I just recently built a pc myself which I’m super excited and proud of!! With subnautica 2 releasing today, some questions arose in my mind: what if my GPU cant handle it? Right now i have a
GTX 1080 Ti on a msi pro b550 vc-wifi MOBO And a ryzen 5500. What GPU can i realistically aim for that wont murder my bank account but still be able to hold up in coming games?

Upgrade you CPU. A 5600x or 5800x & then get a 3070ti

The 1080 Ti is still pretty solid for 1080p gaming, even today. For a budget upgrade that won't bottleneck your Ryzen 5500, the RX 6600 is around $200 and handles most modern games well. If you can stretch to $250-280, the RX 7600 or RTX 4060 are great options - the 4060 gives you DLSS 3 frame gen which helps a lot in newer titles. Your B550 board and Ryzen 5500 will handle any of these just fine, so no need to upgrade the whole system.

Minimum 1080p b580/5060 300-350$ Minimum 1440p 9060xt 16gb 400-450$

but his cpu with the b580, and why not just get a 3080 for 1080p for $300?

Im not telling him to get anything just telling him the possible options he could get for respective resolutions. A 3080 is viable, but i wouldnt buy a 30 series gpu which is approaching 6 years of age and has worse dlss 4.5 scaling, also considering how hot gddr6x memory was and it went through a mining boom, you are getting a below average deal even for 300$. If u want 3080 performance just get a 9060xt and OC it.

This might be a dumb question but what does the b580 mean?
