I miss magazines, especially beautifully made free ones.

The fashion do’s and don’ts was peak late 90s
username__0000@reddit
And the “say anything” akward moment story’s.
We used to read them and then make up our own and read them to each other. And then assume they were all fake and people doing what we were doing but actually sending them in. lol
I sometimes miss having the time to be bored and doing silly stuff like that to pass time.
bradyblack@reddit
And it was absolutely hilarious
YcemeteryTreeY@reddit
Vice is dead. Didnt they sell out or something? RIP, used to be good reporting
rosephoenix19@reddit
I remember about 10 or 15 years ago, I first discovered vice on YouTube. Got into a lot of their stories and honestly they had really great reporting. Unfortunately as it went on, it got lower quality and eventually it went bankrupt. I'm like, "Yeah, it's about time."
JunkHead1979@reddit
Most magazines I got were all PC/Gaming related. Sometimes I had Music/Guitar related ones as well. I also enjoyed getting Musician's Friend catalogs.
Laterdays82@reddit
I remember hoping the local record store would have the latest copy of Vice in the late 90s when it was mostly a punk rock fanzine. It's crazy to see how they turned it into a whole media empire.
thehousewright@reddit
I still miss Giant Robot.
lemonheadlock@reddit
Even the ads in a lot of magazines were good.
Emotional_Signal7883@reddit
I get The Onion in print.
LezzieBorden4041@reddit
I do, too. 100% worth it, I know it used to be free but let’s be honest, it’s never been a more challenging time to work at “The Onion” when the actual news headlines get more unbelievable by the day.
Halloweenie23@reddit
I remember getting it for free in Philly
IloveMe80@reddit (OP)
For free?
Crabcakefrosti@reddit
In Madison it was free
Emotional_Signal7883@reddit
$99 a year
No_Zombie2021@reddit
RandomShake@reddit
Hi-Fructose is a great magazine still in print.
sleepy_potatoe_@reddit
That was on of my favorites and juxtapoz magazine. I’m still trying to find beautiful decay magazines.
Halloweenie23@reddit
I remember there was a lot of misogynist content...
that1tech@reddit
I miss vices does and don’ts
Crabcakefrosti@reddit
That was McGinnis
apaulo26@reddit
Anyone remember Big Brother? Terribly printed like all the skate mags.
First time I saw it I opened to a Johnny Knoxville getting shot in the chest. Only protected by a stack of Nat Geo’s.
Holy Cuss.
ReadyAimTranspire@reddit
I do!
I recall they had a 40oz shootout comparison article
Smurfblossom@reddit
I loved nothing more than having my latest stash of fashion mags and a Friday or Saturday night in reading them while doing beauty treatments. They're just not the same anymore so they don't get my money. And reading them online doesn't cut it either, the content just isn't the same. So now I just watch tv. *sigh*
RoyDonkeyKong@reddit
I subscribe to three magazines at the moment. They’re there when you’re ready for them.
truefriend29@reddit
Whoa! I didn't know that VICE was an actual magazine! I thought that it was a cable network!🤷🏽♂️📕
Unusual-Minimum9306@reddit
Started with kids and nature stuff. Later got sports illustrated because my grandfather saw me reading his. Big brother skate punk stuff in high school. Rolling stone. Then National Geographic and maxim in college. The Atlantic post grad. And since then it’s all been digital only. Never noticed how many magazines I used to get until this post.
_shaftpunk@reddit
Used to get VICE, While You Were Sleeping, Juxtapoz, URB, Mixmag as well as metal stuff like Terrorizer and later Decibel.
edasto42@reddit
There’s still great free ones around my town. There’s a pretty decently sized anti establishment vibe around and there’s a few monthly mags that go along with that. I love it
Grinzy@reddit
Vice was super dope. When I found out one of the creators turned into a right-wing nut, I got turned off.
IloveMe80@reddit (OP)
He left in 2008 but Yeah, how does a Canadian go on to the the leader of the proud boys?
Re1deam1@reddit
Opie and Anthony.. it started on the Opie and Anthony show as a bit and then it mutated into a cult like Fight Club situation
DisastrousTurn9220@reddit
I used to hang out at Tower Records perusing their periodicals for hours. So many cool foreign mags. I miss it, there's just something nice about whiling the afternoon away with a cool mag.
don51181@reddit
Where I live our city and Nashville makes some nice free magazines. Mostly geared toward art or music. It is a nice flashback to the past.
Growing up I loved magazines but have not bought one in years. It is still surprising to see the magazine section in Walmart or the grocery store.
Re1deam1@reddit
I still have most of my vice mags from the oughts.. Great reads for when I get nostalgic
Mysterious_Fennel459@reddit
Print is dead. Magazines are and always have been such a waste of paper. I used to collect Game Informer magazines but tossed them after realizing, I just gloss through the pages once and then put it in a drawer.
westgazer@reddit
Print is definitely not dead, no.
westgazer@reddit
I have quite a few literary magazines that are still going strong.
cybah@reddit
I used to subscribe to over 12 different magazines. Slowly over time they all 'went online' or went out of business.
The only one which still keeps coming and still renews is Consumer Reports magazine. But tbh I think they still do a print edition b/c much of their readership is over 45... who still like a paper magazine like I do.
Also miss VICE mag. So many interesting things to read in there.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
One of my favorites was Maximum PC.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Magazines have been printing ai slop grade media for about a decade now. You can see for yourself with the Libby app from your library.
u4got2wipe@reddit
BPM back in the day in Southern California was one of my favorites
