Highly recommend this new podcast with Scott Galloway. One of his best. His claim, 1 out of 3 billionaires now has a fully ready-to-go escape plan for themselves and their families.

AI CEOs are selling us the dream of ‘freedom’, making billions off the fear of mass job loss! Scott Galloway reveals the truth is more complicated and far more deceptive.
Scott Galloway is an NYU Stern Professor of Marketing, entrepreneur, and host of The Prof G Pod and Pivot. He is known for breaking down the biggest shifts in business, technology, wealth, and culture. He is also the bestselling author of books such as The Four, The Algebra of Happiness, and Post Corona.

If you were a multi millionaire, wouldn't YOU have an escape/apocalypse bunker?
This isn't a surprise, nor does it constitute any kind of evidence that the ultra rich are plotting the demise of the planet.
Jovan_Knight005@reddit
And they've been plotting the demise of the planet for years without the civilian population's knowledge.
ttystikk@reddit
No they really haven't.
They've been maximizing their own personal gains, without regard to the consequences to others.
The outcome is just as bad, but no intent required.
kitzelbunks@reddit
Maybe no intent was required at first, but they seem very comfortable with the idea of the civilization collapsing. Once they became aware that what they were doing was bad for our planet, they formed the intent to survive. Who is Trump building a bunker under the White House for, the next president? Lol.
Void_of_a_Writer01@reddit
No I wouldn’t, if I have the resources of a multimillionaire or even someone like Musk Is do whatever possible and even spend every single dollar of it to create the technology & materials science to give life on this planet a fighting chance. You can’t outrun the collapse of a biosphere for long… eventually complex machines break, infrastructure erodes, and even hydroponic systems won’t help when your AI data centers drink the streams dry and the rest of global society & wildlife collapses. Even if you’re lucky to wait another 50 to a couple hundred years… Congratulations, the moment you step foot outside you’ll be cooked alive. 🤷♂️
ttystikk@reddit
While I don't disagree, my point stands.
ejpusa@reddit (OP)
OP here, 140,00 views later, I just watched it for the second time. Think it's one of the top podcasts I've seen in a while. Yes, Scott is controversial about lots of topics, but this is one of his best.
You will learn something new, guaranteed.

What’s the point of hiding in bunkers if the world above is no longer safe? They’ll just die in isolation, any remains people alive won’t help them
RandomTO24@reddit
But they'll live the longest. That's what matters to them.
tlatelolca@reddit
they'll die on their own terms, instead of "eaten" by unhappy people
NarrMaster@reddit
You mean after the air has ran out, because concrete was poured down the vent, right?
RandomTO24@reddit
You think people will find them on New Zealand?
nw342@reddit
A lot of the billionaire bunker locations are well known. Not easy to hide a massive bunker
ToastedandTripping@reddit
People can't even bother to get out and protest their local government; no chance people bother hiking all the way out to these place, and those that do will be picked off.
GloriousDawn@reddit
picked off by who ? armed security ? the armed security that will stay faithful to their billionaire boss and will die defending their bunker instead of using it for themselves ?
StoneSpace@reddit
Boston Dynamics AI robot soldiers, probably.
DavidCRolandCPL@reddit
Then cut off the power when you block the vents. The backup gennys need air, or theyll flood and become useless.
AnOnlineHandle@reddit
Who is going to fix the inevitable bugs and do the inevitable repairs? We're still a long way from being able to automate that.
khakiwallprint@reddit
Won't even matter, these ghouls need attention so bad they'll break long before the equipment does. Just remember how they handled covod lockdowns
Neglected_Martian@reddit
Bet those don’t take commonly available ammunition very well. Not even as good as movies would have us believe.
Madness_Reigns@reddit
Cause they absolutely already thought of that themselves. The guards will have bomb collars.
Ciennas@reddit
What guards would they get to sign up for that kind if insanity?
Madness_Reigns@reddit
Beats me, but that's the plan.
ToastedandTripping@reddit
Robots, you can damn well bet they've thought of that. Also explosive collars could also be an effective means of control.
Every_Car2984@reddit
What is the armed security has their family held hostage inside the bunker? Don’t underestimate the evil…
OGBaconwaffles@reddit
People hurt themselves to sell put their neighbors, you don't think in an apocalyptic hellscape some people won't go out and hunt down little kids to bring back to these people, let alone defend the bunker, if they just let them stay in the bunker and get a few decent meals per week?
loralailoralai@reddit
lol never been to New Zealand have you. It’s not that large

