Upgrading to R7 9800X3D

Current build is a

R5 5500

Rtx 2070 super

16gb ddr4

And just got an insane deal on a 9800x3d

Picked up a b850 motherboard

And just wanting to know what’s the best ram I can use for this cpu/mobo combo

I know I’ll have to upgrade the gpu as well

Any 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30-CL36 kit from a reputable brand, such as Corsair, G.Skill, Crucial, or Kingston. It’s all the same three OEM manufacturers anyway!

Thanks, will it matter if it’s cl30 up to cl36? I was told try for cl30-cl32 and expo ready ram like Corsair not the intel xmp versions

I think you’ll be fine with up to CL36. But yes, 30 and 32 are slightly faster.

CL30 is hypothetically slightly faster, but you'll literally never notice the difference. The extra L3 cache of the X3D CPUs means they don't care as much about latency.

grab something with good timings like cl28-30 though, loose timings can tank performance on ryzen 7000 series worse than you'd think.

For your Ryzen 7 9800X3D + B850 combo, the sweet spot is DDR5 at 6000–6400 MHz with tight timings (CL28–CL30). Kits like G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo or Corsair Vengeance DDR5 are widely recommended for stability and performance.
