Thinking about quitting(socal)

Just need some solid updated advice on the goals that I’m trying to get to and would appreciate some answers so I can decide if on the right path.
At a mega right now but eventually want to know what I’m looking for exist or did I pick the wrong career.
Goals
- 40 hour work week(50 max)
- Local(don’t care if it’s day or nights)
- 80-100k within 3-6 years
- Home daily
- Good benefits & pension/401k plan
- No to light physical labor
Am I being realistic with these requirements in today’s market?
Thanks in advance

Garbage truck

Linehaul or fuel hauling is your best bet. 50 - 60 hour work week for that 100k plus though. Come on now ... 40 hour work week? 100k? Trucking? That doesnt make sense.
Suspicious-Juice-798@reddit
Your goals are definitely realistic but might take some patience to get there - LTL companies usually hit those numbers but they're picky about who they hire and when they're hiring
Patient-Net3354@reddit (OP)
Anyway how to seek out the good LTL companies other than indeed?
Difficult_Chemical_6@reddit
Top LTL companies are Estes, Saia, Old Dominion, AAA Cooper, ABF, TForce, R&L, Central Transport. Linehaul pays 80-100k starting. Being in socal you have plenty opportunity because there’s multiple yards for each company. Usually one in each county

Getting a choice linehaul run in 3-6 years is gonna be damn near impossible. I got several buddies that have been at it 8+ and are just now getting to bid on runs. The money is definitely there.
LastMongoose7448@reddit
Depends on the terminal. Big hubs, yeah. Small, end-of-line, you get great hours and runs right away.

Also XPO

Go to their yard/office and fill out an application

I’m in Los Angeles I never went to a mega always local making 100k a years. California is one of the best states for trucking. The problem is most LTL companies don’t care if you been driving for 30 years over the road they will hire someone with local experience always before. You need to get out there asap don’t waste your time

So you want an easy job with no physical labor, 40 hours a week and $100k? Haha good luck my man. I do food service $100k+ 4days a week 50+ hours.
Patient-Net3354@reddit (OP)
I said no to light labor but 4 day work week doesn’t sound bad so would make a compromise. They hiring? Or any company similar?
GabtsbyForaDay@reddit
Buddy is at sysco and he only works 4 days but he does the full 14 hour shifts. Think he said after taxes is about 1700.
Cardinal_350@reddit
Just look into food service companies that service LARGE chains.

I haul groceries and my job checks all those boxes except for the hours. We can work 40 hours in the winter no problem, but it gets very busy in the summer with a lot of forced OT.
Outrageous-Trip-7376@reddit
Yes u are , I’m at 80k , local , 40-45 hours a week , very light touch
Outrageous-Trip-7376@reddit
But took me a year and some change to find it
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
I had 3 local jobs. One I worked max 40 hours a week, the other 2 were up to 55 hours a week. One paid $22/hr, one was $25/hr and one was $27.50/hr. 2 of them had flexible schedules if I couldn't make it into work. One had a 4 day work week. All of them required physical to hard physical labor. Benefits sucked for all of them. None of them made over $60k/year gross.
I've talked with fuel hauling guys from different companies and you can work 50-70 hours a week depending on the company and also how hard you want to run daily from what they told me and they all made $30+/hr, easily passing $60k/year gross towards $100k/year gross. Light physical labor. Great benefits too. You typically start on night shift though.
Adept-Discussion3162@reddit
Only 22/hr??? Even 27/hr? Suks bro you driving 18 wheels or what?
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
22 was box truck, 25 was moffett with 35ft trailer, 27.50 was CDL Instructor. Now I'm back OTR hauling a 53 foot low pro tire step deck
Adept-Discussion3162@reddit
Ah i see makes sense now...gor semi trailer got to be 30/hr anything less it suks
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
Exactly. I saw lowboy hravy equipment jobs in my area paying $27/hr tops, fuck that lol I didn't get a CDL to make less than a manager at Buccees
Patient-Net3354@reddit (OP)
This sound good! Was this in CA and can you remember any of the fueling companies? Don’t care about night shifts(I would actually prefer it less traffic)
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
Not all of them but one was Gemini, but good luck, they're not always hiring with how long people stay at those jobs.
chocolate_asshole@reddit
you’re not crazy, that’s pretty much the classic ltl / linehaul / fuel / trash company endgame. key is put in a couple years clean record at the mega, then hunt union or big private fleet. pay is there, but finding a good local spot is a grind
Patient-Net3354@reddit (OP)
It’s gotta be 2 years? Nothing that can be had at 6 months to a year?
