Toyota shopping

Wife and I are in the market for a new Yoda.
Does anyone have a salesperson at a dealership that they liked, that wasn't annoying?
Heard good things about Prosper, but doesn't mean everyone that works there is good.
locodfw@reddit
Toyota Dallas and Richardson are scammy clowns.
Current_Analysis_104@reddit
Richardson is the worst. Toyota of Plano is pretty great!
exwijw@reddit
Hmm. Just had a great experience not 3 hours ago with Richadson’s parts department to order a toe lateral link for my son’s Scion before his trip to his mother’s this weekend.
Gave him the part number. He verified it was compatible with my son’s Scion. Texted pictures to verify the part. Said he could get it by 9am tomorrow. Sent a link to pay.
Overall a very good interaction. Very helpful. Very friendly. Went the extra step of not just writing an order for the part number but verifying compatibility and sending pics. Easy to pay. Only problem will be if I go there tomorrow and it’s not there.
So far so good. But that’s a parts order. Idk about sales.
Calm_City_6229@reddit
They charge you the 3% on credit card fess at TofR , unbelievable!
exwijw@reddit
I’ve worked with integrating with credit card companies. The card processing companies are the ones to blame. They are going to charge percentages.
The funny part is most places just increase the cost to cover the card processing fee. Theres no separate card fee that you can avoid. So even if you pay cash, you’re paying that wrapped in card processing fee for a card you never used.
This sounds better giving you the option. You can pay cash.
Current_Analysis_104@reddit
Well, it’s been a few years since I west there for anything. Maybe they’ve changed!
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
Ironically, I had a bad service experience at Richardson once, and lit them up enough in the survey that the GM who is in all of their commercials called me directly. Told me to save his phone number and that I had a "friend in the car business." I saved it but haven't used it. And frankly, if I find the right salesperson, I don't want to undercut them by just calling this guy and having him beat it by $100.
mijo_sq@reddit
Service manager was pretty decent, I don’t like their assistant service manager. He assisted me once with my truck and the service was so bad I never want to go back there strictly because of him.
I work in retail management and very patient with issues. This was not that time I was patient.
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
The ASM was precisely why I lit them up in the survey.
DepthAggravating3293@reddit
Service managers no matter the make are all sales people and generally know nothing about the cars they "service". They sell services, "oh it is x mils and you need to service gizmo". I hate talking to them and ask to talk tot mechanics.
That being said, maybe the goal should not be to find a good sales person, but find a good framework that gets you the price and car you want in a reasonable time. 1. Know the demand of the car you want 2. research rates, outside and secure a line of credit incase 3. don't be inflexible and set you walk aways (price/time/etc)
I feel my time is worth money, so I don't get them a means to "trap" me there, and in the same token I tell them there is a time limit or I start taking more off when they play the "ask the manager" game or pull out the paper four squares on on negotiations. Good luck!
JacksonDWalter@reddit
For real. During Covid era a base Corolla LE was over $30k because they wanted MSRP + $5,000 in mandatory dealership add-ons + $5,000 in market adjustment (lowest they were willing to go was $3,000 in market adjustment after negotiating). That’s at least $8,000 in markups. The salesman I talked to said these will still sell regardless and they were right since they were flying off the lot so they didn’t have any incentives to lower prices at the time. That experience was so off putting that I refuse to go back and went out of my way to get my Grand Highlander all the way up at Longo Toyota instead years later.
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
Came here to say Toyota of Dallas is a joke. Especially if you have good income, good credit, and aren't mentally disabled.
4chanquads@reddit
Yep both are filled with coke huffing salesman, used to be friends with someone who worked in sales at both
Frosty_Corgi_3440@reddit
Accurate. I know for a fact one of the guys at the Dallas location's a coke dealer.
As for good locations, Longo Toyota of Prosper is the Toyota dealership to go to.
soju_shower@reddit
