Axle too rusty for parts?

Just like the title says. Listing straight up says subframe is toast, but had the guy send over pictures for the rear axle and it honestly doesn't look too bad for $100. For reference this is Western PA.

Wait for a dry day .. do a quick scrub with a wire brush . Then spray rust converter on it .

Paint it and send it

Ohio - Looks brand new.

That just needs cleaned up. This isn't RUST, it's "rust". Surface oxidation on a big thick hunk of metal isn't the same as cancer in a panel

Axles are usually pretty thick steel, as long as it’s been kept sealed and when you drain it there isn’t a heap of rust inside it should be fine to wire wheel the rust off and repaint

Lessee here... 8.8, looks like an early Ranger?

Yep, 8.8 3.73 out of a ‘99.

Oh! Thought it'd be a 91-93 with the offset.

Axles are thick. It would be a long time and bad environment for one to rust through.

Totally fine. You can sand blast axle housings or use a knot wire brush on an angle grinder to remove the scale. Just watch your hands with those knot wire brushes… just nicked myself with one this week… ow.

I don't think you know what rust is
_ROBIN_SAGE_@reddit
I’d sand blast and paint it. “Eez like brand nu”
IronGigant@reddit
That's mint. Angle grinder w/ wire wheel attachments, a bunch of elbow grease, and a weekend.

This is the validation I came here for.

Only one way to find out

Hard to find any parts for 100 bucks, even as a core. Go for it
jooocanoe@reddit
Yea it’s toast
