Bro you absolutely did not see it properly cause there's no chance anyone is riding around on a two wheeled vehicle without a steering mechanism. It needs to be a unicycle for lean steering to be possible at lower than coasting speeds.
Having a rigid front wheel would not increase stability, it would make the vehicle harder to turn, and more likely to flip forward like a catapult if you ever bit a curb or pothole. Think about turning a carriage with a bad wheel. Now imagine that carriage was on two inline wheels instead of four, so you also have to hold it upright the whole time. Especially when an illegal E bike can make the same speeds for the same price or less than most of the EUCs on the market.
Right now, even if is theoretically possible to hit 93mph on a P6, the highest speed registered by a human riding one is 80mph in a race track. 90mph is the wind in a CAT5 hurricane. Very hard to stay standing on it.
That thing has suspension and a 22" tire. Unless you hit a crater it doesn't have problems handling potholes, rocks, tree roots or else. Lot of riders use them offroad no problem on MTB paths.
On the street you just avoid tailgating and should have all the time in the world to avoid hitting a pothole, but to do that is required to have a functioning brain. It's not something every road user have.
I switched to e-bikes, but the last one I bought could do 35mph. That's 10mph than I was comfortable riding, but I liked the safety margin since at the beginning the most common injury was overpowering them by leaning too far forward and faceplanting.
No, EUCs fall under a gray area where they aren't illegal. Heck, I think a lot of riders would welcome licensing just so they don't have to worry about what mood a cop is in.
It's basically because it's essentially just a big wheel and a huge motor + battery. The incredibly compact form factor allows it to cram an incredible amount of power while still maintaining relatively low weight and portability.
Yeah - because they can be dangerous as hell. I broke both my arms on mine after over a year of riding, not a newbie mistake but an enthusiast pushing limits of the machines.
After 3 months I was functional enough to cook, clean, drive to physical therapy appointments, etc… but “heal” is a longer process. It’s been a year and a half now, I’d consider it healed, but my left wrist (not pictured in that X-ray) is still not as strong or mobile as it was, and will never be.
For whatever reason these things aren’t being attacked by the public like emotos even tho they are just as fast, something about 2 wheels being able to go fast really stirs people up.
Gear is ABSOLUTELY NEEDED for this even if you go 25-30. If you fall, you're less likely to catch your balance and will go face or back first into the pavement. My ebike goes 35+ and I will not go anywhere without full gear when I ride. I wear full face helmet and pads because I did wreck one time into a metalcatch fence to avoid hitting someone who pulled out in front of me who wasn't paying attention. I was scarred up about a week and couldn't move a couple days. Since then, I never go anywhere in less than 4 wheels without full gear. I'd rather not chance it
Yeah, because this thing makes motorcycles look like sitting in a bomb shelter and literally never so much as looking outside. The only form of transportation that requires more protective gear to use safely than one of these things is a rocket- and even then, I'd sooner take my chances with a Boeing Starliner than this.
They treat if like its more dangerous because it is. You have to lean forward to move and if anything goes wrong you are going straight into the ground, trees, cars, what ever is around you and skidding or rolling to a stop or you hit something that makes you stop.
Actually - it's not 100% true. You could do that, and get away with no issues.
Most unicycles allows you to lean forward in "superman" posture, and ride fun, you also could lean too much backwards to stop, also with no issues.
For example - guys hitting 60+mph https://youtu.be/3P1Ymt2xsz4?t=259
He's still leaning forward and if something goes wrong your skidding rolling or thudding into something if not a combo of those. Having that happen while seated leaning forward may be worse cause your that much closer to faceplant.
I wouldn't say that. I've seen footage of EUC riders crashing at surprisingly high speeds (albeit sub-highway) and getting up afterward. If you're properly armored, the greatest danger is hitting a car, tree, or pole.
Like a month ago my wife and I were getting home and saw a girl in like full prom dress and no gear going down our street on one. Startled the hell out of us.
The only person in danger is the person on the device. I’m just not sure how to explain to people that the exoskeleton of cars protect more than hurt; so I won’t.
Y’all go ahead and be organ donors. Ain’t no sweat from me.
Yep was going to say glad to see him taking the safety risks seriously. I have dummies pass me on my bike on these things going at least 35. You hit the pavement at that speed it’s gonna be baaaaaaaad. Co-worker of mine cracked his facial bones from scooter accident.
