Ice cream exports, relatively high HDI, super high birth rate, extremely large reserves of valuable minerals, oil and gas, baikonur cosmodrome...
I'm calling it now- we are in the Kazakh century

I'm glad we have at least one prosperous nation without major issues.

Corporations and Strong-Man dictatorship? Or is there more to it than the central Asian classic?

Out of control inflation, world leader in suicide and drug addiction. Conscription that leaves young men under conditions of intense physical abuse, state crowing out investment, bank and retailers doing price fixing agreement causing consumer prices to jump to European levels, anti-corruption agency being absorbed by the Kazakh KGB....

Their previous dictatorship under Nursultan Nassarbayev was infinitely worse and far more in line with the other Stans (going so far as renaming Astana to Nur-Sultan...). Tokayev is a kind of transitional leader of sorts, actually caring about optics. The Kazakhs also balance China, Russia, Europe, and the US to an incredible degree where none of those powers truly dominate the country and they sell to all of them. It's a really, really interesting country
