im upgrading from an rx 580, and im curious how well does a rtx 2070 hold up, getting one for 250$ in cananda
tiga_94@reddit
why not save up a bit for a 5060 ?

I got one for cheap off eBay a few months back, had to add new thermal pads and new thermal paste. It's decent for 1080p gaming especially with esports and older games. Newer games will be disappointing

You could easily find an rtx 3060 ti which will be a much better card. I live in Canada and have seen many 3060 ti’s for $220-$250

Going from an RX 580 to an RTX 2070 is honestly a pretty big jump. You’ll definitely feel it immediately.
For 1080p gaming it still holds up pretty well:
It’s basically in that “older but still very capable” zone now. Not cutting-edge, but far from useless. TechPowerUp still lists it as a strong 1080p / decent 1440p card.
The only thing is… $250 CAD feels slightly high for a normal 2070 in 2026 unless your local market is rough. A few Reddit comments today were saying around that price you might even find a used 2080 if you’re patient. (Reddit)
Still, if the card is:
then it’s still a respectable upgrade over the RX 580.

wait would you actually do that! i live in canada the land of snow
Zestyclose_Paint3922@reddit
Getting old now.

250$ CAD? It a decent card. But I wouldn't pay that much for it. At that price you should be able to find a 2080 maybe a 2080 ti.
WhoWouldCareToAsk@reddit
Oh, man! 250$ is… predatory for a card of this age. I mean, you are getting an upgrade, but 250$?! I understand it’s the AI-induced pricing, but still, I would save up and buy something more recent.

It's still runs well for my vacation house, but I only play older games up there. Newer AAA games are not going to hold up well.
cigr@reddit
My wife's rig is running my old 2070. It's still a great card.
blind_stone@reddit
what cpu and what games do you play
discoloredSmile@reddit (OP)
r5 5500 and marvel rivals is my main game im playing
theRealtechnofuzz@reddit
you'll see some uplift, but rivals is very heavy on the cpu. I would try to get a used 5700x. 5500 is weaker because of less L3 cache.
AceLamina@reddit
Had a 2070 super 2 weeks ago but recently got a 5070ti
It's decent, still runs games like cyberpunk at max graphics, you won't be able to use RTX well at all however, but you probably won't care much about it
I should know that CPU is important and bottleneck can show, I have a i7 12th gen, if that helps
TheDreadfulSagittary@reddit
It's alright for 1080p medium/high, just a little weaker than the common 3060 12GB.