I saw a yt short a couple if days ago with 2 guys on a mountain bike kinda trail doing jumps and stuff on these... Looked kinda fun (until the guy bailed on a drop)
It really is. The range, speed, and terrain versatility of a Surron, the portability of an eskate. And for just about the same price point, too. (Honestly a lot of EUCs blow the speed of a Surron out of the water)
Yeah, full motorcycle gear is a must on one of those. The acceleration is absolutely insane, watch some videos of EUCs doing like 0-60 acceleration and you'll see how they basically turn into superman haha.
I have seen them in person. I have a few friends who ride them. I definitely get the appeal… but I’ll stick with my electric skateboard and motorcycle for now 😂
Makes sense haha, I'd love to see one in person and I might try to find a cheaper one on marketplace to get. You only live once, best to have all the fun you can lol
Sorry I really thought it had two wheels. I’ll try to find more photos that I took. I’m really not trying to rage bait. I know what an EUC is. The only reason in posted was because I thought it had two and I had never seen that before.
Is this a joke? Sometimes I wonder how many of these posts are just from Reddit themselves with fake accounts just to drive activity in the comments by making absurd claims.
As with many other things, it depends on how you ride. They do have some risks that bikes don't have, (the worst one being that if they fail while you're riding you face plant), but by the time I bought my last one several years ago, they were very very reliable. I would consider them to be much more safe than scooters because the big wheels are much better at taking potholes, plus your hands are free and it's easy to jump out if needed.
That said, the new ones go way too fast (My comfortable speed was about 20 to 25 mph on the streets, a lot of the new ones go like 90). However you don't have to buy the top end ones, I actually preferred the little ones because they were more practical, and you don't want to ride them at close to max speed anyway, just like with cars.
It looks quite practical to me - or at least a smaller, lighter version of that one. I could take it on the bus, store in in my apartment, put it in my office, etc.
I saw one with a telescoping handle, so the owner could pull it around like a suitcase.
Crazy that no one would complain about someone going down a road going 40mph on one of these, but they’d lose their minds if it were an e-bike or e-moto.
Man i can ride two wheels all day but this motorized unicycle shit is a bridge too far for me, ill just go play vr in the middle of i95 instead at that point
You are saying this as a joke but it is usually the best thing to do on these or E scooters. Yes you can brace yourself but even if you are properly protected the force of the impact on your arms and legs is enough to break all kinds of stuff. Rolling you kind of use the momentum and slow down that initial impact.
False. My neighbor would have said the same thing at one time until he woke up in the ER not knowing where he is nor remembering how he got there. Broke his neck but luckily no permanent nerve damage.
Should I provide an example of someone who got paralyzed riding normal bike (not even talking about an ebike which is more dangerous)? No matter what you ride, pushing the limits can lead to negative consequences. If you know the limits of the euc (speed, traction, wobbles) it can be avoided, also skill plays huge role. Dude on the image is riding an inmotion p6 which can go up to 90 mph.
I mean yes. You can get injured doing anything, from riding a bike to walking down the street.
The difference is how the device works. If you lose power on a bike, you just… coast and brake. If you lose power or gyro control on an EUC, you’re going into the pavement/dirt. No questions.
Do I love my EUC and do I think it’s the top tier of the PEV world? I do. I very much do. Do I think they’re safe? I mean relative to the other PEVs? No.
If you lose power on a bike, you just… coast and brake. If you lose power or gyro control on an EUC, you’re going into the pavement/dirt. No questions.
This right here is the terrifying part for me. As I understand it, EUCs are effectively fail-deadly, combined with a near-total lack of regulation and training. You're trusting your life to a microcontroller that I guarantee was sourced from the lowest bidder.
Yeah, but these are very very rare cases (usually happens with new wheels that are not properly tested. Hello Begode). Tell mw what else is not safe relative to other PEVs?
Literally every electric unicycle rider says the exact same story, where they spend the first half vehemently defending them saying they're not dangerous and it could never happen to them.
Then they wreck a single time and break half the bones in their body and say they can't ever ride it again
If you ride like an idiot then you will eventually break your bones, it applies to ebikes as well. It's just funny how delusional people are on this subbredit and will hate other (better imo) ways of transportation. Difference between me and people here is that I've tried both and euc is far more superior than ebikes if you know your limits and ride safely.
