Tried my best... but the lights are too dim, so it's impossible to get great photos
DuskytheHusky@reddit
Interesting. I didn't know there was another spotlight pointing at the forward part of the fuselage as well as the stabiliser
flying_wrenches@reddit
It’s called a “logo light”
A_storia@reddit
Logo light is usually the term for the light shining on vertical stabiliser. At least in Europe

Landing lights?
DuskytheHusky@reddit
I dunno. Looks to me more like it's highlighting the presidential seal
i_should_go_to_sleep@reddit
747 landing lights light up the side of the fuselage because they’re placed at the wing root
Mderose@reddit
Do you think they will have a supersonic AF1, in our lifetimes?
A_storia@reddit
A lot harder to modify with additional comms, meeting room space, seats for heaps of journalists and sleeping quarters. Widebody is a better option with longer range
Mammoth_Koala_7826@reddit (OP)
Maybe...if there will be a second Concord in the future....cause AF1 is always a modified commercial airliner
rckid13@reddit
The Concorde is tiny compared to a 747. Most presidential planes are huge because they carry a bunch of staff and have offices set up for the heads of state to work while in the air. The Concorde or and the new Boom supersonic planes can't provide that. Also the president travels with a bunch of military planes and equipment. There's no advantage to the president getting there fast if their security detail and limo are on the slow moving transport planes.
dead_toyou@reddit
boom overture perhaps. but it might be too small to fit all the equipment they have on the 747 upper deck.
Mderose@reddit
I was thinking BOOM as well. I also was curious if it would be big enough for AF1.
dead_toyou@reddit
probably not, at least not the overture. it's a narrowbody with two business class seats per row (and no economy seating) so it's small.
EmotioneelKlootzak@reddit
On the other hand, you could probably get creative with what goes where since AF1 doesn't exactly need to maximize passenger seating, plus offload some electronic warfare or similar systems to fighter escorts.
On the other other hand, I don't think we've got any supercruise capable fighters in inventory other than the F-22, and I have no idea how well it would work in a role like that.
byerss@reddit
I mean technically if you strapped a president into a B1 or F-15E it would be a supersonic Air Force One, right?
jkoz226@reddit
Probably like 60 years from now, hard to make a cow go supersonic with its aerodynamics
TogaPower@reddit
There’s absolutely zero reason for it. A presidential movement is an insanely huge logistical process that involves a large amount of work before the president actually gets anywhere. Ie, moving the trucks, limos, supporting equipment, etc. on C17s and C5s before the president ever arrives.
Thus, there would be no tangible advantage to having the president, the final piece of the puzzle, getting there a few hours quicker. Not to mention, any new supersonic airliner will take decades of vetting and approval before it ever gets anywhere near presidential movement.
It will not happen.
wanliu@reddit
Not to mention that AF1 has everything needed for the president to serve in any official capacity while airborne.
jikesar968@reddit
Anyone know when the 748 will be ready?
Anonymous017447@reddit
At this rate probably after GTA VII
