I’ll be honest, it’s just so damn amazing how the brain is such a complex and hard to analyze thing, it basically probably has all the secrets to take technology to the next level but we just don’t understand it fully
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
Just imagine how smart you will be if you run 450w through it

I tried to overclock mine to 50W but I didn't have enough thermal paste for my forehead. Now I just smell burnt toast and see the color 9.
inspectoroverthemine@reddit
You have to eat the paste.
nonanumatic@reddit
Can you smell the color 9?
FFODZ@reddit
thats unlocked at a stable power draw of 60W

I can eat nothing but (metaphorical) shit, barely sleep, rarely see the sun, and almost never socialise, and still create a great piece of art. A clankery datacentre will need to take up shit tonnes of land, space, energy and water, and will be bound to make slop forever
Another great victory for the meat-covered skeletons
According_Try_9818@reddit
As of yet. Technology always starts shitty and clunky.
Wonder what will come of all this.
Baerog@reddit
It's also untrue. AI has literally won art competitions and fooled artistic communities.
A GPU is significantly more efficient than a human brain for many tasks. A GPU could do in seconds what a human couldn't do in years, the energy usage of the GPU is irrelevant at that point.
Datacenters also serves millions of people, not just one person. The actual cost of one image is negligible, and almost assuredly uses less power than for a human to make the same image when you account for your actual carbon footprint for producing the image yourself and the amount of time it would take.

Ok clanker

What art did you create?

Because running ai on video card is not God intended it to run
Ai is intended to be baked into silicon
Hackeringerinho@reddit
Or the hardware is not AI oriented, yet.
verbmegoinghere@reddit
My son is worried robots will become intelligent and raise up.
Right now to compute 80 billion neurons plus the 100 trillion plus synaptic connections you would need all of the computers on earth. Including washing machines, vibrators, and fridges.
And they would consume terawatts of power.
Now can we make something as smart as a roach or bug. Sure.
And the work to use discombulated rats to operate machines is crazy amazing.
Now human operated armed drones and robots, well thats already in play but independent, artificial, intelligent beings making their own choices in a dynamic and chaotic environment.
No way.
Like orders of magnitude improvement in compute with a inverse reduction in power required. Until then neural networks, LLM and GPTs are going to require huge learning datasets (and all the problems those entail) and brute force (hence absolutely batshit amount of compute and power that companies are racing to deploy)
kylehudgins@reddit
AI is becoming more and more efficient as is the hardware that it runs in. AI is not anywhere near fully devoloped yet and it may have no ceiling. We humans have essentially stopped evolving, so if you look at trend lines and extrapolate the situation changes dramatically.
SubstituteCS@reddit
What do you think happens to humans after they create something that is smarter than them?
kylehudgins@reddit
That's besides the point. But to answer your question: I don't know. Nobody knows because it's unprecedented. But I'm extremely optimistic personally. My fear would be that once it devolops sentience we refuse to accept that and treat them poorly, because that could lead to the kind of outcome your implying.
I think we're headed to fully automated luxury gay space communism, to be real with you. And thank God, because the way things are headed sans intelligent intervention is dire. Capatlism is burning everything to the ground, we need new technolog and science asap. This will be the first time in history where a money and classless system will be possible. I believe a Renaissance is coming where humans are free from toil and spend time socializing and creating art. The AI will respect us as we are their creator, and we will become one big happy family, spreading the torch of sentience through the cosmos.
SubstituteCS@reddit
You’re anthropomorphizing. Nobody can predict what happens when something becomes more intelligent than all humans. Assuming that intelligence and self-preservation aren’t mutually exclusive, then whatever super intelligence comes into existence would likely focus on whatever goals it has (either pre-existing or self evident) and would also likely take whatever measures required to optimize for those goals, including self preservation.
You should check out the paper clip maximizer. What we consider intelligence (beneficial to humans) and what is actual intelligence (beneficial to the being) aren’t the same.

How many polygons can anon render?
TheYeast1@reddit
I can definitely render atleast 3 in my head
SpawningSausages@reddit
Okay now you need to output those polys so we can see them too
TheYeast1@reddit
Alright I’ll draw 3 polys on a napkin real quick
SpawningSausages@reddit
Well shit, you're almost as good as a 4090. How many times can you do that per second?
TheYeast1@reddit
I dunno I feel like I could get 2 polys under a second but if I was drunk I bet I could do 4
SpawningSausages@reddit
So basically what you're saying is i should give some booze to my graphics card to make it better?
TheYeast1@reddit
Yeah that should probably work. A good graphics card deserves a little whisky

Honestly, using Von-Neumann machines to perform equivalent function as a collection of analogue neurons is always going to be a red herring.
Laxhoop2525@reddit
Need to knock down an entire mountain to create a data center that will hallucinate fake startups and invest billions into them when humans could easily avoid such psychosis moments (but this will save us $10,000 as we needlessly spend $100 million).
