscor M22? They look cool, although I'd want to tinker with it and probably make a 9x19mm barrel for it instead of 22tcm(r) if it uses glock mags. I'm sure 22tcm(r) performs great out of a 16" barrel as is, but I'd want to see what full length 22tcm is capable of.
Cosbybow@reddit
Stl?
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
I am confused?
Revolutionary-Wash88@reddit
They want to 3d print it
BillWilberforce@reddit
Looks like somebody has got the metric and imperial weights the wrong way round.
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
It was alternately chambered in a proprietary bottleneck 9X30 round
justaheatattack@reddit
we have mini assault rifle at home.
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
.221 fireball i apologize!
Electronic_Camera251@reddit (OP)
