Is the RX 9070 (non-XT) still a decent GPU?

I've seen people say that it's a waste of money compared to the XT version. Is it that much worse of a card?
Libarate@reddit
I went with a 9070 because it was cheaper and I didnt need to upgrade my PSU. Great card.

I've got the 9070 and couldn't be happier! Depends on your local market but with a small price difference I'd go for the XT.

Wait theres an rx 9070 not xt??
dorting@reddit
The 9070 is just barely slower than XT. 8% to 15%
To me is the best value GPU actually.
tankhead200@reddit
What cpu are you pairing it with?
centralvoid__@reddit (OP)
5800X3D.
tankhead200@reddit
Very solid. The only issue I could ever see is maybe getting bottlenecked slightly in some applications with that cpu, but nothing worth shaking a fist at. Its a beast at 1440p and holds its weight at 4k (where you might see some stutters). Overall, it'll be a very nice experience!
tankhead200@reddit
Keep the raytracing off or minimal (especially at 4k) and probably definitely no frame drops

$100 cheaper than the XT, 10% slower, uses a good bit less power (100w?), handily beats the 5070 even in RT.
Great card.
komrade23@reddit
Not a waste of money, it's about 12 percent behind in performance while being about $100 USD more expensive. It also has a much lower power requirement and will cost less to run over the life of the card.
HEBushido@reddit
Less expensive
M3thodFud@reddit
It's a great card! I have one and love it!
If you're that worried about value, it's roughly about 10% weaker than the 9070XT, so if you see a 9070 thats about 10% cheaper than a 9070XT, you're doing fine from a value point of view.

Depends on the price difference. It was not such good value when it was close to the XT but when it dropped to the price of 5070 and sometimes below, its much better value. It sits somewhere between 5070 and 9070XT in raw performance. I got mine for 450 some time back, steal for the money. I only got rid of it because I felt like the XT was more comfy in 4K. But I got it for 540, some time prior.

Tldr. Yes
That_Lad_Chad@reddit
9070 has 16gb of VRAM which is a plus, the 9070 XT also has 16gb of vram.
If the price difference is very small, it might be worth it to go with the XT. However, the XT has a much higher power draw (and therefore heat generation) so this is a factor worth considering
ChironXII@reddit
The reason people dislike the 9070 is that it's normally barely cheaper than the XT for a decent upgrade (around 12%). So it depends on your local prices. The 9070 is a good card and has a decent amount of headroom for oc. It's basically equivalent to the 7900XT but with newer hardware and software features.
bluntspoon@reddit
Yes.
Borigh@reddit
Absolutely not, it's arguably a better value than the XT, depending on the precise prices. I actually started with a 9070 in my current build (it's in my wife's computer, now) and upgraded to a 9070 XT I found on sale, recently.
I paid $467 for the XFX Swift 9070, and $638 for the XFX Mercurcy XT. The XT scores about 15% higher on Steel Nomad, and I paid 37% more for it. Even acknowledging that price doesn't scale linearly with performance, the non-XT was almost certainly the better value. Plus, even overclocking both of them, the 9070 draws \~242 to the XT's \~374 - the 9070 kills the XT in frames-per-watt.
Frankly, running Cyberpunk with ray-tracing at 1440p on the XT, my FPS are higher. But my FPS on the 9070 was fine. They're both modern 1440p; one's just a little smoother.
dweller_12@reddit
Why are we referring to current generation GPU in past tense?
Accomplished_Emu_658@reddit
Yes. As long as price is decent. If you are paying xt money then no.
afsully@reddit
It's a solid 1440p card and runs at about 100W less than the XT. This can lead to quieter operation and less energy consumption, which is important to some people.
Bichaelcycle@reddit
Nah, it's still a really good card.
MammothFruit6398@reddit
its comparable to a 5070 whereas the XT is comparable to the TI model. People said it was a bad deal compared to the 9070xt because it was only $50 cheaper based on msrp. with the current market though, youre saving a good bit of money. not a bad card by any means.
ScrewySqrl@reddit
the 9070 non-XT is perfectly fine card, compare to the 5070 where the 9070xt compares with the 5070ti. basically its a tier lower, but still good
