JedAndWhite@reddit
Nope. Because I'm so far on the anti authoritarian left that people think I'm joking half the time.
Replying to a "stop the boats" kind of person by questioning the notion of borders themselves is really fun.
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
I'm a stop the boats person. go ahead. question me
JedAndWhite@reddit
Cool. What use are borders?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
To protect those who live within them. We have borders for the same reason you wouldn't let any random stranger into your house.
JedAndWhite@reddit
Really? It cages in it's people to "protect" them?
How does an imaginary line on a map do that?
And a country isn't a house.
Who decides where the border is drawn?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
Cages? If it was a cage no one could be let in or out. With borders, you can travel across as you wish, but it is the the people living within the borders who can regulate it I.e. making sure to only allow people who have the places best interests at heart to enter. "Who decides where the border is drawn?" I'm gonna assume you're just ragebaiting rather than you're actually uneducated, but yeah learn history. I never said a country is a house. don't straw man me. I said we have borders the same reason you wouldn't let any random stranger into your house.
JedAndWhite@reddit
So people can travel in and out only when they're allowed to.....
How about money? Does money pay attention to invisible lines?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
The people who live within the place. For example, in my house, I would decide not to let a stranger in because I live there and I cannot confirm if the stranger has the best interests of me or my house at heart. Insane I need to spell this out for you.
As for money, yeah it kinda does. Most countries have their own currency. Cross the border from China to Russia, suddenly your Chinese money (yuan) is useless.
Not sure what point you were trying to make haha, but I think all your questions have been clarified. Borders are important, and necessary.
JedAndWhite@reddit
So you can't change currencies?
Who lives within a border. How do you decide that?
Should, for example, the Kurds have a separate country of Kurdistan?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
you can. I don't know why you keep asking these kind of questions as if to imply that I suggested you can't. I said that u cannot use Chinese yuan in Russia which is a fact. You can convert it to rubles, and maybe you should ask yourself why? (because of the "imaginary lines" you've been talking about)
learn history. it gives you all the answers of who has decided how borders were formed.
you know what you're doing with this phrasing. in theory, yes, because they are ethnically different to the turks. however, in a practical sense it would be pretty much impossible for them to have their own state, as sad as that is.
as I said before, I've answered all your questions, get to the point.
JedAndWhite@reddit
Cool. So with exchange rates, is it cool if a country with a strong currency buys up all the resources of another at a knockdown rate and uses them to make itself richer? Is that ethical?
Should a country with its own border control access to its own resources? Like, for example, Mossadeq in Iran.
I know who forms borders. I love a bit of history. I just happen to think they're an awful thing. Partition went well, didn't it?
If different types of people are spread all over an area, intermingling, how do borders make sense there?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
You have a very childish outlook on life. Borders are not necessarily reflective of cultural divisions, as you seem to think. Rather, as per modern standards, they are boundaries of legal jurisdiction. I can tell that you are not open to having your viewpoint change, so let's do a hypothetical. Let's say, in your perfect world, there are no borders on Earth. Who would be in charge? Would everyone be subject to the same law? Would law enforcement in, say Asia, be responsible for crimes occurring in South America? Would ALL areas of the world prosper? I.e. without any borders, people will migrate towards high-paying areas. Suddenly, that high-paying area becomes incredibly population-dense and overwhelm the local utilities and housing. I understand your idea, and if it were a perfect world where we can all skip about and see the world as all sunshine and rainbows, then sure, maybe we could consider having no borders. I think you do need to adopt a more pragmatic mindset though pal. It just wouldn't work.
JedAndWhite@reddit
Would there be high paying areas if wealth couldn't concentrate within a border?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
Silence? how funny considering your original claim was you can break "stop the boat" people down by questioning borders and you yourself have broken down because your line of questioning has been refuted.
haha.
JedAndWhite@reddit
Not refuted. Just really busy at work. 👍
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
A. you don't work. based on your previous comments, I can tell you are a child. if you aren't then christ help us all. B. still not addressed the points
if you are unable to respond and rendered speechless in an argument that you initiated and claimed you can break people down😂😂, you have lost the argument. good day.
I doubt you will respond because even though you may not admit it outright, you have conceded the argument and deep down you have accepted that borders are important and necessary.
JedAndWhite@reddit
Where did I claim I could break people down? Christ.
You've done what your lot always do and resorted to attacking the person not the subject.
The only reason borders exist is to protect the capital of the rich, and to be used as economic levers to strip other areas of their resources. To quote the German Jewish Labour Bund "Every time a group draws a border to create a homeland, there's always a minority that ends up with the boot on its face"
We'd all be better off without borders, as Capitalism in its current form would be destroyed. Commerce and trade would still happen, because they're not the same thing.
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
There absolutely would be high-paying areas. What a stupid question. Even WITHIN a country there are high paying areas and low paying areas.
I'm not too familiar with Rojava, so maybe you can enlighten me further, but the way I understand it, they allow local councils to govern specific areas, however one local council's jurisdiction doesn't cross into another, almost as if there's some "imaginary lines" between the areas. Shock.
I also notice you never respond to my points you just ask loaded questions and ignore my answer. Not really conducive to an argument in good faith.
Unique_Payment_3473@reddit (OP)
Do you have bpd?