I don't understand why they can't improve the world instead? If they are too stupid to find out how to do it, hire someone who can. Is it really better to sit in a comfy bunker than keep the planet livable?
FrownsRUs@reddit
Billionaires only BECOME and STAY billionaires BECAUSE they extract labor and resources in ways that make the world much worse.
For them to start improving the world, it would require that they pivot away from everything they've devoted their lives to thus far.
DecafCreature@reddit
I didn’t really get it either until I heard Douglas Rushkoff artfully explain it on the Danny Jones podcast the other day.
He has personally spoken to a lot of these ‘tech bro’ accelerationists and has a very unique perspective that anybody not building underground bunkers or moon bases should hear.
He spells it all out in the first ten minutes or so.
AnOnlineHandle@reddit
That guy's opening should make anybody roll their eyes. He talks about how he writes about magic and the occult and how "they" don't want you to use drugs because they're worried about you seeing reality differently.
He's an utter loon. I wouldn't even be confident that anything he says he experienced even happened.
toastedzergling@reddit
Much like a serial killer does not think about the consequences of being caught, most rich people do not seriously think about the consequences of the end of the world. They are much more preoccupied with executing their delusional plan to make a little Oasis while the rest of the world is a nuclear apocalypse.
cecilmeyer@reddit
I like how you compared them to serial killers. Because if you think about it that is what the oligarchs really are.

They all suffer from GDS - greed derangement syndrome. One of the many symptoms is: they think they will emerge from their bunker and save civilization. Delusions of grandeur
Crimson_Kang@reddit
Oh my favorite part of this horrific escapade is isolation, especially long term isolation, requires serious mental stability. The odds of them going bat shit and killing everyone or being killed themselves is incredibly high. Somehow I think the people used to always having everything won't fare well in a world where restraint and patience decide whether you live or die.

I just don’t know why they’d opt for such a miserable way to go out, though. Slowly decomposing while your last remaining resources run out is NOT the way to go (it’s quite possibly one of the most horrifying ways to perish), but if that’s what they choose, then let them eat cake 🤭🤪
BillsWingzMafia@reddit

They need a whole team to keep a bunker operational water food air filters heating cooling all that stuff how would you pull that off are you going to pay them Money is worthless in the apocalypse
Joe_Bedaine@reddit
Well in that scenario, their salary would be for them and possibly their own children to be allowed to stay in the bunker and not die
Obviously they hire people who would not or could not turn against them, and likely have internal security systems with a password only them know, possibly biometric? It becomes too risky for their slaves to ever rebel.
bradmajors69@reddit
Yeah (spoiler) it's like that movie Triangle of Sadness where IIRC the cruise ship full of obscenely wealthy people ends up stranded on a remote island and the housekeeper -- the only one who knows how to procure food -- becomes the boss.
I'm guessing in the event of a sudden apocalypse more than a few billionaires will arrive at their bunkers to find them occupied by their local staff and the staff's extended family and friends. Those billionaires will be lucky to get one Cliff Bar and a bottle of Fiji water before being sent away to fend for themselves.
thismightaswellhappe@reddit
Was thinking on this recently. These are people who are basically incapable of confronting or grappling with their own mortality. Just due to the nature of their position, getting everything they want, etc., the friction and discomfort of facing death, REALLY facing it, isn't something they're equipped for. Human psychology working the way it does, it just won't materialize for them. They really want to live forever.
1genuine_ginger@reddit
They've been sold the idea, some bunker-maker is laughing all the way to the bank

