Coolest Titanium AR (IMO) on GunBroker with Zero Bids for Months. What Am I Doing Wrong?
Posted by ZLordofThunder@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 71 comments
Hey all š
To preface, I took this gun to a shop, and they were packed. Every worker stopped what they were doing just so they can circle around and hold this bad boy. So⦠in my opinion - the entire store pausing sales for One Gun, in a store full of cool guns - must mean that it is in fact one of the dopest arms out there. YET zero Bids. š¤¦āāļø
Trying to get some quick feedback from people who sell on GunBroker.
Iāve got a rifle package on there thatās easily worth 2.5k+ all in, but I havenāt gotten a single bid in months.
My starting bid is set noticeably lower than the total value and itās still crickets.
For those of you who move higherāend stuff:
- What usually kills interest on GunBroker listings?
- Is it smarter to split rifle, optic, and extras instead of one big package?
- Any tips on photos, titles, or starting bid strategy that actually gets bids?
- Is there a better option Iām not even aware of?
Not trying to sell anything here, just want to fix whatever Iām doing wrong on GunBroker.
Thx again for any and all advice š
ohnolagman@reddit
I think you got your answer. I use gunbroker for rare/discontinued/hard to find firearms. Like a car with mods you limit your market immensely. Add on your (most likely) limited feedback on the site you are most likely best served to consign it or sell to a shop.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Yeah, this was a good experiment at least. Definitely got some market data out of it, plus some added insight into the level of misery that looms over certain peopleās entire being.
To your point, I recently got a new S5 and added basically every warranty you can think of. Iāve put around 10k miles on it so far, no mods, no nothing. Itās fast, loud, sexy, and luxurious, and because of the mileage and condition, it has barely dropped in value.
I operated with that same principle for the gun. Difference is, nobody can compare a Honda, Toyota, or Lexus to an Audi with a straight face and say thatās genuinely what theyād pick if money werenāt a factor. But with ARās, some people will not only compare cheap ARās to higher-end options, theyāll wholeheartedly believe the cheap route is better.
Appreciate your reply brotha š
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
My man the issue is that you think your gun is a lambo but itās actually just a honda civic that you stuck a fin and thin racing tires on.
Skywarper@reddit
How many nft's do you own
SirNonSequitur@reddit
Oh hey I scrolled past this rifle today and didnāt bid on it lol
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
It's a custom build with questionable parts chosen for aesthetics over functionality built by a guy with no track record, contracts, or reputation. Why the fuck would anyone want it, let alone want to pay $2.5k for it (which, btw, gets you pretty much any 5.56 gun you'd want).
I mean fuck it looks like you didn't even put a popular suppressor host muzzle device on the thing.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
dude, read the post before u blow up hahah. The whole package Bid starts under $1k for a package worth over 2.5k. Jeeeez bud
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
Ok... change $2.5k to $1k in your head and read it again.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Itās not just the gun dude. I bought the gun for $1,500 and used it 3 times - shot a total of like 200 bullets. Literally looks, feels, and smells brand new. So youāre not only able to buy the gun for under $1k, you also get a few hundred bullets, an extra mag, scope, headgear, and a Savior Equipment Urban Warfare double rifle bag (size matched to rifle), and a few other things.
But if itās not your cup of tea, then itās not your cup of tea mang. All good š
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
I mean that also makes it a USED gun, which further knocks down the price right?
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Depends. Which Porsche GT3 RS cost more:
(Both purchased at the same time)
driven 90 miles by EOY
driven 7,000 miles by EOY
Do you think that Porsche 1 is going to get the same offers as Porsche 2 just because theyāre both āUSEDā?
Answer:
A 2024 GT3 RS with 90 miles is listed around $650k. One with 7k miles is around $500k. Both are used. One is just $150k less used.
So yes, itās used. Barely. Condition, mileage, demand, and extras still matter.
SirNonSequitur@reddit
Delusional
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
Your analogy is wrong⦠the question you should be asking is which porsche 911 costs more⦠the one thatās new on the dealer floor or the one you bought 2 mins ago that you just drove off the dealer floor.
ameruelo@reddit
Youāre here complaining because itās no oneās cup of tea.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Youāre too silly
Greedy-Vast584@reddit
gafshub.com and it'll sell quick IMO.. definitely split optic
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Bet, Iāll shoot you a message
Greedy-Vast584@reddit
good luck! if you're not priced right, just expect some feedback from the people there which is hopefully better than the feedback from here lol
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Iāll keep you posted! Yeahhh, letās hope lol. When everyoneās busy arguing on assumptions, a few clear voices can cut through.
Keep it up bro š
CowboysFan0982@reddit
Your main issue is that you're enamored with the gun and have an emotional attachment to it. That makes you unwilling to see the validity of the unbiased opinions you're receiving from this post.
Maybe this rifle is listed for bookoo money on the Fostech site, but MSRP is different than retail value. Have you even searched what these go for currently? It took me 5 seconds to find this listing.
You need to temper your expectations on what this gun is worth. Fostech is not generally seen as one of the "it" brands in the gun community. Other than the weight, it's a basic AR. The "extras" you have aren't anything crazy and generally aren't adding a ton of value to a purchaser. You may be able to piece out that stuff on Gafshub.com and get more than you would as a sweetener to the rifle. Then sell the rifle by itself, but be realistic about what it's worth.
