For what it’s worth this modification is still very common and done right now in Ukraine. I’m not really sure why, whether it’s because they have a lot of PKTs, or because they now use Western systems for their coax guns, or something else. I’m really not sure. Regular PKs are very common and I don’t see why they’d remove them from armored vehicles. Perhaps salvaging them from destroyed armor?
Conversions right now frequently use 3d printed parts, they’ve been posted pretty extensively in this sub.
