Allegiant Air and Sun Country complete merger, creating larger budget airline for travelers

I’m eager to see where this merger goes!
Chinpokomonnnn@reddit
I don’t see this benefiting Minnesota at all.
RecordEnvironmental4@reddit
Given that spirit just went bankrupt and sun country and allegiant are both smaller than spirit was it’s very possible they could have gone bankrupt without a merger
YOURE_GONNA_HATE_ME@reddit
The airline size is irrelevant as long as they’re profitable. Allegiant especially is doing well.
Airkoryo_@reddit
I promise you Allegiant was nowhere closer to bankruptcy prior to the announcement of this merger. Cannot speak to Sun Country.

I'm from the other side of the Atlantic, what is the link between these airlines and Minnesota?
uresmane@reddit
Nope, all the jobs will leave just like when Delta bought Northwest.

Cool now bring the MD-80 back into service
Shodapop@reddit
Please no, I deal with enough md80 freighters at work
njsullyalex@reddit
Lucky, I'm jealous
Shodapop@reddit
Eh it depends on what freight is on the plane and how much there is. We mainly deal with USAJet and TSM and they both have their things I like and dislike. TSM uses straps for the freight so theyre easy to take care of, usa uses actual nets and you have to make sure theyre put away just right.
njsullyalex@reddit
Do you work at Willow Run? El Paso?
Shodapop@reddit
IND, we havent had any for a while but we've definitely had times where we had one or two a day for an entire week
njsullyalex@reddit
Wonder if they are being contracted to fill in for the MD-11s for FedEx. Though I know TSM and USA Jet typically fly car parts charters.
Do you ever get DC-9s from TSM or 727s from USA Jet? Those are super rare these days.
Shodapop@reddit
Yea once in a while we'll get a dc9 or a 727. Usa jet doesn't use the built in stairs at all sadly. Once in a blue moon we'll have an IFL 727 and they use the rear stairs so thats fun
njsullyalex@reddit
Wasted potential on both the MD-80 and 727 not to use the rear stairs! That's one of the best features in both planes!
Lucky! I haven't seen an MD-80 or 727 flying since 2023 when I moved out of Tucson AZ.
TeeDub27@reddit
Yes, and the Dash 8 and BAE-146/Avro
Far_Breakfast_5808@reddit
Dash 8s are still a common sight over in Canada.
av8geek@reddit
That's the Spirit!
Oh... Too soon?
BrewCityChaserV2@reddit
A fleet of 757s and MD-80s with a newly merged airline duo? Sign me up! Oh wait it's a stock photo from 2013. (Editors really can't find any more current photos of planes?)
NewHope13@reddit
That’s awesome

I feel like there’s some good and some bad. It’s going to be a loss for the Midwest, but at the same time, it could potentially fill the void that Spirit has left for budget travelers.
