What are some practices or objects that you've seen in other countries that you've applied to your personal life in America?

Boiling eggs in mayo and pickle juice with a dash of sawdust.

Explain

Wife is Filipino, I no longer use toilet paper. Water and soap is way cleaner.
Neat_Shallot_606@reddit
Soap. Like soap with your bidet?
marinelifelover@reddit
That’s what I’m wondering. I have a bidet. But I also knew an Filipino American who would shower after bowel movements.
marinelifelover@reddit
So you shower each time you poop?
comfy_rope@reddit
I know bidets and washlets are all the rage, but (butt) using a shower wand with your hole hanging over the wall tub works too
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
That's so much work, and the shower curtain picks up solids....
comfy_rope@reddit
The curtain doesn’t HAVE to be in the tub. 😆
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
Sure! Butt* the bacteria isn't so hard to get rid of!
comfy_rope@reddit
Don’t poop, then. 🤷🏻♂️
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I happily have a bidet! Poop goes in poop zone at home. I'm fine with just showering when traveling in paces that so not care about water conservation or cleanliness though

Furoshiki, instead of gift wrap, tote bags, or lunch boxes.
Silk ribbons instead of elastic for securing braids, and hair sticks or french pins to secure a bun.

Various British accents — my partner and I both, quite often. Comes mostly from Monty Python and Suzy Eddie Izzard.
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I have the same halfish accent because of Keeping Up Appearances etc.

Korea got me using stainless steel dishes and utensils for everything. I love it. Super durable, don’t absorb smells or stains, easy to clean. I look like I’m eating in a Korean high school cafeteria everyday lol
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
How about the kitchen shears! Siccors forever

Sauna “culture.” It’s more than having seen it, it’s how I grew up, but it’s something that stands out as different outside of my home state of Minnesota or more accurately “the north woods” of the u.s.
I know tons of people that have saunas, many of them are over 50 yrs old. The saunas I mean, okay some of the people too. I’m currently saving up for one because I refuse to live any more of my life (in California) without one. It’s the only place I can truly meditate. It’s weirdly important to me. Lol, and I wish I could share it with others, but nobody else I know is into it at all… and those that do are bottom benchers. Eh. So I’ll do it solo. I enjoy the quiet anyway.

Chopsticks are the ultimate cooking tool. You need to get the long ones made for cooking with.
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I use in this order knife, chopsticks, spoon, tongs, and a spatula
Everything else is dumb.
Significant-Track797@reddit
Two duvets. Thank you Sweden for that one.
murdermeMickey@reddit
Can you explain this?
Significant-Track797@reddit
My partner and I each have our own duvet to sleep at night. Apparently it’s common practice in Scandinavian countries.
Neat_Shallot_606@reddit
Or just blankets and top sheets.
My hubby likes top sheet and blanket. I like duvets. It has worked beautifully.
Sudden_Bid_1776@reddit
I'm still trying to convince my partner to do this😭
Neat_Shallot_606@reddit
Just do it. It will take them forever to figure it out especially if they are the same color.

Drinking hot water. Spent a few weeks in Hong Kong and they drink hot water with every meal, supposedly good for digestion. If I am out an about, I'll have a water bottle of cold or room temp water, but with a meal I like to heat up some water. My wife thinks I'm crazy.
SevereAnimator5@reddit
On a 95 degree day with suffocating humidity. No thank you
Coldfyre_Dusty@reddit
Ever been to Hong Kong? 95 degrees and suffocating humidity is pretty standard XD
But yeah I get it. I'm gonna enjoy it if I'm in a nice air conditioned environment, but not like I'm drinking steaming hot water on the porch in the middle of summer.
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I love hot water! It's just nice.

It's not uncommon in the USA, but shoes off inside always, even for guests, is still seen as a whole 'deal'
National-Pressure202@reddit
I’m a shoes off household, in the US…. But I’m also a germaphobe…. So…. there’s that
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I'm not at all, but outside has poop and gross goo. I am happy to play in dirt and can even clean up grossness, but that's never coming into my home! Shoes OFF. "Oh I'm an office worker-" is the subway your office? Is the lawn that does piss on your office? Nooo????
Shoes. Off.
chesydn@reddit
i’m as far from a germaphobe as you can get, and shoes off in the house and washing my feet before bed are non-negotiables.

Rice with breakfast is great, love simple eggs and rice
C21H27Cl3N2O3@reddit
Salting rice is great too. Salted riceballs are a staple in Japan. I grew up eating rice with butter, but salting it gives me the same flavor and satisfaction as adding butter but is much healthier. A bowl of salted rice with some eggs on top is an A+ meal, whether it’s for breakfast or because I’m exhausted after work and want something that is simple to cook. Occasionally I’ll add rice seasoning, soy sauce, black beans, or whatever I have on hand to enhance the flavor or nutrition of the rice.

Bidets
iPoseidon_xii@reddit
Baths. Mostly from the Turkish side from my mother. But also a work-first-play-later attitude from the Germans
ProfessionalBat8843@reddit
Electric teakettles. Thank you British Isles! You’ve made life much easier.
manderifffic@reddit
This is the first time I've seen Isles used correctly on this site
AnswerMyThrowAways@reddit
I want this so bad, but mine trips the breaker no matter what
spark99l@reddit
Not a practice or an object, but a value. After traveling in other countries I realized how so many Americans undervalue their family. I’ve since made it a priority to spend as much time as I can with my family.
Capable_Suit_7335@reddit
I don’t like using TP, water and soap is cleaner and my ocd and underwear thank me.

France - less of a rush. Make sure I take the time to get it right