GreenDemonClean@reddit
But what if, let’s just say hypothetically, they engineer something like a virus that is very easy to spread and is also pretty deadly. Billions of people die while they wait out a year or three in their stocked and prepped bunkers. When they reemerge whenever later, the “top” is free from the majority of humans without all that nuclear winter or waste. Elon gets to repopulate the recovering world with the, I don’t know, solar powered uteruses he’s configured to carry his sprogs, which have been on ice in his basement.
*I am not a conspiracy theorist, I get vaccines and believe in science. this just jumped into my head the other day and it hasn’t left
-also in the situation above Elon STILL gets left off party lists.
SurgeFlamingo@reddit
If you had 10 bucks and it cost .25 to make a bunker for a what if scenario, you’d probably use the quarter and make one.
nickiter@reddit
Real nice bunker > being strung up by the starving masses, I guess?
mojitz@reddit
The answer is that most of these people actually just aren't that bright in a general sense. They have a very narrowly focused intelligence and drive that (along with a healthy dose of luck) produces tremendous success under capitalism, but that doesn't mean they have a superior intellect in all regards
The other element that people aren't considering here is that these things might as well be free for the ultra wealthy for all intents and purposes. Beyond a certain amount, the money becomes and almost pure abstraction — adding or subtracting even vast sums of which doesn't materially impact their lives. If you could just turn to an assistant and say, "build me a gigantic bunker in New Zealand" and then have that work proceed as if by magic without even having to think of where the money is going to come from or concerning yourself with the details one iota more than you want to, then you'd do it in a heartbeat. The odds of it actually being useful don't even factor in because whether you built it or not, you'll have more money and resources at your disposal than anybody could possibly make full use of in a thousand lifetimes at the end of the day. Are the chances less than one in a billion that you'll ever need the place? Literally doesn't matter.
cstmoore@reddit
C'mon now, those bunker airshafts won't fill themselves with concrete.
Sputnik-overdrive@reddit

IntoTheCommonestAsh@reddit
Do they? If you're a billionaire couldn't you invest in a closed loop electrolysis system like they got in space?
Asking genuinely, I'm just thinking what I'd do if I were a billionaire investing in survival.
LordDaedalus@reddit
Even if you have a closed loop air ventilation system, the solution seems the same. If you pour concrete over the entrance, you haven't harmed them you've just made sure they'll never interact with the rest of the world ever again which is the desirable net result when dealing with anyone who may intentionally burn down the world.
WHALE_PHYSICIST@reddit
That's why they need the robot cops to work before they can let things collapse.
StoryLover12345@reddit
chatgpt already partnered with the government. A flying drone is enough as a cop. Like those small DJI drones.
Watts_With_Time@reddit
Never ever concrete the entrance. You'll want to get in to get all the goodies they've stockpiled. All the food, all the weapons, and everything else.
Block the air vent (or put something vile down there) and take out the power supply.
LordDaedalus@reddit
Why risk it? If we all just mutually agree that if everything collapses we may not be able to breach a billionaires bunker designed to keep us out but if we all say "if that happens we can at least seal you in forever" then there's no future where they get to wait out our demise and emerge to claim the world. The stockpiles they'd have would be large, but relatively small split between all us poors on the surface.
I don't know that I could get past their security, I don't know that I could slip anything through a state of the art air filtration system.
But I know a couple hundred average people could make swift work of burying any bunker in relatively short order.
Watts_With_Time@reddit
The problem is, the more high tech there is, the more to go wrong. They would need to stockpile a stack of spare parts and technicians who know how to repair things. And then, the part that fails is the part you didn't stock. Can the technician bypass it somehow?
They won't be able to order a part and have it in a few days. And they won't be able to google how to fix their equipment.
I'm looking forward to them seeing how the real world operates.
shatners_bassoon123@reddit
My partner works in a fast food place and their coffee machine breaks down almost every two weeks and needs someone to come and put replacement parts in it. That's a simple coffee machine. There's no way in hell you're keeping a nuclear reactor and closed loop electrolysis system running for long without an international supply chain of parts and expertise.
jorgespinosa@reddit
I don't think they are planning that far ahead, I think the bunkers are just for them to feel safe, but let's be honest, with all the luxury and consumption they are used too, living in those bunkers would be hell for them, but they don't consider that.
FlashyHeight9323@reddit
The main issue with the bunker plan is most technology gets updated every few years. Most of those bunkers are already outdated
voidsong@reddit
Worse, they require regular maintenance just to stay functional.
But that's not something you think of when everything is taken care of by your staff.
nytel@reddit
That sounds smart but my car is outdated and still fully functional.
Apprehensive_Wolf217@reddit
Plus almost all of them are vain, vapid narcissists who need hoi polloi to fawn over them, be jealous of them, and covet their lifestyle. I mean, take away the dopamine high they get from considering themselves better than everyone else and you’ve taken away all their oxygen and reason for living. No mega yachts, private jets, no vacations to exclusive resorts that serve children for dinner and entertainment, no social media to brag about it all, no met gala to dress up in ridiculous costumes, they won’t last a year. That’s if their hand picked staff and security don’t do them in when they realize they can take whatever they want for themselves.
EdenSill@reddit
I mean some of us peasants are going to survive. I think, even if they do survive in their butts for however, long, a few months weeks of years, they’re probably going to be torn, limb from limb as soon as they step foot outside.