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
I won't ever lie about my views. However, it is a fact that people on the left can't handle interactions with people on the right, regardless of whether they are talking about politics or not. Whereas, in my view, people on the right are far more willing to put political differences aside and judge people on their character. Because of this, it does tend to be that left wing people tend to congregate together and form massive echo chambers (case in point: reddit), whereas right wingers are (generally speaking) more likely to assess all sides of the situation and allow their viewpoint to change. This doesn't make right wingers weak-minded. Rather, it makes them more progressive and more intellectual individuals.
Cautious-Fox9757@reddit
This is just rubbish and if you’re older than 14 you should be ashamed.
Key_Cheesecake_7832@reddit
did u just turn 15 or something ahahaha
Unique_Payment_3473@reddit (OP)
This is one of the main reasons I asked this question. Some people, usually on the left side of politics, seem to have this unhealthy black and white thought process. They can’t seem to comprehend that a right wing person isn’t necessarily a bad person.
SoggyWotsits@reddit
I’m not really sure what you mean, I’m guessing you mean change or adapt? I find the best approach is to avoid politics all together, depending on who I’m talking of course.
If it’s a relative stranger trying to push their political views on me, I’ll acknowledge what they’ve said but I won’t give them my opinion. If it’s a political conversation, I won’t necessarily tell them who I’d vote for, but I might tell them what I look for in a party. Their conclusion is up to them.
Rico1983@reddit
Why on earth would you do that?
Odd_Gap_9491@reddit
My political views are deeply held and spoken at volume to whomever pushes that button.
Helpful-Brother-5561@reddit
Absolutely not, no.
TrifectaOfSquish@reddit
If you do that you probably don't actually have any views
Final_Anybody_3862@reddit
I prefer to animate them.
ginginsdagamer@reddit
nope. I'm not a child. none of me or my friends give a fuck off eachothers political views. we are friends who hang out lol.
Nicktrains22@reddit
Only with mates who I know won't confuse them with my actual views
DaveTheWraith@reddit
If I'm asked outright I'll answer, \~
otherwise I don't generally talk about it (unless with family)
elbapo@reddit
Nah I just dont speak to people
seven-cents@reddit
I simply don't talk about politics with people I don't know
ben_jamin_h@reddit
Anyone that understands the term 'larp' probably wouldn't
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Not in the fucking slightest but values like that mean alot to me
evelynsmee@reddit
I have no idea what you could possibly mean.
Do I lie and pretend to support or dislike people that I don't? No, obviously. I'm not a liar.
Unique_Payment_3473@reddit (OP)
Well then you do know what I mean
evelynsmee@reddit
Larping has a point.
Spirited_Ad_2697@reddit
No but i wont engage in political discussion with anyone but family and friends so if I’m in public and someone starts talking about politics i just politely nod and don’t agree or disagree with them, just let them complain about whatever they are wanting to talk about.
Short-Shopping3197@reddit
I don’t talk about my political views at all unless I’m with a close friend who already knows what they are. If someone I don’t know that well starts a conversation about their own views I just say ‘that’s nice’ and change the topic to a more interesting one, and if they press or ask directly I just tell them “I find politics a little dull” and find something else to chat about.
NegotiationLost332@reddit
If I'm taking to someone who I have common ground with, I'll talk politics enough so they know I agree with them. If an intelligent person holds a political view I disagree with, I'm happy to have a discussion with them about where we disagree and why.
If somebody holds a political opinion I find to be completely idiotic, but I otherwise like them, I'll just change the subject. If I don't otherwise like them, I won't bother taking to them.
brynnafidska@reddit
No but.
If my safety is at risk then I'll say or do what I need to get out of that situation. If that includes giving platitudes to something I don't agree with, then yes.
At work until I know the group of people I'm talking with well enough you're not going to get my full self-expression.
Outside of those cases, the depth to which I discuss politics is dependent on my assessment of how well the other people would respond to disagreement and questioning. If I don't think they can handle that I'm not gonna waste my time or energy and I'd look to steer the conversation to new topics.
CreativeAdeptness477@reddit
If I understand your meaning, no because I don't discuss politics with people at all.
CrazyPlantLady01@reddit
No but I might change the subject or politely exit the room if someone has views I find problematice, and it's not appropriate to challenge or debate them. For example, sometimes my friends parents kindly let me stay in their holiday home (for free) and invite us round for a meal whilst we are there, which we gratefully accept. They are nice and generous people doing us a favour. However their political views are the opposite of mine and I know my friend has spent many hours already arguing and debating with them. They aren't going to change. And I'm not going to be rude and challenge their views in their home. I smile and change topic, neither agreeing or disagreeing.
machine1804@reddit
Depends on a few things, whos the person im speaking to, do I like/dislike them? Are they thick/smart? Do they make ridiculous comments that make me want to annoy them? What particular mood im in that day? Lots of factors, plus I live in Northern Ireland so its dead easy to stir the political shite pot here wherever you go 👍
weedywet@reddit
No. I’m not a child.
prustage@reddit
Nope. Talk to me abut politics and you will get exactly what I think. No compromises, no role-playing.
SpiderLight97@reddit
No. I either refuse to talk about politics entirely (in professional settings or with my mum) or will very happily express my views. Contrary to what Donnie and co would have you believe, we are not cowering in fear here.
Mumique@reddit
No...but unless it's heinous I try to find some common ground. And even if it's heinous, common ground first makes the polite refusal of the heinous go down better.
Which_Specific9891@reddit
I don't understand what 'larp' means in this context, but I assume you're asking do I change my views depending on with whom I'm speaking to.
No. Absolutely not. I believe what I believe, and that's it. I'm not going to pretend to believe other things if I'm around other people.
