Telling Time

So I’m staying in a hotel for work, I love having it pitch black, cold and white noise from the AC. Why is there no good old digital alarm clock??? Yes I know people use their phones as alarm clocks these days BUT I just want to pop one eye open in the middle of the night when I wake up to see how many more hours of sleep I have. Having to grab my phone is too much activity when I just want to 👀the time.

I have a business trip coming up so I’ll have to watch out for this. If hotels are getting rid of alarm clocks it might mean a slight resurgence in the market for travel alarm clocks like the ones the gadget companies used to make.
Ironically, one of the last business trips I had before the pandemic lockdowns, the hotel room had an alarm clock. And it worked. Whoever has the room before me left it set for some awful hour like 0300 and I didn’t notice. It went off. I did NOT need that on my first night after a long day of travel and work. I don’t know if that was by accident or malicious to screw with the room’s next occupant but ever since if the hotel room has an alarm clock, I make sure it’s not set before going to bed.

Have you tried the iPhone standby mode? Comes with iOS. No app needed

Yeah this is what I use at home and away. When traveling I just put it on charge and prop up my phone against the lamp or something. Instant nightstand clock.

Yep, was in a hotel not long ago and was thinking the same thing. I hate having to fumble around for my phone to see what time it is.

Best clock humanity ever made. Doesn’t light the whole damn room up and alarm so loud it’ll wake up the dead.

This has to be one of the most successful products in history. Everyone had it

Plus, there is a certain charm to those old alarm clocks that smart phones just cannot match.

Twilight app by Petr Nàlevka (Urbandroid). Applies a red filter to your screen. Good for preserving night vision.
