So my CPU cooler has finally died. Its been there for 8 years so i want to upgrade it, i was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations. I am fine with either liquid or air cooling.

For air cooler...Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. For AIO Thermalright Frozen Warframe 240 or 360. Both are excellent, and will handle your 3950X well.

what cpu?

I currently have a Ryzen 9 3950x. i do plan on upgrading that soon to a 9700x but these ram prices are something else.

funny thing is you'll actually lose some multi core performance. hopefully you weren't compiling software a lot. 😂

tru
well the 9700x doesnt really need much fancy cooling if you decide to do that. something like a phantom spirit would be enough and comes with am4/am5 brackets. its probably sufficient for a 3950x but im not 100% sure. could always get something like and artic freezer 3 pro. not too expensive and pretty good

Ok sweet! i was eyeing the phantom sight since it has both brackets. I appreciate the tip!

yup phantom spirit is i think slightly superior to the peerless assassin im currently using on my 7700x and costs the same so no reason not to

If your case has good air flow, a bigg air cooler should do the trick. look out for model that has lots of heat pipes.
if the included fan don't do justice you can even swapping it for a quieter / powerful fan.

Thermalright. If you're going to upgrade and push it soon, maybe the Phantom Spirit or the Peerless Assassin (the former is a little better). If you're going to upgrade in a while and don't mean to push it, you can get away with the Assassin X or the Burst Assassin. (I think the latter is a little better, but I'm not sure.)
Thermalright air coolers are basically the best cooling-per-dollar you can get, as a rule.

You could always take the old fan off then strap a new one on.
Saying this because I have a surplus of old case fans and zipties