i highly recommend the "Bioforms" series, and all Tchaikovsky's books. many of them deal with collapsing environments and/or worker rebellions.
festoon_the_dragoon@reddit
Huge upvote for Tchaikovsky. I only read his Shadows of the Apt and Children of Time series, but both were outstanding. And definitely collapse vibes in both books.
What he pulls off with Children of Time should be B-level schlock. And instead he won the Arthur C. Clark award and deservedly so. It's an amazing book. I still refer to every jumping spider I see as either Portia, Viola, or Fabian depending on size, lol.
CrazyCatLady108@reddit
i find his plots to be very realistic when it comes to both human psychology and politics. don't know if it is because of his background in entomology or just a generally pessimistic view of humanity.
even though he is 3 writers in a trench-coat i am still going to run out of his books to read soon. :(

College and healthcare in the bunkers?
bakerfaceman@reddit
I'm talking pre-collapse
Legendver2@reddit
That's the thing, no one's going to care during the collapse or post-collapse. One of the best parts about this episode is when he talked about his convo with one of these billionaires, about how does he know if his pilot won't just kill him and f*** his wife and just take the bunker himself when SHTF.
bakerfaceman@reddit
By building human connection to make that harder. That's the most important thing. People don't just automatically turn into monsters, even if SHTF. Especially when there's value in sticking together. Real life isn't a movie
HommeMusical@reddit
The sorts of people who can build real human connections don't generally get to be billionaires in the first place.
bakerfaceman@reddit
Excellent point. It requires a level of antisocial psychology to get into that position. Unless you inherited the money or came into it somehow. Regular people who do that become Melinda Gates or Bezos' ex. They give away their fortune. That's still problematic though because philanthropy isn't as efficient as government programs.
Mission_Reply_2326@reddit
One thing I read somewhere (don’t remember where) is that the way billionaires plan to keep the help in line is by buying loyalty. For example, really going overboard to help the family of members of their private army so when the SHTF there will be an emotional aspect of loyalty in return.

