Upgrading my GPU.

I've been pushing this off for a couple months but it's getting to a point where I can't just ignore how annoying it's getting. I'm currently stuck with a Radeon RX 6650 XT MECH 2X 8G OC. I'm kind of impressed with how poorly it's run lately and I can't tell if it's a user issue or if it's just due for an upgrade. I'm looking to upgrade to the ASUS Dual Radeon™ RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 and am just looking for info on if it's a substantial enough upgrade to fork over $450+. For reference my original pc build was just a little $600 not including peripherals so this gpu alone is 80% of my entire build.

Your pc system is completely fine specwise, there's probably some issue that popped up that you need to troubleshoot. When in doubt, you could just reinstall windows and all your drivers.

Are you at 1080p or 1440p? At 1080p ultra the 6600xt with the 5800x has still been solid for my wife but just regular fps nothing great. What fps are you at?
Good thing you can resell the 6650xt for $150 and get you something newer without being out of pocket much!

My monitor is at 1080, I play a lot of league and whatever I'd have the fps set to, it struggled to stay within 10 fps of my desired and I've been getting pretty bad stutters and have even gotten entire pop-ups telling me that windows had restarted my gpu driver mid game.

Ah man, well I own a 7800xt that's pretty similar to a 9060xt 16gb, so I think you'd be pretty happy with it!

Used 4070s or 3080s are always a good choice at that price range or lower.

please provide the rest of your specs. PSU included. Could be something other than your gpu causing issues... If you're trying to play at 1440p for example, you're going to have a bad time...

My monitor only supports 1080 so I'm not trying to play at 1440. The reason I'm trying to upgrade my gpu is because I've done a few benchmark tests and my gpu consistently comes up with poor performance.

what cpu and motherboard are you using? If you're on an older platform you're likely being bottlenecked by pcie gen 3. Your GPU only has 8 pcie 4.0 lanes and not the full 16 lanes. It's likely not causing major issues, but could be part of the problem.

I have a AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6 core which shouldn't be causing any bottleneck. And I have an A520M-A Pro (MS-7696)

your motherboard is the problem. A-series is pcie gen 3 only. B550 or X570 is pcie gen 4.

Alright, well do you have a recommendation for one that would fit in my micro atx case?

MSI B550M-VC Wifi.

I recommend you increase your budget and get a 9070 or 5070 instead. They are significantly more powerful than the 9060 (1.4x-1.5x better) while only costing about 20-25% more ($550ish).

The 9070 vs 5070 question has been asked so many times that I literally saved my comment so I don't have to type the same answer to same question over and over again.

What's your CPU?

It's a noticeable but not massive upgrade, probably in the 20-40% range depending on the game, resolution, and settings. Whether it's worth $450+ depends on your resolution, target FPS, specific games, and how frustrated you are with the current performance.

I've avoided buying any performance heavy games on my pc mainly because I worry my gpu can't handle it. My current big offender is league, when I first started I had no issue getting a consistent 300+ fps, but the last couple months no matter what framerate I've got it set at, it not only struggles to stay within 10 fps of it, but has occasionally bad stutters during entity heavy parts of the game, say near endgame where a bunch of champions and minions are around each other.

I'd do it. Numbers go higher = better. Double the vram. Worth the upgrade by itself but you get a whole bunch more gpu with it too 😁

itll be a big jump so go for it
