22/50 it’s shaped like a V stop misidentifying it… Vermont unrelenting positivity.

This is our newest unrelenting positivity post.
The state in question is the great state of Vermont.
To all our foreign friends give a shout ask questions send praise. To our Americans do the same.
Ask questions, share stories, make jokes. Just remember not to be a jerk.
Recall the famous phrase my grandma invented “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything that isn’t redemptively funny.”
Stay tuned for 23/50 after this one.
The states are in random order based on my whim at the moment. My whim this time was knocking out a small state that doesn’t easily fit the number in on the map.

Thank you so much for blessing the rest of us with Bernie Sanders
JellyfishFit3871@reddit
Serious curiosity: how are you choosing each place? It's not alphabetical, it's not geographic. Are you just throwing a dart at the map to choose each place?
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
I mean I put it in the description.
Darts would be fine but the map’s on my fridge so I don’t need 50+ holes in the fridge. I also don’t have a set of darts.
I’m not Ted Lasso.
JellyfishFit3871@reddit
That's cool.
Seriously.
But I'm not especially engaged, and I don't have enough skin in the game to figure out why I'm supposed to be. It's cool.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Fair. It’s a random project by one unhinged mod so it’s not for everyone I guess. There’s a lot of states left so if one engages you then so be it. If it doesn’t engage you then there’s all the rest of the regular questions.
JellyfishFit3871@reddit
Seriously, it wasn't a criticism. I am actually reading the responses, just trying to figure out how the order is established. Sincerely sorry to have seemed abrasive!
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
No worries. Sorry if my response was abrasive. There is no order.

The way I remember which one is Vermont and which one is New Hampshire, is that New Hampshire has a beach on the ocean. Just one.
I’ve only been in Vermont once, but I crossed through New Hampshire every time I went to Maine from Boston.
PacSan300@reddit
One of my teachers in school told me it is the one that is shaped like “V for Vermont”.
Cerulean_IsFancyBlue@reddit
Yeah, that’s pretty much what OP said. If you have the map in front of you that helps. You can see the shapes.
If you’re trying to visualize the map in your head, you also have to remember which one is on the left and which one is on the right.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Well NH has a few beaches but they’re crammed in like 20 miles of coast.
epicenter69@reddit
I’ve never been, but can honestly say that I’ve never heard anything negative about Vermont.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
This is an unrelenting positivity post so the worst I can say is that it really is too beautiful to be real
MrLongWalk@reddit
I built the life I wanted here
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
And that’s the highest praise
DrWooolyNipples@reddit
Sugar bush and Jay peak are some of my favorite places in the country. Don’t take what y’all have for granted
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Jay I think gets the most snow on the east coast apart from Mt. Washington which doesn’t have “official” skiing.
DrWooolyNipples@reddit
The snow and array of hot tubs are legit
VitruvianDude@reddit
Whenever I see a Vermont license plate on a car, I'm appreciative that at least one state chooses to stay old-fashioned, and not turn it into some sort of billboard or money grab.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
I do appreciate it but my state’s money grabs at least go to some good causes
mrgraff@reddit
The Vermonter Sandwich is turkey and apple slices, and it tastes great.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
No cheddar?! What are those green staters even doing?
mrgraff@reddit
I had to go look at my pics from my trip last year. I forgot about the cheddar and onions!
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Whew glad that all is right with the world

Vermont is why in the rest of the country’s maple syrup is actually 100% syrup. Vermont has laws that state you can only sell something as maple syrup if it’s 100%, while the FDA only requires 60%.
We’re too big of a market for companies to not sell in, but too small of a market for specific packaging, hence brands selling “pancake syrup”, “golden syrup”, and any other “it’s close to maple syrup” name you can think of.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
I get all my syrup from Maine and it’s a father and son duo that inherited the farm from grandpa. My kids school has a sugar shack too. They basically get the parents to use their kids as slave labor to raise money selling syrup to fund school programs.

A little known gem we recently found in Vermont is Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln. Among other things, I learned that after he got out of politics, he became general counsel and later president of the Pullman Company (with all the racism that entailed).
Vermont is also known for numerous swimming holes for skinny dipping.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
I had an ancestor that was a Pullman porter. He was a white guy which was apparently non-standard.
ITrCool@reddit
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
You failed to mention the syrup.
I went to the BJ factory when I first went to VT and I was disappointed I only got ice cream.
We_R_the_Penguins@reddit
I see what you did there…
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Surely I have no idea what you mean
We_R_the_Penguins@reddit
I do, and don’t call me surely.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
But what about all these hooters and beavers?
Test4Echooo@reddit
They’re our very best to put forward against the high quality Canadian stuff.
myfourmoons@reddit
Amazing maple syrup and ice cream!!!
Genius-Imbecile@reddit
Vermont gave us Ben & Jerry's. Makes it one of the bestest states to me. Americone Dreams being one of my favorite on a hot day.
GeneralOrgana1@reddit
The factory tour is super fun, too!

Huh, wholesome as heck. I am waaaay shy of 251. I’d actually have to sit down and do some thinking to get my number but it can’t be more than a couple dozen if you even count just passing through.
DropTopEWop@reddit
Love Vermont. If had to live in the NE, it would be Vermont or Maine.
Shiny_Mew76@reddit
The weather is awesome

Maple Creemees

I love the banter and competition between the northern New England states but when it comes to creemees you guys kind of win.

I spent my formative years in Montpelier. State capital! Population? 8,000
It’s a truly wonderful place.
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
My VT friend said I should pay attention because we were going through the capital. He was not wrong. I almost missed it.
the_vole@reddit
There ain’t much to it! But the capital building is gorgeous and the city really has a great community. I like to imagine a world where it’s feasible to go back there.
Arleare13@reddit
One of the best beer states in the country.
cheezburgerwalrus@reddit
Also cheese

And butter
nowhereman136@reddit
Vermont has 56 breweries, which is more per capita than any other state
beenoc@reddit
Canada, particularly Quebec, likes to say they're the home of maple syrup - and it's true, Quebec produces 6x as much as Vermont. But it does so with 14x the population! If you look at maple syrup gallons per capita (which I think is the true measure of how devoted a population is to that delicious nectar), Vermont wins easily - like 4.5 gallons per person, per year!
It's me, I'm that person, please give me four and a half gallons of maple syrup every year.

Some of the best small towns. The Green Mountains are wonderful.
