Are non-reflective windshields possible?

I drive a lot on my job. Today (for the 1,000th time) I was traveling with the sun to my back. The sun's reflection on the traffic I was meeting was as bright as a welding arc. Sunglasses help but it's still blinding. Couldn't automakers help tone down the glare without hampering a driver's ability to see through their windshield?

Reflections are polarized. Get some polarized sunglasses. You might have to experiment a little until you find some with the best orientation.
Ok_Two_2604@reddit
Yup, it is rude to just assume sunglasses’ orientation

I can relate. On my Acura, the HUD and one of the environmental displays is polarized differently than the rest of the screens. All, but those 2, look OK with my polarized sunglasses.

HUD will basically always be polarized because it's used the same physics to generate the HUD. Other automotive displays should be oriented at 45deg, unless the manufacturer is stupid.

You can also get polarized film for your windshield.

Illegal in most states except for an eyebrow.

I thought it was only when they blocked light transmission. Like dark tint.
NuclearHateLizard@reddit
Speeding is also illegal, 90 percent of people give zero shits about that law, but will let fear rule them for others

You’re an idiot

Window tint will help and it's cheap to purchase and easy to install.
briman2021@reddit
What? Tinting a window is definitely not easy if you give even a single fuck how it looks.
If you don’t care about a half dozen ugly as bubbles and wrinkles, then yeah all you need is a knife, some soapy water and a squeegee. If it was easy people wouldn’t be charging $50-100 or more a window.

I've done it myself multiple times and have never had bubbling. It's not rocket science.

i charge $280 for full windshield on most vehicles the roll of material itself costs me almost $1k

I have blue eyes and very light sensitive...good pair of sunglasses goes a long...long way.

Polarizers sunglasses help immensely with reducing dash glare on the windshield. Seriously, it can't be overstated blue big of a difference they make.

Sometimes your windshield is just so scratched and sandblasted that a new windshield is the only thing that gets ride of the glare from the light scattering. This is common in desert states.
Of course, that may or not be the problem with your vehicle, but it's worth considering.

I had 50% tint that wasn’t noticeable enough to get me in trouble but helped a ton with lights and glare.

An old trick from Le Mans drivers is to keep a small strip of black electrical tape on the inside of your windshield to block the sun.
A new trick is not to forget about it when it is hot. Ok, I learned that the hard way, had to use a straight edge razor blade to get it off the windshield