We arebt even close to over populated; that is a talking point of authority , not a scientific reality. The system we use is out of date and does not meet our needs. You can't run the same system with four billion as you do with ten billion and expect nothing to change.
The true reality is we throw away enough food to feed every single person in this country. The american model of excess is not sustainable. Its not the same thing as overpopulated.
SamSlams@reddit
We most definitely are overpopulated and to think otherwise is just plain nonsense and not some "talking point". The ONLY reason we can feed more than 1.5-2 billion people is because of fossil fuels and fertilizers. We may throw away enough food to feed everyone in this country but that's because capitalism is fucking atrocious. The one thing you're right on is the American model of excess is not sustainable, even for us Americans.
jb_in_jpn@reddit
But ... why? Why wouldn't you, as a billionaire, want to keep the train rolling, whatever it takes.
I'm not asking rhetorically - I'm curious what this plan seeks to "solve".
Iamdarb@reddit
The goal is for all of them to emerge as the only ones who have resources, then they rule as the new kinds/feudal lords over the realms. They'll be the only ones with the tech to make any new breakthroughs, and they're relying on most of us being dead so that they get away with it. They want total control.
ansibleloop@reddit
But they aren't engineers so what exactly can they build?
These tech CEOs are just sleazy salesmen with no practical value
emmc47@reddit
The only smart answer here.
Indigo_Sunset@reddit
I think it's part of the answer.
Too many are stuck on bunkers, and for a few lesser mega rich they may have gone that route, but it smells of a managed narrative misdirection. The better and more flexible pathing is an ocean going 'bunker' with mobility and defensive capacity that benefits from being no where near the plebes and their torches, and can manage locating a suitable landfall rather than being stuck with whatever collection of people camped out overhead spitting into a fake air intake.
jak1212@reddit
Add to this two related things. Seeking the excess of something is addiction; billionaires are addicts, inherently. They always want more. But at the scale of billion with a “b”, money means less and less. It is no longer grounded in reality as an instrument for purchasing. So it then primarily becomes a score and everything in life is merely a game. The things you mentioned are simply untethered ways to increase their score versus other top players.
MistyMtn421@reddit
Eugenics!
I am a firm believer that the sex/trafficking part of the Epstein files is actually the distraction from what was happening at the Zorro ranch in NM. Every link I saved about it in 2019 ha vanished. It's the most hushed up part of that debacle and where his links to a lot of scientists come in to play.
These guys all think they're just one step under God, and they want to remake the world in their image.
TheLostDestroyer@reddit
They have! Don't you see that? We talk about billionaires like Bezos and Zucky, but they are not the ones that did this. They are feeding off it and profiting from it. They built their fortunes after the damage had already been done. The Oil and food oligarchs are the ones that "kept the train running" the kept it running when science told the world that we were drastically changing the ecosystem of this planet. They "kept the train running" when they saw we were headed right up and over the cliff of population overshoot. The train has been "kept running" so long that we are now out of track. This is the end run, they are trying to hoard as many resources as possible to survive as long as possible now they they fully know that the planet is going to drastically change to be much less habitable for humans(and many other species). Their whole plan now is to outlast the billions that are going to die. It's not about survival anymore, it's about living a life of insane luxury until the wheels fall off and we are all gone.
Hate_Manifestation@reddit
they see 99% of humanity as unnecessary, so they'll just wait it out. the problem with that plan is that a very very significant portion of humanity has correctly identified them as the problem to be fixed.
too-much-noise@reddit
My personal feeling is that billionaires do want to keep the train rolling as long as possible, but they also know that there is no stopping eventual collapse at this point - you'd have to get every billionaire and every country in the world to cooperate towards a common, unpleasant goal (degrowth) and we all know that will never happen. So it's not that they are rooting for collapse, but they recognize that it's coming and can actually sort of prepare for it (unlike the average person).
emmc47@reddit
Dude, they are the ones who knowingly want this to happen. They very well had the influence to maintain levels of wealth while pushing efforts to save the planet.
The simple truth is that these people are perilous sociopaths.
emmc47@reddit
Because they're megalomaniacial sociopaths. It's about producing the outcome that will lead to total subjugation. In a world of collapse where they can scoop up all the important resources, and thus either find safe haven in their little technofeudal states or die a slow, miserable death, most would choose the former.
They also want to find the key to immortality, because they hate their humanity. They hate that they are just as susceptible to the great equalizer as all of us peons.
Routine-Ad-2840@reddit
they can die in their bunkers full of gold bars and feel a sense of accomplishment? crazy.

As a Brit I really can't stand the podcast host. Can't you find another Scott Galloway podcast to post. I'm not just moaning, he really is a tit of the highest order.
RagingNerdaholic@reddit
As a Canadian, I can't stand him (DoaC douche) either. Galloway has some solid takes, but this podcast reeks of bro-slop.
imalostkitty-ox0@reddit
He’s part of the far right pipeline, and seems to only interview utter absolute tosses
Lothirieth@reddit
He sometimes does have actual experts. I've always been bothered by that as it gives his crap guests more credibility. He is a grifter who doesn't seem to feel any responsibility about his influence.
imalostkitty-ox0@reddit
It’s a rotating carnival rides of The Joe Rogan Experience, with a little tweak here, a little tweak there. You prefer to get your disinformation from a black gay British man, or from a grunting bald American man with cauliflower ears? Or perhaps you’d prefer a literal Russian in a black suit?
It’s literally all the same. I wager over 95% of popular YouTube “geopolitics” podcast hosts are engineered by the state, not merely “captured”.
smackson@reddit
Points well taken. None of them are to be trusted, but I still hop around and enjoy some of their conversations for entertainment.
Obviously depends on the guest, A LOT. But also some of them are just funner, funnier, better at follow up questions, etc...
And Diary of a CEO is the only one I now never watch, no matter the guest. Rogan with a real scientist: fine! Lex has weird science scientists on, and despite his monotonous delivery, seems to get into the sub-questions the way I would if I were there...
Even Chris Williamson is fun / pleasant to have on on the background. But Steven Bartlett is somehow -- in a way I can't put my finger on -- painful to watch.
By the way, I hope everyone in this sub has "The Great Simplification" in the list.
Ok-Store-9297@reddit
The Nate Hagens podcast is brilliant. Has some fantastic guests I would never have come across otherwise. I learned of Michael Every and have been watching him for geopolitics insight ever since. Was actually ChatGPT recommended me that.

