There is a way to come back. If the next comments responding to you point out the downvotes are bs because you were humble or admitted your error, people change their vote.Â
You can tell some comments people wait to see if other people are upvoting or downvoting it before they decide to dogpile on it with what they think everyone else is doing
Except that's entirely bullshit. Time and time again people will get upvoted once they admit they were mistaken. The downvoting usually only continues when people double down like assholes
Reddit jannies takes the fun out of the word fun and replaces it with shit and superiority complex. Dammit, I wanna call people r word, f word and tell them to kiss themselves without getting banned all the time.
I remember once stating the Spanish, while not innocent by any means, did not know that they were transmitting germs to the Native Americans early on during the colonization of the Americas. This was in response to a person claiming that the early Spanish knowingly engaged in "biological warfare." Someone responded to me by pointing out smallpox blankets--something done by another nation hundreds of years later--as a "gotcha." I got downvoted to oblivion for my original comment and for pointing out their error, while the other person got upvoted into oblivion. I still maintain that I was 100% right and the other person was 100% wrong. Fuck this site sometimes lol
They werenât morons, they didnât have germ theory but they knew how disease worked:
Las Casas, Historia de las Indias: He was on Hispaniola during the 1518â1519 smallpox outbreak. âIn December 1518 or January 1519 a disease identified as smallpox appeared among the Indians of Santo Domingo, brought, said Las Casas, from Castile. It touched few Spaniards, and none of them died, but it devastated the Indians.â
Read that sentence carefully. Las Casas, an eyewitness, in 1518, recorded three things: the disease came from Spain, the Spanish were largely unaffected, the Indigenous population was devastated.
On biological warfare, the Incan empire was destroyed and thrown into civil war by smallpox in 1528, and pizzaro showed up in 1532 to mop up the ruins. He didnât cause the outbreak but he understood what was happening just fine and took advantage of it. He probably wouldnât have been able to win without the diseases and he knew it
The one that has the most downvotes already (or the least upvotes). It's not the individual who decides who gets the downvoted, it's for the hivemind to decide.
Oh yeah, I definitely agree that the Spanish had eyes and were able to observe that disease disproportionately affected the natives, but that's a far cry from intentional biological warfare like the original commenter I was talking about was referring to. They weren't aware of precisely how germs spread or why the natives got sick and they didn't. Again, I don't want to defend them because they did horrific shit in the Americas, but I don't think they intentionally spread disease, at least not on a wide scale. Maybe they would have if they understood the mechanisms, so I don't know if that makes it better :/ (although I think they valued the natives more as cheap/free labor)
They specifically understood that they were spreading disease to the natives. Note the earlier bit, âfrom Castileâ. It doesnât matter if they thought it was tiny animals spreading the disease (germs) or tiny contagious inanimate particles (an actual premodern theory of disease), the Spanish knew their being their was causing it. The fact the didnât leave but went further inland makes the claim they intentionally spread it true in the weak sense if not the strong, and they factually did take advantage of it to for example conquer the inca
Every comment section is a massive echo chamber anyway. You can comment the exact same thing in two different comment section and it will be praised to heaven in one and downvoted into oblivion in the other.
I remember reading about a recent study into why people knowingly support or share incorrect information on the internet and the findings basically came down to people prioritising the symbolic importance of an argument over its factual accuracy.
If you ask for advice on Reddit youâre pretty much shooting yourself in the foot anyway. The âadviceâ given on this site is absolutely bat shit insane.

"The free karma sub" might get you a few hundred karma at best.
The accounts advertising companies are most interested in are >10 year old accounts with hundreds of k's or even millions of karma. An account like that will get you a couple of 1000 $.
Redditors doesn't use any logic when it comes to upvotes/downvotes. It's more about the vibes and tone.
One may say "2+2 can be 4, 5, 100 it doesn't matter as long as you're happy UwU" it's fucking stupid but it has good vibes, hence upvotes
The other might respond "What a load of bullshit. 2+2 can't be anything else than 4" and even though he's 100% correct. his vibes are negative, hence downvotes.
Ina lotr subreddit people said those who hadn't read the book don't understand the value of frodo. I said I haven't read it still respect frodo got Downvoted anyway. Mf I'm on ur side.
I read somewhere a long time ago that the Upvotes and Downvotes are mostly algo. So that a Downvoted comment gets Downvoted much more and your reply in the same thread is deemed as dogshit because people usually double down so it gets also Downvoted.Â
That's because redditors are not interested in being right, they are interested in being righteous, and they will use that down vote button to make sure you know about that.
Eh. I don't care that much about individual comments, as long as karma slowly accumulates as a total.
Makes for a nice pretty thing, that rating. Kinda like collecting different 2⏠coins
