See, this is why I don't rate Reuters. A truly professional report should've highlighted the format of the addition (was it a 3rd daily?), if they were temporary additions (e.g. on certain dates in April, Cathay likely operated 7 flights a day to LHR) and from where in India are they capturing this business. Not just "up 19%" because that's cherry-picking the most sensational figure that wouldn't get Reuters into trouble for sensationalism.
If you're a true aviation geek, you know Cathay's core strategy is constant expansion and it's also multiple flights a day, as much as possible. Like at least 3, preferably 4 or 5. That's been their business model for a very long time. Pre-covid Cathay had 4 a day to JFK (plus EWR), 5 a day to LHR (plus LGW), 4 a day to KUL, possibly 4-5 a day to both NRT and HND, to say nothing of TPE or MNL. And those were all widebodies.
Even at the claimed "up 19%" YoY, they don't seem to be at this level to any of the major Indian cities. DEL is 2 a day and that's the max. BOM is only at almost twice a day. So yeah, Reuters could've been clearer.

Air India's thousands of flight cuts due to the Iran war and Pakistan's airspace ban have become a boon for foreign carriers, with Lufthansa Group (LHAG.DE), opens new tab and Cathay Pacific (0293.HK), opens new tab among those adding services to one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets.
With their Middle Eastern routes curtailed and some passengers wary of connecting in the conflict-hit Gulf, India has become more attractive for international airlines looking to capitalise on strong demand for flights from South Asia to Europe and North America that has led to higher airfares.