Yeah can't tell you where to go but def stay away from these two
cocoteddylee@reddit
Learned the hard way. Do not go there
bitshifter52@reddit
Costco has an auto sales program. It might be worth checking out.
bitshifter52@reddit
Not Toyota, if you are looking for used stay away from the Tomes dealerships in Mckinney. They are the poster-child for what gives car dealerships a bad reputation.
Top-Rule170@reddit
I know an employee of Toyota Plano. They told me I should’ve gone to Prosper to purchase my vehicle.
idontcareoline@reddit
Agree. Avoid Toyota of Plano. They charged my husband a $500 refundable deposit for a vehicle we purchased and we still haven’t gotten it back. The sales guy has been so dodgy when asked about it.
DrRickStudwell@reddit
You sure they didn’t take it off the price during purchase?
If they straight up robbed you then small claims is your next bet or file a chargeback with your bank.
idontcareoline@reddit
Good suggestion but unfortunately it wasn’t applied to the cost of the vehicle.
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
Going down a bit of a rabbit hole, but I would've gone to the county small claims court about that yesterday. As soon as the constable walks into serve them, you'll be getting a phone call to settle. And when that happens, don't take a dollar less than the $500 + all the filing fees you had to pay to take it to that level.
idontcareoline@reddit
Thank you!
JacksonDWalter@reddit
Longo Toyota is the only Toyota somewhat in the DFW area that I found that doesn’t do insane markups (outside of the new RAV4s currently). I got my Grand Highlander there and couldn’t be happier. It was worth the trip all the way up to Prosper.
KarmaLeon_8787@reddit
Glenn Coy at Toyota of Rockwall. He isn't pushy, is respectful, and answers questions without arrogance. I think he used to work at Sewell at one point in his career so his sales technique is a little more refined.
spikelike@reddit
I've gone to Pat Lobb a few times. Duane May has been there for years, I'd send anyone to him. Nice papaw vibes.
Patient_Ant_3808@reddit
I actually bought mine through autonation toyota south austin, everything over the phone and email, and they drove it to me in dallas, picked up my trade and drove it back to austin. $3500 cheaper than anywhere in dallas would do, and good price for my trade in. Talked to multiple people, started at the online sales team.
neatgeek83@reddit
I just bought a new Camry at Toyota of denton.
I started with the Costco program which gave me a baseline. Then I got all of the other dealers to complete against that.
Burleson actually had the best deal vutt I didn’t want to drive to burleson.
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
Well, we might be cut from different cloths. I've flown to New Hampshire for my last two new car purchases. I don't mind the road trip to save $5k. (Maybe the gap wasn't that wide for you.)
neatgeek83@reddit
It was less than $1k.
Lopsided_Loquat_9153@reddit
Is this Costco program just for new cars?
shaun3000@reddit
Not a particular salesman but I and many others have had a great experience with Family Toyota. They have two locations, Arlington and Burleson.
Longo in Prosper is OK, too.
lost_in_trepidation@reddit
I bought my Toyota Camry (2022) from Family Toyota Arlington. They were good. Not too pushy.
YantisGuy@reddit
I came here to recommend them too. I dealt with both, and both sales people were willing to work with me on the price. In the end, I got the Crown Signia from Burleson ($45,000 otd) My wife found a Camry in Arlington, for the price we can afford, but they didn't have it in white. Dealt with Toyota of Plano first, and they weren't moving on the MSRP, and McKinney and Prosper were no help either.
gordo952@reddit
Richardson Toyota is the worst. I had a service manager cuss me out since I didn’t want to do an oil change with them. I did a test drive at Pat Lobb in McKinney and it was pretty good!
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
You are the third person in this thread who hates that service manager lol. I guarantee we are all talking about the same guy. Crazy that he still has a job if he's so universally hated.
sapphirekangaroo@reddit
I ended up heading out to Toyota of Abilene to get the vehicle I wanted and I had a great experience. I also enjoyed working with Prosper, but they didn’t get enough inventory for the trim/color I was looking for (Highlander hybrid).
Toyota of Plano was fine, Toyota of Dallas was awful, and Rockwell had an awful contract (at least two years ago).
Admirable-Spite-1831@reddit