It's delusional to think that EUC is superior to any other electric vehicle in anything but size factor, especially in the same price range. The only reason they're popular now is because they circumvent the e-bike laws in some countries where a vehicle/bike is defined as having two or more wheels.
No real brakes but slows down better than escooters and ebikes (tested). Better in size factor, range (per kg), more maneuverable, hands free, more power.
Yeah solid brakes but I’m not buying it. You can immediately shift weight onto your front tire to counteract your body’s inertia. Not to mention panic breaking is sub second if you’re riding with your hands on the levers. No shifting your weight forward to initiate the stop.
I talked to a guy who was riding one. He said it definitely requires practice to learn and he recommended doing it on a hard surface (like grass).
Regarding danger, the balance looks tricky, but not excessively difficult. I wouldn't feel safe at high speeds and I would be concerned about how reliable the tilt sensors and control electronics were. I could imagine some pretty nasty failure modes. For example, if the thing took off at full power, I would rather fall off at 15 MPH than at 50 MPH.
The safest motorcyclists still become pavement all the time. The good news is that when you become a vegetable you still won’t be aware of how unsafe it was. Because …🥕🥒🥦🧠
Brother literally EVERY EUC rider thinks they "know how to ride safely" before they wreck. But you are not always the one who gets to decide that, all it takes is a single person pulling out in front of you and it's completely over, and it's far more likely to happen (and happen badly) on EUC than even a bicycle
(better imo) ways of transportation
Also better how lmao, you have zero cargo carrying capacity, worse brakes, far less safety, get zero exercise etc
My favorite commuter, fits nicely in my office closet compared to locking up the ebike and we all don't ride over 20+ mph. It takes a lot of skill to ride due to the air resistance & speed wobbles
Hahaha, that's so cool! I know it might be kinda dangerous (or maybe a lot dangerous lol) but I still really wanna give it a shot. Honestly, I think it's actually gonna make me look forward to going to work, ahah?
Unlikely. That wheel is like 5 grand and he's got a other grand in gear and accessories. These are a lot more popular with older dads who have cash like that for crazy hobbies
Surprised to see the EUC hate in this thread.
We (euc and ebike) are of the same blood, the same family!
Our communities often ride together.
The EUC is the most efficient and fun way to get around town. Nothing else compares. Some do go fast, yes, but you don't have to go fast, that's a personal choice. I think they do tend to entice risk seekers, in the same way that ebikes often do. But again, personal choice.
As someone obsessed with micromobility, I can say unequivocally that the EUC forever changed my life. It's just that good.
So was my buddy when he got into a motorcycle wreck because another car hit him. It doesn’t matter how much you prepare or how armored you are. He still died all the same, left behind a new baby. He’s just the most recent. As you age you lose your friends who insist this shit is all safer than whatever.
Keep telling yourself this is safe. It never will be, but keep telling yourself that.
Riding any open design on the road is inherently riskier, it's true. It's just that the people who suggest an EUC is automatically a death trap don't know how they work.
I mean, looking at it from the perspective of someone who has never ridden one (but who does ride a motorcycle) it does seem inherently more dangerous than other (already admittedly risky) vehicles for the simple reason that if the engine on my bike fails, the worst that will happen is I get stuck on the side of the road, not hurled into it.
Oh yeah, that's a concern - but EUCs are engineered with a lot of safety measures to improve the odds, like smart BMS systems, high-volume alarms, and forced tiltback. Cutouts still happen, but usually if someone is pushing their wheel to the limit and not paying attention.
It's called an attention whore, they live off of the attention of others, bad or good, makes no difference to them. I believe this one is riding a "mono wheel" which is basically an electric unicycle.
As others have said an electric unicycle. The power levels are typically an order of magnitude greater than e-bikes. Basically a onewheel with more power and arguably better geometry, ergonomics, and potentially safety. Said differently, it’s basically a onewheel with emoto levels of power. Think of an over powered Segway with one wheel instead of two. My neighbor has one that is almost 100 lbs and can go 60+ mph for 60+ miles. I prefer it over my onewheel+xr, but not my ebike.
I’m not sure about the safety aspect. These guys keep getting cleaned out in San Francisco because it takes a lot longer to react than other modes of transportation
That depends on where you live. Where I live (US-WA), they are classified as "Electric personal assistive mobility device (EPAMD)" and they are limited to 2,000 Watts and 20 MPH.
