Someone just hit my truck…

I was trying to sleep. She backed into the back of my trailer. Didn’t feel any harder than hitting a dock. She was freaking out. Said she’d only been driving for a month. I didn’t see any damage. Tested my lights, all seems good.
I asked her if she’d learned a lesson. She said yes. I told her this never happened.
Never forget what your first couple months over the road was like.

I did a tiny lovetap as a newbie and the guy came out wanting to yell I think but then he saw I was pregnant and the back of his trailer was actually quite a bit over the line (back to back facing spots) and when he saw that and no damage he was quiet lol.

Is that how your username came to be? 🤣

Got Reddit when I was in CDL school lol I thought I'd never learn to park.
Medic5050@reddit
And now, I bet you just up and park "like a boss"!

3 years later? They are married 5 years later? Divorced with 2 kids 9 years? Remarried 19 years later? In the same truck. Arguing at 70mph hailing 'taters
The life cycle of a truck driver
HashnaFennec@reddit (OP)
The two kids part might be kinda hard, seeing that we’re both women.
That said, I’d absolutely read a lesbian tragic love story about two truckers.
Luxorioo@reddit
Only if they live in Upstate NY and call their company "Finger Lakes Freight"....
Otherwise "Clam Hammer Logistics" works

Yeah I’ve been hit on the back a few times usually love taps enough to wake me up but basically just bouncing off the dock rubber. Same thing, no real damage I don’t give a shit. I don’t want to deal with calling my company either even when it’s not my fault.
Emotional-Editor3066@reddit
My first ever load I got a damn ticket, I wish the cop would’ve said “this never happened”. It one of those quick light that was timed for only a single car to roll through, and I happened to be in a truck-trailer driving extra slow and caution on the turn. 1 ticket messed up my driving reputation and increase my personal car insurance by 2 fold. I decided to quit trucking altogether since I won’t be able to get into ideal company.
timpa27@reddit
What have you fallen into since giving up the road?
Ayyeee_justin@reddit
Try again in the future when it falls off.

We were backing into a really difficult dock. Hubs was driving and I was directing him. I screamed STOPPPP. He didn’t. He rammed (hard) the corner of a trailer getting loaded in Laredo. The loader came running out and said “well as long as you didn’t hit the gladhands, we’re good!” We were lucky lol. We had just started working for this company. Trucking is definitely an adventure. When I was a newbie I backed into a sign and it pushed my mirror out. I was freaking out and my husband just laughed and pushed the mirror back into place.
Captain_Wag@reddit
First time someone hit me I was parked at a Flying J in Wyoming. I was parked for the day because of severe weather conditions. I was watching tv when the truck started shaking back and forth. I thought it was the wind pushing the truck around until I opened the blinds and saw a knight driver backing into me. The corner of his trailer was hitting my deer guard and when he felt resistance he just kept hammering down. I went to his truck and kindly asked him to get out and look at what he's doing. He freaked out and sped off and I went back to watching tv. Company truck for the win.
HashnaFennec@reddit (OP)
Sometimes I miss being in a company truck. Breakdowns are a lot more stressful when it’s your quarter million dollar truck that YOU have to pay to get fixed.
Captain_Wag@reddit
The part I would miss the most is running the truck for days on end while blasting the a/c until I can see my breath.

Lowkey a wholesome situation

I bumped the back of a trailer in my first couple of months otr, similar situation. I was fully expecting the guy to get out and request my info. He drove off 2 minutes later without saying a word lol.
FisherofLibs@reddit
A couple months in I was trying park in a 90* spot after a day of DC traffic and took about an inch of paint off a guys new 2024 Peterbilt. Guy laughed it off and said if I had a couple bucks he’d forget about it and tell the company someone must of hit him and drove off. There was no dent either so it’d be believable. There are some good guys out there.
Riiakess@reddit
Thank you for this. I was that girl back in 2012 who did this exact same thing in my first month, and thankfully the driver of the other truck took it the same way you did.
StonedTrucker@reddit
I had this happen to me during my first few months. I was in the trailer unloading and felt it move a bit. Looked outside and saw there was another truck that was trying to take a corner that was just a bit too tight and bumped me. He was freaking out but i said not to tell anyone because theres no damage. Nobody would know
ImmortanOwl@reddit
It's like when a guy hit my side mirror in CA, I just got out looked at it and popped it back into place, gave them the thumbs up and went back inside lol.

I know I get bumped all the time when I was in a truckstop parking lot and you’re backed up to the line and they (hopefully) just gently tap.
Lopsided-Move6309@reddit
At one company I worked for, our trailers were scratched and marked all over. A person hit it backing at a truck stop on the side, I looked, saw it didn't penetrate the wall and went back to sleep. Now, if it penetrated, I would've had to say something, but just another scratch in a million that I'm not sure is which, didn't matter.
G0DCyCL0nE@reddit
No harm, no foul. That's a good outlook, that a lot of people used to have, but now everyone is out to get you.
Desperate_Fee_808@reddit
Yes they are..trash
arrynyo@reddit
I worked at that place with the bright yellow trucks and when I say we did not gaf about those raggedy trailers...I heard they got new ones now so that's good lol
ApollyonFE@reddit
I don't even bother getting out of bed if it's a trailer to trailer hit anymore. Truck is mine, trailer isn't. It's almost always a superficial hit anyway
SycoJack@reddit
If it's one of those backing hits, it's literally no different than bumping a dock. There's even a name for it, the parking kiss or something like that. Used to be an expected part of the job.
Used to be people would just straight brush it off as being a normal everyday expected occurrence, even among veteran drivers.
Few-Chemical-5165@reddit
I had that happen about a dozen times in my career, and if there's no damage, there's no issues bumper to bumpers, not a big deal. I've hit docs harder than most of them hit me.

