Count me skeptical. They couldn’t figure out original rust bucket even with all USSR might. Now everything new Russia shows is rebadged Chinese stuff.
HEAT-FS@reddit
What did they fail to figure out?
arcticrobot@reddit
Production of reliable and dependable vehicle. Thing required fixing straight from assembly line
NecessarySudden@reddit
Yep. There is not single reliable or dependable car soviets made. Cheap? Yes. But it always was rusty shit with possibility of breaking down while in the garage. I grew up with dad and grandpa driving soviet shit. I had to hold door so it wouldn't open while driving sometimes. Every freezing morning you had to guess why this shit didn't want to start

My dad used to have Volga 3110 that he bought brand new. He had to fix and recalibrate valves immediately and then they would never stay properly calibrated. And this was one of the most dependable vehicles soviet produced. He replaced it with used LC Prado and never been happier.

Looks like shit.
What a missed opportunity to make a retro boxy compact SUV that would be a huge success if good.
But I guess they hate money.

Dacia Duster is that you?
k-one-0-two@reddit
No, Lada is not a oert of Renault alliance now, so I bet it is the same Niva with a new-ish body. Maybe with a "powerful" 1.8 engine

They can ask Chinese automakers for powertrains, as still many Chinese automakers do business in Russia.
k-one-0-two@reddit
They did already. They tried to sell a rebadged Chery (iirc), it flopped.

Russian car industry has a history of replacing things but not actually. The UAZ496 and the UAZ452. I'm sure it will be sold along it.
Captain_Alaska@reddit
Real question is if it’ll actually replace the Niva Legend, this isn’t the first time there’s been a new Niva.

I mean at that point just buy an actual Duster, oh wait...
