Msi x870e not detecting m.2 wd sn850

So I'm taking a break now. I basically have a "new pc" built it today, it looks beautiful and all.
But damn the I have been spending hours trying to get the motherboard to detect the m.2 which would be my main boot drive, I've been looking through countless posts about the motherboard, tried everything, and idk whats going on. Should I actually take everything apart and return the motherboard? I hope not. Cause I see som posts in here about the same stuff...
General info:
-The motherboard detects everything EXCEPT the one pcie 5 slot (m.2_1) it even detects my HDD and sat SSD. On the gen 4 slot under the gen 5 slot (m.2_2) I have a wd sn1700 and it detects it JUST FINE
-The drive I'm trying to get to work has Windows installed on it (and I'd hoped that I would be able to recover the data and just use it (I have everything backed up but still)
-I am upgrading from an am4 to am5 board
What I've tried:
-Setting the pcie setting of the m.2_1 from "auto" to manual pcie "gen4"
-Bumping up the chipset core voltage from 1.050 to 1.150
-Created a Windows installation media to see if a fresh Windows installation would detect the drive via drive partition, but nope.
So what am I missing here... I was so excited for this build. Do i possibly have to just use the other two pcie gen4 slots instead and leave the gen5 slot empty?
But you know the prices rn, I want things to work properly.
Anyways... Thanks in advance for any help<33

MSI has a well documented issue with refusing to detect certain gen 4 drives for no apparent reason dating back to B650. It has nothing to do with expo or CPU voltage or anything else that you're randomly trying.
The first thing you should do is always to update the bios on a new board. That sometimes fixes but if it doesn't work you will need to swap drives to something that works like the SN7100 for your primary or swap boards.

Thank you for your comment. I will do that and report back! and yes I forgot to list that I've also updated the bios. Thankfully I do have two nvme drives with "identical speeds"

Sucks that you're running into the problem at all though, hopefully swapping drives fixes everything. good luck!

UPDATE::: So i tried swapping out drives (a little experiment" it seems like the specific gen 5 slot wont recognize any of my drives. Thr culprit is the mothetboard, the specific gen 5 slot (m.2_1)
Booted with m.2_2 and it worked perfectly, recognized my windows and all, picked up right where I left off.
drives WD black sn850x 2tb WD sn1700 2tb
I wouldn't say my problem is fixed. Since I literally cannot get the gen5 slot to work with my drives.
Should I be concerned? Should I return the motherboard?

Yeah the problem is most likely the slot itself then so you're forced to do a return and try a different unit or board model. Was it a microcetner bundle? Maybe you can bring it in and have the staff check it out for you.
