What explains the price differences among similar used trucks?

After months of browsing used trucks, I have noticed large price variations on models that appear identically equipped in the lineup.
Same year brackets, same distant odometers but some differences in pricing are a mile apart.
Sure, condition and maintenance history matters but am I missing something?
I am attempting to grasp how to differentiate whether something is a bargin or a rip off?

What explains the difference between anything?
Details and the morons who value them differently.

Private sale is going to be cheaper than a dealer, is that a variable?

Certain brands are more desirable than others. Which engine and transmission makes a huge difference as well

I did not even think about engine and transmission that much at first, but now it makes more sense why some trucks are priced so differently.

I’ve noticed that lots of prices are all over the map. I haven’t started test driving anything yet, but I wonder if the low advertised prices are going to translate into a bunch of “mandatory add-ons” and what not.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. A lot of those lower prices probably do not reflect the actual cost once everything is added in. That is what made it confusing for me.
I ended up comparing different listings and specs side by side just to understand pricing differences better, and came across this while researching: https://www.usedhowotrucks.com/quality-55035550-used-howo-trucks-for-sale-price-list-models-in-africa
It helped a bit, but it still feels like there is a lot going on behind the scenes with pricing.

Rust. Also some trucks get beat to hell while other trucks are pavement princesses.

That is a good point, I did not really think about how much usage and wear can vary even if specs look similar. Makes sense why prices are all over the place.

Specific combination of features can be worth a lot more to the right buyer. And certain features just in general can be worth a lot more, like a diesel can get better mileage and last long.
A lot of dealers advertise a lower price than what they will actually charge. They can add $3k+ with pre installed overpriced aftermarket addons like stain protection or door guards. Fees like service fees, documentation fees and other made up charges. So private sellers can actually be cheaper
Sometimes the seller just wants more. Maybe they overpaid on a trade in or at auction. Or they are ok letting it sit for a couple months. Or they are just unreasonable. On cargurus you can filter and see cars listed for 100+ days, a lot of them are just priced high for what they are

Some guy wants to sell more cars than the other.
Substantial_Team6751@reddit
Asking prices are meaningless. You don't have actual sales data.
Nervous_Hurry_9920@reddit
Some dealers are churning out quantity, others are trying to maximize margins.
Some vehicles are bought at auction for the low, others were trade ins for the high.
Some vehicles have sat on the lot for a long time. Some dealers are greedy.
I've tried to negotiate for a car that had the interior I wanted. Asked something like why shouldn't I just buy this other car from that other place for cheaper? They called my bluff and were like idgaf, buy the other one.
I say get a pre purchase inspection and buy the cheap one.

No two used cars are the same, even if they started out identical.

Do you mean why say 1 Silverado is priced way higher than another identical Silverado? Usually that means one guy is smoking crack