Tturaider28@reddit
If you’re a Costco member start with their auto program to get a starting price. Keep going to dealers till they won’t go lower in price.
JacksonDWalter@reddit
Costco has the best deals with their auto program. My director recently got a BMW 750e xDrive using that program after seeing the display one at the Costco Business Center near Park ln and Greenville. It literally saved him tens of thousands of dollars. It’s an excellent program well worth the price of a Costco membership if the car you want/dealership is part of it

Toyota of Plano was awful for me. Avoid Ethan

i bought a tacoma today with Mckinney Toyota and it was GREAT! look for Mr Harrison,he is amazing!
Actual_Mission_8044@reddit
I had to go outside the city for my car. It’s a Honda but I’m assuming Toyota applies here. I went to weatherford Honda for mine and was not scammed. Agreed on an out the door price for a new car over the phone and came in, checked out the car, paid, and drove home.
D_G_C_22@reddit
Shop online and get pre approved online before going anywhere. Negotiate the price as if you were paying cash. Go end of month or start of the week
PomeloPepper@reddit
I had a great experience at Toyota of Denton. I bought in 2023 and they threw in 2 years of free oil changes and a set of floor mats. Free loaner car the one time they had to keep my highlander for recall work.
uItraseven@reddit
Back in 22, i was shopping for a SUV, and was asking the same question. Eventually went with a CX-5.
While I don't have first hand experience, but I heard from several coworkers that Longo Toyota at Prosper is perhaps the best Toyota dealer around the north TX area. And like many others here, I was told Toyota Richardson are basically the scummiest sub human sh-t bag you'll ever meet lol
isitallfromchina@reddit
do your shopping online and get the price you want to pay for the car you want to buy. Bypass the sales pitch, finance pitch and all that 8 hour pain to get out the door. Depending on the vehicle, you should be able to get most of the paperwork done over their website.
Longo Toyota is the place to go, they've been in business for a very very long time and customer service is their trademark.
Finance your car over the web if possible

Did have good experience with Longo in Prosper. Their finance dept is little bit annoying. But the sales guy was good

Just bought new Corolla from Toyota of Plano last week from Bo Hook. Extremely professional and down to earth.
atomicode@reddit
I bought my 2017 Tacoma at Longo in Prosper. Good experience, and solid service department. Worked with David Maldonado - easy transaction.
MutedTechnology8644@reddit
I bought my 4Runner at Pat Lobb in McKinney. I thought the sales guy was pretty laid-back and low pressure. Steven Meece. Nice guy.
girafferiffraff@reddit
Kamala at Pat Lobb was great. We just bought from him last weekend. He was a straight shooter and very down to earth. It was very easy to work with hin.
MutedTechnology8644@reddit
We’ve bought 2 cars there. As far as dealers go they’re not bad.
gh120709@reddit
Please I beg you DO NOT buy a brand new car period. It is a horrible financial decision. I am speaking from experience. Buy used. If you must buy new put enough down so you aren’t underwater on your loan. Wish someone told me this sooner.
Sufficient_Emu_8287@reddit
Research the car you want before going to the dealer.
Build it out on the website and get the MSRP.
Go to the dealer and look for the exact car you want or order it.
Don’t add any additional insurance or service packages. If they can’t take remove the from the sale, leave.

Toyo of Rich fucking crooks and scammers
Tacked on extra couple thousand on the Highlander we purchased from them back in 2003. Had to go fight with them to get my money back.
Avoid like the black plague
Fuck you Toyo of Rich

Following this as I'm looking to buy a new vehicle for my family. Currently a full-time grad student and have the money to pay for a new car.
So far, it seems the dealerships in Prosper, McKinney and Plano are good places to visit as O want to do a test drive.

I asked to test drive a rav 4 at Toyota of Richardson and was told they didn't have any to even test drive. Just a heads up if that's what you're looking for.
Matchboxx@reddit (OP)
Sienna or GH, but demand seems to be a problem on those, too.
3Time4Eater3@reddit
Craigslist. Buy an older Yota without any turbo on it. They're bad for motors.
