Oh! My first job was DJ at our local rink in the 90s, but I skated since the 80s. I have too many to list, but I'm gonna have to go with Groove Is In The Heart by Deeee-lite!
I even wrote/directed an indie coming-of-age flick set in the 90s called All Nite Skate!
It has a cool 90s soundtrack and is available to watch for free at my websites:
www.allniteskatethemovie.com and/or www.spoonpicturesproductions.com
You can cast the movie from your phone or watch on any browser! The movie is a labor of love from me and my rink rat friends.
Hope you all dig it! :)

Daylight-Silence@reddit
My skating rink experience was like the very early '90s, before it had culturally become "The 90sā¢" and it was still sort of just the '80s in overtime.
I feel like it was very New Kids on the Block-heavy
Medical-Purple@reddit
I like that..."80's in overtime" lol
Daylight-Silence@reddit
I also sometimes call it "The Point Break era." That's a complete '80s movie, I don't care when it was released.
There's a lot of stuff that went on in 1990 and 1991 pre-Nevermind that's totally just the '80s aesthetic starting to run on fumes
Plumeria9798@reddit
Haha, mine too! The songs I remember most from the skating rink are those and U Canāt Touch This. Maybe also Ice Ice Baby, I think. Oh, and Walk the Dinosaur.Ā

It depended on the year and mood. If it was to hold hands with the girl you liked, the hit request was "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams. If you were looking to showcase the right-over-left skate crossover you were perfecting or sticking one skate out in front while squatting over the other skate, it was āWe Didnāt Start the Fireā by Billy Joel. If you just wanted to purge some sixth grade rage, āEnter Sandmanā was a hit request, although some rinks were hesitant to play metal.
MoarFlavor@reddit
Our local rink would have āblackoutā skates where they completely kill the lights and crank out the jams, which Iām almost positive would be completely banned these days. By the time Enter Sandman was crushing the airwaves, the blackout skate was a staple. I miss it so much. The pizza, the arcade machines, all of it.