I see them regularly on the bike paths. Anecdotally, the riders seem to be much more careful that riders of illegal e-motos. Maybe that is because they need more skill and experience to ride them.
Strict enforcement of the laws on non-motorized paths cannot come soon enough, in my opinion. When pedestrians and bicyclists do not feel safe on the non-motorized paths because of careless riders on fast/powerful motorized vehicles, then micro-mobility as a whole suffers.
Guessing they're not street legal. No turn signals, brake (break) lights, headlights. Perhaps build them into an exoskeletal bodysuit? With "DO NO RESUSCITATE" in front and back.
My brother used to have an "Air Wheel" it was a fun little toy for cruising around the sea front and getting looks from people but it was useless on anything that wasn't tarmac.
Modern iterations seem to have the torque to hit a good cross country trail and even get some air, cool but definitely not something I'm into.
So much Fair put in a little ole electric wheel , Man made overseas and tested by a smaller body frame race . I'm pretty sure there's no more failure points 😂😭🤣💯😁. Thanks 4 sharing entertainment

I have an electric skateboard and considered an EUC but can’t get over the fact that when they crash it is usually face first.
Unusual-Scarcity6536@reddit
Yeah, full motorcycle gear is a must on one of those. The acceleration is absolutely insane, watch some videos of EUCs doing like 0-60 acceleration and you'll see how they basically turn into superman haha.
V7KTR@reddit
I have seen them in person. I have a few friends who ride them. I definitely get the appeal… but I’ll stick with my electric skateboard and motorcycle for now 😂
Unusual-Scarcity6536@reddit

It obviously doesn’t have a front wheel, an EUC uses an IMU to maintain level when riding.
BodSmith54321@reddit (OP)
Sorry I really thought it had two wheels. I’ll try to find more photos that I took. I’m really not trying to rage bait. I know what an EUC is. The only reason in posted was because I thought it had two and I had never seen that before.
CA_MA@reddit
Unless it's articulated something like an old snake board, no. Geometry says the vehicle in the image has 1 wheel.

Noisycarlos@reddit
I enjoyed mine. Switched to e-bikes because I wanted to force myself to exercise (and also because changing flat tires on EUCs is a big pain).
But EUCs can definitely be more practical, especially smaller ones that you can just roll into places like luggage.
BoringBob84@reddit
It looks quite practical to me - or at least a smaller, lighter version of that one. I could take it on the bus, store in in my apartment, put it in my office, etc.
I saw one with a telescoping handle, so the owner could pull it around like a suitcase.
SadisticPawz@reddit
I think some of them remain ON in suitcase mode. Still self balancing without a rider.

Dangerous
Scuttling-Claws@reddit
Simultaneously fun, stupid and incredibly dangerous
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
False, it is not as dangerous as people think. I am an EUC rider and after 10k miles I have no injuries. It is very safe.
Wossor@reddit
False. My neighbor would have said the same thing at one time until he woke up in the ER not knowing where he is nor remembering how he got there. Broke his neck but luckily no permanent nerve damage.
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
Should I provide an example of someone who got paralyzed riding normal bike (not even talking about an ebike which is more dangerous)? No matter what you ride, pushing the limits can lead to negative consequences. If you know the limits of the euc (speed, traction, wobbles) it can be avoided, also skill plays huge role. Dude on the image is riding an inmotion p6 which can go up to 90 mph.
Cpnbro@reddit
No.
CavalierPumpkin@reddit
This right here is the terrifying part for me. As I understand it, EUCs are effectively fail-deadly, combined with a near-total lack of regulation and training. You're trusting your life to a microcontroller that I guarantee was sourced from the lowest bidder.
Lucidlie@reddit
This is why majority of the riders do wear full gear all the time. Compared to the less geared pev folks, looking at you scooter section.
KaboodleMoon@reddit
And most of the scooter and bike people going 40+ should be in full gear too, to be fair.
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
Yeah, but these are very very rare cases (usually happens with new wheels that are not properly tested. Hello Begode). Tell mw what else is not safe relative to other PEVs?
funcentric@reddit
Not all riders respect the device in the same way.
YobaiYamete@reddit
Literally every electric unicycle rider says the exact same story, where they spend the first half vehemently defending them saying they're not dangerous and it could never happen to them.