imalostkitty-ox0@reddit
Chase Hughes is the only one of these ~~cunts~~ “content producers” I’ve seen who has been absolutely masterful at not revealing a seething support for dark gothic MAGA/intentional depopulation.
Clever propaganda involves wearing costumes of the opposing side, so the black British bloke will be coded as homosexual (to get past the subconscious intellectual defenses of rational left-leaning saps), Kiriakou will pretend to be somewhat leftist by taking Russian money, Hughes will pretend to be a diehard libertarian, and Bustamante wears a wig to pretend to be a centrist.
Not one of these fucks will tell the whole truth.
VanillaHuel@reddit
the 'black British bloke' was talking happily about his girlfriend-now-fiancée so I dunno how well coding him as gay would go ... 🤔

I love this for them! While we get to pass either instantly or relatively quickly, they will have to devolve into underground "bunker"-creatures in a world turned desolate and toxic, scared to death of possible survivores on the surface who are no longer bound by any rules or laws or anything that could hold them back when the bunker creatures try to stick their heads out of their rat holes.
Ill_Lifeguard6321@reddit
They are preparing for collapse and it sucks knowing that instead of those rich fucks trying to do something better and end all the climate issues, they’d rather just run. Sociopaths.
Icaninternetplease@reddit
They don't understand that the bunkers would be the least safe place to be if everything collapses.
And I hope they achieve true digital immortality. The end point there is becoming some vestigial part of some super intelligence; forced to exist without agency until the heat death of the universe.
They really haven't thought this thing through. They haven't come to terms with the inevitable and it really shows.
Cubusphere@reddit
That doesn't mean it's more likely. They just have expendable wealth to protect themselves from whatever they fear, irrelevant of how plausible it actually is.
It also doesn't make collapse less likely, that's not what I'm saying.

I wonder how many of these "doomsday bunkers" are actually already occupied but used as sex dungeons, fully equipped to keep their slaves captive and alive until they get bored of em, after which they can dispose of them in the bunker's incinerator
Also I am certain that many of these successful criminals built their bunkers not so much in case of the apocalypse but thinking some day they may have to go into hiding from authorities, or angry mobs of people, or professional assassins sent by a former partner, or who knows whom.
CallEmAsISeeEm1986@reddit
My post apocalyptic plan, in its entirety, is to gather a bunch of roughnecks to help me move a drill rig over each of these “bunkers” and punch a hole into it…
… then get the local dairy to pump the contents of their manure lagoons into them until it overflows, then move on to the next one.
Once those dumbasses have immured themselves below ground where they belong, we can start to fix the world.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

PabloPicasso@reddit
End the billionaire class before they end everyone else.
Prestigious-Copy-494@reddit
In thousands of years into the future, somewhat primitive men and women will find those old bunkers with the skeletons of the rich in them. And the rich won't survive either longer than five or ten years in bunkers and no clean air or earth to grow vegetables when they emerge. No world to rule. The few survivors will have to start over from scratch. The bunker people will be too weak by then to survive.
Bandits101@reddit
They possibly could survive for a relative short period BUT this warming period is destined to continue for thousands of years before it begins to level out. The bunker should be in the most inhospitable location to begin with.
It’s not very smart to build in an idyllic location and expect it to remain. There will be no islands of plenty in a sea of want.
jkaczor@reddit
No shit sherlock.
Of course, if collapse is their plan, then they are stupider than I thought- because there is a whole civilization and supply structure that goes into meeting their lifestyle needs - and automation and robotics is nowhere near replacing that anytime soon…
A_Thorny_Petal@reddit
All these billionaires building private bunkers for their Security Team and some teenage hacker kid that can take control of the bunker's sentry drones remotely from their village in Estonia.
The arrogance it takes to think that the former Navy Seal/Ranger guy who is the head of your security isn't going to just dome you, and move him and his friends into your nice base is fucking insane.
gobeklitepewasamall@reddit
Douglas Rushkoff wrote an entire book about thus: “survival of the richest.”
Tl:dr you can’t survive alone. You need a society, a whole community, to provide you with those things you can’t make/do yourself. That’s why we live in a society. Nobody is an island. At the very least you need a village.
Loreki@reddit
How many of them actually work though?
If your plan is to take your private jet to New Zealand, where a helicopter will meet you to take you to your 6 star luxury bunker, good fucking luck. Both the private jet and the helicopter require extremely complex organisational systems to still be working in order to operate safely. In a real disaster, your pilots may be dead, fuelling up impossible, runways damaged or blocked etc.
A survival hideout should be somewhere accessible to you with minimal help from anyone.
SeVenMadRaBBits@reddit
And working class people to pilot who survey know they wont be welcome

