Prescription estrogen used to come in a drug compounded from pregnant horse urine (Premarin). Modern estrogen is synthetic, so it doesn’t come from horses anymore (and also doesn’t have the same side effects that the horse piss stuff did).
Hair loss is caused by Dihydrotestosterone. There's an enzyme that converts testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone, and the "baldness gene" basically affects the quantity of/how efficient the enzymes are. High testosterone doesn't necessarily mean baldness, but people who are genetically predisposed to baldness will be less bald if they have less testosterone. Side note, people with high dihydrotestosterone are at a higher risk of prostate cancer. So if you're bald, make sure you check yourself before you wreck yourself. Scientist pepe out.
It's actually proven, and even medical papers to inform patients on MtF HRT explain that it'll stop balding and may trigger hair regrowth. It's only sometimes though.
Of dubious veracity: While estrogen does generally improve hair growth and block further balding, it might not undo the damage to the hair follicles, not impossible though.
Anon probably caught it early, before her hair follicles got too far gone. The stress stemming from gender dysphoria getting lessened with HRT probably helped too, since stress can be a big factor in hair loss
This makes the most sense in context tbh. My barber told me as well that generally speaking that if you make it past like 32-34 without losing too much hair, that will be what your hairline will look like as male.
It'll obviously thin and stuff, but generally speaking that's, according to him, the critical period to get past as a male.

I remember someone telling me that people used to use female horse urine for hair growth because it contains estrogen

I mean... isn't it a byproduct of testosterone that triggers the gene for male pattern baldness?
So taking estrogen, and reducing the testosterone in your body, would naturally reduce or eliminate hair loss due to male pattern baldness, right?
Makes sense to me.