Then they wreck a single time and break half the bones in their body and say they can't ever ride it again
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
If you ride like an idiot then you will eventually break your bones, it applies to ebikes as well. It's just funny how delusional people are on this subbredit and will hate other (better imo) ways of transportation. Difference between me and people here is that I've tried both and euc is far more superior than ebikes if you know your limits and ride safely.
Shit_On_Wheels@reddit
It's delusional to think that EUC is superior to any other electric vehicle in anything but size factor, especially in the same price range. The only reason they're popular now is because they circumvent the e-bike laws in some countries where a vehicle/bike is defined as having two or more wheels.
Also no real brakes lmao.
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
No real brakes but slows down better than escooters and ebikes (tested). Better in size factor, range (per kg), more maneuverable, hands free, more power.
Kubernoodles@reddit
Brakes better than an ebike?! Lololololol dude what’d you compare it to, a bike without brakes?
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
Magura mt5 i have on my bike
Kubernoodles@reddit
Yeah solid brakes but I’m not buying it. You can immediately shift weight onto your front tire to counteract your body’s inertia. Not to mention panic breaking is sub second if you’re riding with your hands on the levers. No shifting your weight forward to initiate the stop.
Littlebotweak@reddit
🥕🧠🥗🧠🥒🧠🥦🧠
BoringBob84@reddit
An EUC looks fun and practical to me, but it has some disadvantages in comparison to an ebike:
Cannot carry cargo.
No benefit of exercise.
Hour-Employment7501@reddit
For sure, I am not saying that it doesn't have disadvantages, I just disagree that it is unsafe.
BoringBob84@reddit
I talked to a guy who was riding one. He said it definitely requires practice to learn and he recommended doing it on a hard surface (like grass).
Regarding danger, the balance looks tricky, but not excessively difficult. I wouldn't feel safe at high speeds and I would be concerned about how reliable the tilt sensors and control electronics were. I could imagine some pretty nasty failure modes. For example, if the thing took off at full power, I would rather fall off at 15 MPH than at 50 MPH.
Littlebotweak@reddit
The safest motorcyclists still become pavement all the time. The good news is that when you become a vegetable you still won’t be aware of how unsafe it was. Because …🥕🥒🥦🧠
YobaiYamete@reddit
Brother literally EVERY EUC rider thinks they "know how to ride safely" before they wreck. But you are not always the one who gets to decide that, all it takes is a single person pulling out in front of you and it's completely over, and it's far more likely to happen (and happen badly) on EUC than even a bicycle
Also better how lmao, you have zero cargo carrying capacity, worse brakes, far less safety, get zero exercise etc
It's only better in that it's faster
Littlebotweak@reddit
I assure you it’s as dangerous as we think. Your anecdote doesn’t do shit but make you feel better, lol.
Hey, congrats to whoever needs your spleen, though, champ.

Nihiliste@reddit
Riding any open design on the road is inherently riskier, it's true. It's just that the people who suggest an EUC is automatically a death trap don't know how they work.
CavalierPumpkin@reddit
I mean, looking at it from the perspective of someone who has never ridden one (but who does ride a motorcycle) it does seem inherently more dangerous than other (already admittedly risky) vehicles for the simple reason that if the engine on my bike fails, the worst that will happen is I get stuck on the side of the road, not hurled into it.
Nihiliste@reddit
Oh yeah, that's a concern - but EUCs are engineered with a lot of safety measures to improve the odds, like smart BMS systems, high-volume alarms, and forced tiltback. Cutouts still happen, but usually if someone is pushing their wheel to the limit and not paying attention.

BoringBob84@reddit
That depends on where you live. Where I live (US-WA), they are classified as "Electric personal assistive mobility device (EPAMD)" and they are limited to 2,000 Watts and 20 MPH.
I see them regularly on the bike paths. Anecdotally, the riders seem to be much more careful that riders of illegal e-motos. Maybe that is because they need more skill and experience to ride them.
Silver_BackYWG@reddit
20 mph ? Thanks for the laff, they go much faster than that in my experience.
BoringBob84@reddit
I understand. Many of them do.
Strict enforcement of the laws on non-motorized paths cannot come soon enough, in my opinion. When pedestrians and bicyclists do not feel safe on the non-motorized paths because of careless riders on fast/powerful motorized vehicles, then micro-mobility as a whole suffers.