Or their security forces kill them - why would I want to listen to Mark Zuckerberg when everything I've ever known and loved is gone?
Living-Excuse1370@reddit
It's a really sad irony imo. These people could actually do good, they could actually help people or the environment (if they weren't narcissistic, sociopaths) Instead they chose a completely dystopian system for themselves. It doesn't matter what luxuries they have there, I still don't see how that future will be any better.
SeVenMadRaBBits@reddit
Humans need to stop letting those who make the most money run things.
And put a cap on money (or come up with a nrw system).
emmc47@reddit
To have that much wealth, you essentially have to be ontologically depraved of any moral compass.
CouchWizard@reddit
You're missing the entire point. The only way they amass this wealth is by being narcissistic sociopaths willing to ruin anything to get them slightly ahead.
Altruism is literally antithetical to their person. Any time you see any one of them doing something apparently altruistic, it's likely a pr stunt to cover for something else

I believe it. You'd be dumb enough to not do so.
They hate the fact they aren't immortal, that death is the greatest equalizer. They're sociopathic megalomaniancs that have deluded themselves into being in a higher sense of reality than everyone else. That's why they're willing to accelerate the collapse for the chance that they can have their own technofeudal states. Dominion over all of our lives as it currently stands still doesn't satisfy their greed.
It doesn't surprise anyone that they've already built the bunkers. They've been planning this outcome for decades.
Rustycake@reddit
Watched it. Frankly, it was nothing new that a lot of podcasts or that Scott hasnt stated himself many times over. There was nothing new presented in this one if you have been keeping your ear to ground (which I assume many here in this sub do).
I like Scott, he gives a solid and balanced perspective. Yes he has a bit of an ego, but its earned through his work which he is open and honest about. If you have never watched or listened to Scott this is def a video to check out and maybe skip around on, otherwise, its not new material if you are new to Scott or even Steven.
Human-ish514@reddit
Sometimes, it's nice to have something that's essentially a primer for a person who literally was born under a rock, or just so completely naive to how the world actually works. Kind of like how "Don't Look Up" would be a blueprint of things to look out for when dealing with a world that is facing an existential threat of extinction. They can point to something in reality and say "It's just like that part in that movie we saw last night."
Having names and metaphors for things is very important. It's why there is such a rush to ban or burn books and have people offload their thinking to A.I.. It's like they are trying to recreate the bad guys plan from the movie "Jewel of the Nile". Add some holograms and flying drones, robots, AI, etc....
Rustycake@reddit
Yea but we also need to be careful when watching these because while a lot of things we can say "hey its like that movie/book"
Its also not. I think social media knows what MSM has known for a long time which is fear drives eyes, eyes drive clicks, clicks = data points, data = monetization.
While we need to present and aware of the changes happening I think what is often overlooked is that a collapse of one system gives room for growth of the next. And if we get ourselves stuck in the doom and gloom we wont find that room.

I mean even if I thought there was a 1% chance of collapse, if I had a billion dollars I’d put a substantial amount into a bunker just for some piece of mind.
The fact that the people with the most disposable wealth in the world are putting money into preparations for a worst case scenario isn’t any kind of indicator of its likelihood

StanIsHorizontal@reddit
What it is an indicator of is the amount of disposable wealth these people have is increasing, and that they are choosing to literally and figuratively bury it in the backyard is probably not good for the overall health of the economy.
I’m also not saying the case for impending collapse doesn’t have better evidence, just that tracking the behaviors of the hyper wealthy as though they are smarter or more aware of secret happenings is probably incorrect. They are just as prone to irrational thinking as anyone else and they have way more money to act on it.
CorvidCorbeau@reddit
Exactly, the richest among us have been building fortified shelters for themselves and their servants to keep away threats (including the lower classes) fpr centuries. Castles are a pretty example of that.
Perhaps just like castle ruins, these bunkers will also become a historical artifact with a gift shop
Norman_Door@reddit
Thanks for saying this. While this could be seen as an indicator of more turbulent times ahead, I don't think this should be viewed as a reliable signal, as you could also argue this is just a form of risk mitigation / insurance.
e.g. if you knew there was a 0.01% chance your house is hit by a tornado, is it not unreasonable to build a bunker if money is no one object?
