getting a CDL with 6 points?

Hi so i was thinking on changing careers and becoming a trucker... Now unfortunately a little over 2 years ago I have gotten a 6 points for driving way over the speed limit in Wisconsin (I'm in IL I also believe this might have been a reckless driving charge) While I think the points fall off after 3 years I have had no major issues since that incident. That being said, what are the chances of me finding a job when the points fall off?

The individual charges matter more than the number of points. Reckless driving on your record is a dealbreaker for most of the big training companies. Anything 15+ over will have a similar effect.

i might not lol

It’s a life commitment especially with your license, if you get a speeding ticket for even 5 over in your personal car it will affect your cdl. It’s dumb but that’s the rules.

was only going to do it for 5 years then im out but yeah that is kinda risky

most companies ask about 3 years clean, maybe 5. decent odds

Is the industry looking for workers?

I just started my career in trucking with a reckless driving from 2021. It was incredibly hard to find a job when I started searching. Schnedier finally took me and I did my 4 months with them and moved over to JB. Not saying it’s impossible but I’d consider getting a few years gap on the Reckless before committing.

was thinking that too I also have many family members jumping ship into trucking because the no longer want to do nursing and what not... I also hate my current job

6 points won’t keep you from getting a job… the reckless driving thing could. That being said, as a beginner the difference between a “good” company and a “bad company is blurry at best.
If you’re generally an angry or reckless driver I’d just avoid the industry and save the time and money. Get into HVAC or welding or something.

You can always find work. Work that pays well is the struggle.

isnt that an issue with anyone new to the industry? also.... what would a newbies pay look like?