I had the opposite experience in that I had been only driving a month and someone hit my truck. I definitely felt it and it left a freaking hole in the truck. The worst part was, he hit my truck, tried to back in a few more times, and then gave up and went to another spot. I followed him to the next spot to show him the damage, and he didn't even really seem to care.
Metaltom1970@reddit
Not a problem, I woke up to being shoved out of my spot by a driver who was backing into my trailer, no idea why he didn’t feel the extra resistance
FightingFlaresandNF2@reddit
I had a driver at 2am decide to back down the road cause he passed his spot. I was blowing airhorn and flashing lights. He hits truck and the does it 3 more times. I was going in that driveway he passed as that was my yard. I get out and he refused to give me any information so I started taking pics. I told him that my truck had a camera in it and he gets out goes and looks at my truck and I point to the box in windshield and he’s like can we make a deal. I’m like nope. There was a building down 200ft on left with 3 open docks he could’ve backed in and turned around. Guess what I get a call 3 years later from a foreigner acting like they with an insurance company and wanted to talk about that incident. I hung up and called the company since I no longer worked there. Head of safety says it’s still open and they had to file suit. He then put their lawyer on the phone and dude was like if they call again to call his direct number immediately.
John9250@reddit
I did that once. I was still pretty new, swung around to pull through a spot and nicked the trailer to my right with the front corner of my trailer. Just a scuff on both, the guy got out, looked at it and said don’t worry about it. He was pretty cool about it. I also got backed into once but it was by one of our drivers at our yard so the company didn’t do shit About it lol
GenX_Leo@reddit
I bumped the back of someone's trailer a couple months ago, been driving for years, no one's perfect at anytime in your career. Checked the back, just the dock bumpers touched, went to talk with the other driver, told him sorry, theres no damage, your free to look, he said all good man, went about our day.
FightingFlaresandNF2@reddit
When I first started driving and had been on my own for 2 weeks I accidentally bumped a trailer pulling onto the parking spot in Nogales AZ. I started crying. This old man go out and looked at his trailer and nothing was wrong. He hugged me and told me it’s ok. He had been driving 60 years. Told me I should never pull through spots and it’s always easier to back in!
slyguy929229@reddit
Bump the back of the trailer and no damage? No you didn’t. However if it leaves a mark I have to report it because my manager is a salty cunt. They don’t care and won’t bother to pursue insurance for superficial damage, unless we do it. Then it’s the end of the world like we ran over a buss full of orphans. A guy damn near got fired for clipping a bollard and cracking his bumper. Also seen them throw a fit cause a guy dented his door when the wind grabbed it and slammed it into the wall (el paso in the windy summer)
bourbonpens@reddit
Yeah, I was parked for the night and a flatbed was trying to back in beside me. Hit my trailer, twice. Just good hard nudges, but when I opened my door to take a look he took off. No damage, but man…
Few_Jacket845@reddit
Good for you. No damage, no problems.
jHugley328@reddit
That would have been my deal. No damage. No problem. Oh no, you bumped my trailer which is acustomed to bumping a dock. No issue in my book. If they still feel bad about it, tell em they can buy you a sandwich or somthing simple.
SchityCityGangBang@reddit
A month ago, a guy took my hood off while I was sleeping and the truck stopped messed the mirror up crack the hood did a whole bunch of damage drove away with everyone honking and waving at him. Cops got him got charged with a felony hit-and-run. I kind of feel bad for the dude in a way but then also I don’t. It would’ve been a completely different story if they would’ve stopped, but they didn’t.
DanimalPlanet42@reddit
No reason to stress over a bump anyway
West_Masterpiece9423@reddit
Local beer guy here and 1st week out on my own, early aughts, and I got into 2 accidents cause I was trying too hard. Still trucking with a driver of the year award under my belt. My manager at the time stuck with me! I tell the new drivers, a lot can go wrong with delivery, but if you bring the truck home safe, you’re solid.
crooksFTW@reddit
Guy hit me at a pilot and drove off and I think messed up my AC. pretty sure I was hit again at a Loves while someone was back in. Mirror was folded in no damage though
Puzzled_Rip_3739@reddit
I parked at pilot for the night and went home and came back and my mirror was folded in. They couldve atleast folded it back😐
InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit
Nah they foul for that😂😂
TwoToadsKick@reddit
Some lady recently backed into me too whilst I was delivering. Shattered her tail light, that's it. No damage to my truck. She was balling her eyes out and shaking saying she can't afford the insurance rates going up and what not. Told her it was just her brake light and I won't say anything if she doesn't. Luckily, nothing ever came out of it. They usually tell us we have to report these things because they can lie and attempt to say we hit them. Either way, a year later all has been fine.
No-Worldliness-9052@reddit
Glad I’m not the only one who’s done this. If it’s a company truck and everything still works who really cares?
Desperate_Fee_808@reddit
Some dude hit my trailer after yelling at me and wanting me to turn left into oncoming traffic (I was in Charlotte, NC during rush hour might I add..not a fun place)..but anyway..he’s panicking and apologizing..I was like bruh..it’s not my trailer..idgaf lol..get back in your truck..we’re good..he’s thanking me over and over..moral to the story..the very person you think the least of at that moment could be the same person to save your job lol
IndexFingerTypist@reddit
A guy twice my age who only spoke Spanish, (b1 driver possibly) smacked my driver mirror an inch or two. We spoke and I decided it wasn't worth the effort to pursue anything. He was very apologetic, but mostly just tired.
