The more and more I learn about AK’s, the more and more I see sales I need to participate in. Is this a sign?
AtomicPhantomBlack@reddit
It's a cool kit, but as a shooter it's garbage for the price.
If you want a cheap kit, build a Cetme C. $125 for the kit, $80 for the flat, maybe $50 for the weldments, mags can be found for $10-15 easily. You'd need a welder, a dremel, and a 3D printer would let you make useable jigs for cheap enough, but those tools could be used on many other projects, unlike AK tooling, which is only useful for AKs.
AK kits have seriously gone up in price, even the "cheap" ones are barely cheaper than just buying a PSA Blem AK. If you just want an AK go for that.
If you just want to build a gun that isn't an AR, Cetme is a good option, Skorpions are fun too.
If you really want to build an AK, the AK-specific tooling alone will cost the same as a kit, but then you'll need a hydraulic press, probably a drill press, etc. You don't build AKs because they're or the ammo is cheap anymore, you do it because you want to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
This kit is just to do Saddam larp
YOLO_Bundy@reddit
The Greek?!? Is that you?!?
Phyraxus56@reddit
I'd rather buy a noose to Saddam larp
Ivorylance@reddit
I get the impression that you don't know what you are talking about because you are suggesting you can fold a cetme flat without a hydraulic press. A drill press is also recommended.
A legal (922r compliant) cetme c is going to be around \~$500 even if you don't mess up your first flat. A novice will mess up the first flat and end up with a crooked gun.
AtomicPhantomBlack@reddit
I've forgot about the hydraulic press, I've owned one for a while, for AKs and it slipped my mind. Forgive me
uhqt@reddit
I was more just being a dumbass with my comment. I’m not too experienced with welding so I wouldn’t really buy a kit unless it’s a hell of a deal and I could learn to put it together myself or find someone to do it cheap enough. I think it would be a cool piece for sure but I wouldn’t seriously consider it tbh. Especially since the consensus here seems to be that these are garbage
accounts_baleeted@reddit
No, this is a pile of literal trash
M11Nine@reddit
You should see the Ethiopian GAFAT kits that just came in if you think these are trash.
But those, just like these, are unheard of in the US up until these. Before these were brought in, a kit like this would sell for several thousand.
Makemeathrowawaypls@reddit
Get a full Arsenal for $100 less and you don't have to mess with some shot to shit Iraq parts kit getting built from a less than reputable US builder.
M11Nine@reddit
The people buying Arsenal rifles aren't the market for these. The people wanting these are collectors that like strange/unique AK's. Tabuk's have never been legally imported into the USA before.
Major-021@reddit
Downvote this guy if you hate pedophiles
Makemeathrowawaypls@reddit
It's a cruel world we live in
The_Longest_Shot@reddit
Once upon a time you could buy a whole-ass AK from sportsman's guide for $200 and it wasn't chopped like this pile of shit.
The AK space has gotten really sad
Fearless-Jeweler-318@reddit
the market for combloc rifles and military surplus is dead, everyone holding is a boomer with a basement full of rusted out guns they haven't touched in 15 years and the only ones buying are techbro hipsters with no frame of reference or gun shops in big cities looking for display pieces to entice said boomers and techbro hipsters
companies like atlantic firearms and primary arms perpetuate this for selfish gain as well
speezly@reddit
Collectors still be collecting. I’ve got a kit from virtually every country that produced an AK. If I wasn’t broke af I would prob buy this because it is rare and collectible. A brand new Zastava is the exact same rifle at a very fair price for the average AK buyer and it’s made by the same factory that set up all the Iraqi tooling to make these tabuk
Oakroscoe@reddit
I hate your favorite AK?
juggarjew@reddit
Theres been a lot of mil surp pistols on the market recently. CZ-82's for $179, VZ-50's for $159, Polish Radoms, Tokarevs of various flavors. It could be worse.
xKHAZx@reddit
hopefully once ex-combloc states are taken off import bans we will see a resurgence? I'm not even sure if that's possible even if the rule change goes through.
The_Longest_Shot@reddit
I think the good old days of AK are behind us and nothing will change that.
GiveMeSumChonChon@reddit
Seems like the good ol days with firearms in general are behind us. If the laws don’t prevent you first the price will.
paint3all@reddit
MP5s have never been this cheap, even when accounting for inflation. We're Sub 1k for a decent licenced clone. Pre COVID they were 1400 bucks minimum. Even in the 2000s they were north of 1k.
yobo9193@reddit
My $350 1911 begs to differ
GiveMeSumChonChon@reddit
Is it tisa, rock island or something else? I’ve been wanting a 1911 but don’t know which budget one is best.
yobo9193@reddit
Tisas. The parts fit together better than Colt’s that cost more than 3x as much
speezly@reddit
The rock island are also nice. Haven’t held a tisas but I’ve had a rock for years
speezly@reddit
These kits are for collectors who want the variants. This is actually a highly desirable kit bc of its rarity, not its quality. Just the history behind the tavuk is fascinating
Far_War_7254@reddit
I don't think the price tag is inherent to the platform, more the historical value lol
Fearless-Jeweler-318@reddit
Not an argument for a chopped up parts kit
GoldfishDude@reddit
Yet this is why parts kits have differing values. You can still find parts kits for a third of this
ridbitty@reddit
I remember buying a gallon of gas for $0.84 and a pack of smokes for $4.00
The_Longest_Shot@reddit
Yeah, man. My first car got filled with $0.79 gas, $5 at a time.
ridbitty@reddit
Those were the days…..
Z_0_Sick@reddit
I love these even tho they are probably shot out messes idc
Brkish24@reddit
Received my kit today, bullet tests quite well actually!
Tyrfaust@reddit
Just buy a Zastava M70 for $300 less. It's literally the same rifle but made by a drunk Serbian instead of a stoned Iraqi.
Scav-STALKER@reddit
It’s like you all don’t understand that this is for the discerning collector, not the mag dump into trash crowd
Tyrfaust@reddit
My point stands, the Tabuk is just a Zastava M70 with a different roll mark and less quality.
SierraDespair@reddit
Is the furniture from these interchangeable with a normal Zastava/Yugo?
ApprehensiveLow5537@reddit
Yep
SnarlingLittleSnail@reddit
Would love a tabuk, just not a parts kit at this price
AOIXV115@reddit
Someone’s 04 BFPU forgotten an in armory somewhere
neuralpluto884@reddit
Populated barrel, so i should make this into a plastikov? /s
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
Id expect the tabuk sniper for this price.
