Pets in GA

I've seen a LOOOOT of content online about pilots taking their dogs/cats to fly in their GA aircraft. This made me curious, any pilots in here that do that? If so, at what age of your pet did you start taking them to fly, how long did it take them to get comfortable, do you use earmuffs for them?

Give your dog a headset so they can bark at all those idiots meowing on guard.

Give the cat the mic to meow on guard

The most wacky thing I've seen about pets in GA was a guy who didn't want his dogs in his airplane so he would charter a second plane just to get his dogs to Hawaii. Â

Be aware that animals get hypoxic much faster and at lower altitudes than humans. It’s nice/cute that they fall asleep but don’t keep them up too high for too long.

fly at lower altitudes - they absorb oxygen differently. keep them hydrated. start small with short flights that you can easily end if dog isnt doing well.

First time my dog joined me in the back seat he freaked the hell out when his car ride took flight and the road started moving further away from him. He jumped into my lap as I’m trying to adjust the prop and my dad had to grab him off of my lap. He then fell asleep in the floor behind my seat for the next hour. Now he loves flying and doesn’t try to kill us after take off lol
