So many kids coming to r/footbag the past few weeks wondering where to buy footbags.
The trouble is, even the main footbag sellers like World Footbag, Bomb Footbags, and Dragonfly Footbags are literally one or two people operations.
Whatever is happening, teenagers literally bought out all the online footbag stock two weeks ago. There was nothing available.
New stock has been ordered by all the sellers, but it's taking time to restock and meet demand. All the kids are waiting for "new drops," like this is the sneaker hobby or something.
My kids' high school just sent out an email describing when and where hacky sacks are allowed during school hours. I laughed so hard when I read it because there was a nearly identically worded flyer sent home about this when I was their age 2.5 or so decades ago.
It's made it to my son's high school this spring. Some of his soccer and lacrosse teammates will play a bit before warm ups or after games. There's also a group of them that play pickleball during the evenings when tennis is using the courts. Some of the soccer boys will also send out a group chat to JV and varsity players for a pickup game or random skills 'practice' some weekends. It does feel good to know they all aren't just sitting on a gaming device or screen when not at school.
Having returned to school its been disappointing to see wide open fields of green grass perfectly manicured due to a lack of students throwing Frisbee's, circling around a guitar, or kicking a small bean filled ball around. Campus lawns have never had it so good.
Tbf, when we were doing it in the 90s it was just a redux of a 70s fad. A cool ex hippie teacher taught us about running them over with a car a couple times to break them in faster
I saw a group of kids kicking a hacky sack and was so happy. Walked over and chatted them up. Took a couple of kicks to remember that my lower back is no longer built for this.

It never stopped tbh. There has always been that stoner group in high achool who plays it and it hasn't changed.
insurancequestionguy@reddit
I didn't know they went away either. I'm a regular Millennial and remember boys playing with these into my teens too
Mall_of_slime@reddit
Lol. For real. And even when hacky sack was popular only like a couple dozen kids at school ever played.
OJSimpsonSubMod@reddit
I got a lot of good sewing practice ripping those things open and sewing um back up trying to find the just perfect amount of filling.
stevemmhmm@reddit
The kids will get turned off by the failure rate

I put this in the GenX sub yesterday on a post about hacky sack, so I'll repeat it here too:
Folklife Festival - Memorial day weekend - SeaTown - by the fountain - come join us!

These live in my work bag. Got 1 in my car always and a few more at home!

My boss has been in the prowl for weeks for his kids, can't find them.
Slim_Margins1999@reddit
Amazon has hundreds of bags. Tell him to get a Jester or Dirtbag

Can confirm.

What a weird time to be alive.
Slim_Margins1999@reddit
Amazon and eBay both have a treasure trove of sacs. I have like 6 in rotating around right now. Lol
tedsgloriousmustache@reddit
Seriously, the past 3 days I've seen 3 separate groups of teenage boys playing Hackey Sack in random parking lots. Now this. Beats social media.
jugdeesh@reddit
Me too! What the hell?
RangerFan80@reddit
We've had hacky sacks for years at my store, they've been an okay seller but now they're really flying off the shelves along with anything squishy.
Occams_AK47@reddit
Are koosh balls coming back??
RangerFan80@reddit
They're probably next!
ResurgentClusterfuck@reddit
It was decent exercise back in the day even if most of us smoked while we did it
If I tried to do that shit now I'd end up in the hospital
Puglet_7@reddit
I sent my bf a shopping link for them yesterday.
Devil sticks anyone??
smellslikebadussy@reddit
Where did you find them in stock? We can't find them anywhere.
Puglet_7@reddit
It was Amazon.
But I live in a small Mennonite town. The local pantry has had them for years for the kids.
Dazzling_Line_8482@reddit
My kids are totally into it right now - the reels that are making this popular are wild though. Totally different moves than what we used to do.

Nytimes lol

In my experience, there were exactly 2 groups of people who played hacky sack near me:
1) Stoners
2) Christians who wanted to seem less like a bigoted asshole.
Seeing as I have been/am currently part of both of those groups, I should go risk my knees and back and start kicking around a sack.
FittedSheets88@reddit
Such a fun throwback! 20ish years ago my brother and I got hacky sacks banned from our school for reasons similar to this video.
HipsterBikePolice@reddit
Heck yeah! My kid keeps talking about it. Also apparently there’s a hacky sack shortage lol. I can’t find a quality one anywhere
LightboxRadMD@reddit
There's also a Nee-Do shortage but that's because my 8-year-old has 5000 of them.

Fuck yeah! Great social game

So it’s funny how many new friends that lasted I made because of a hacky sack. It’s fun, keeps you agile and it can travel anywhere. Fun for everyone.
New generation, don’t be the guy who ruins every circle trying to practice foot stalls. Do that shit on your own time.
actionerror@reddit
What’s next? Sobe and Orbitz comeback?
koei19@reddit
Man I would love for the Pina Colada Sobe to come back
Wingkongexpress@reddit
I’m old. I read hairy sacks, and thought “been hairy stayed hairy” now I’m sad I’m not a trend setter.
GarciaWolf@reddit
I have one on my coffee table

They're recapturing our past. Soon, they will author their own future.