ThinkGear568@reddit
Who made it? People want name brand, that may be your problem, there's a ton of ARs on the market from $500 - $1000, you're trying to sell one for $2500, that's your 2nd problem. It's titanium, and while that is cool, it's also questionable, most people want milspec or they wanna build their own custom, so that's your 3rd problem. Your options are unload it for a lot less than you paid for it or keep it.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Fostech Flite Eagle - Didnāt want to include specifics to avoid ban. Obviously this is my first time here lol.
Nope, 2.5k was my cost - bidding starts below $1k. For the full package.
Yeahhh so I just looked up more details and it is Milspec, with titanium parts. This is my first gun so Im still a noob when it comes to this world. I posted full Titanium because thatās what I was told when I bought it. But I guess itās a mixture.
Either way, itās still a 5lb AR, which makes it that much cooler and unique imo.
ChuddMcGee@reddit
dawg 2.5k? that's like Diamond Back quality, 1k would be the maximum anyone should pay for that
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
š© I SPENT over $2.5k, Iām selling it dirt cheap for what it is
LawfulPurposes@reddit
That's sucks dude. But you overpaid by a lotttt. You won't recoup the money you think you will with this rifle. I think a realistic price would be about $700-$800. Is it truly Ti, or just cerakoted?
Sell the optics/accessories on GAFSHUB
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Itās all good bro, appreciate that! I donāt think so though, the whole package was that much with the Holosun GR, which was $400 alone.
But Iām not trying to recoup what I spent, Iām fully aware that wonāt happen. I definitely donāt think the gun alone is worth anything less than $1k. All the extra goodies are around $500, so technically youād be buying a gun for around $1k and get $500 worth of supplies and such.
To me, that sounds like a great deal, but then again. I am also the one who spent near double to use it 3 times. So the target audience is me. But I donāt buy used things. Safe to assume the right audience doesnāt either. So now we gotta figure out who that audience is. Probably wealthy but cheap, cheap enough to spend comfortably, cheap enough to make rational decisions, but wealthy enough to buy their wants at justified cost - therefore top of the line, used.
Iāll report back once itās done lol
ChuddMcGee@reddit
lmfaoooo never used gunbroker but that site certainly attracts a certain type of person
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
yeaaaa same here, seems like this post is having that same effect lol
JJ12345678910@reddit
Hey - Tough love mode on.
I'm glad you are proud of your gun. But here is the reality. The second you took it home, its used. You can say like new all you want, but its used. That is just how it works. You bought a gimmick rifle from a company that charges a lot of money for their stuff. Which is ok, if its your forever rifle. Its the reason I bought my M107a1. I hate money and like cool stuff. But even as a person that hates money, I don't buy FosTech stuff. They just don't quite match up their reputation with their price point for most people. When you try to sell it, you need to remember that people can get functionally the same thing from PSA for 600 bucks.
Looking at the listing itself, I want second what a lot of people mentioned already.
- You took potato quality photos
- You list out the stuff that comes with it, but don't mention which trigger it has, which is a $300 price point differential. Don't mention brand on iron sights. Don't mention model on the holosun. Don't mention brand on ammo. Don't mention brand on magazines - which screams to me - bottom tier.
- FWIW with the binary trigger, MSRP is $1,700 for this rifle per their website. Which means it will be less than that at most stores. That being siad, there are literally brand new FosTech Flite rifles with BINs lower than the starting price on your used ($929).
The final thing you're fighting against? 14 years of "the liberals are taking our guns" and every one and their brother buying ARs. The market is absolutely saturated, and the secondary market suffers as a result.
TL;DR - drop the price or keep it. At what your asking you will have to wait for just the right person to come along, and the first question that person is like to ask will be "which trigger does it have"
bowtie_k@reddit
You didn't list the brand.
You didn't list the model.
Without knowing what it is you're selling nobody can tell you if there's even a market for it, and without seeing your listing, nobody can say what you're doing wrong. While I agree with others that the market for a used "custom," expensive AR-15 is hilariously low, I would imagine with your extras that 1k really isn't a bad price. It's probably your key words and pics that suck (especially if you're using a pic like the one in the thread).
AlphaRomeoCollector@reddit
Think about a new Honda Civic. If a kid puts a bunch of accessories from AutoZone on it has the value increased or decreased? I would say decreased as the target market for the car is now smaller. Same thing with a Frankenstein AR.
WVGunsNGoats@reddit
It's a really poor market to try and sell an AR in, My suggestion is wait for the next Election cycle.
Skywarper@reddit
Gas is almost $5 a gallon. I'm not gonna drop a grand on a used and customized ar.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Used 3 times in 2 years, not custom at all. Gas is not expensive, food is.
Skywarper@reddit
Give me 50 bucks so I can fill my tank then.
blacklassie@reddit
If people aren't bidding then it's not worth what you're asking. The market is the market. I would definitely consider selling as individual components. Otherwise, you're waiting for that one buyer who wants exactly your build and is willing to pay top dollar for it.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
No, I think that this thread alone proves that guns like this have a niche audience. To top it off, I had to block half the US from the ability to purchase due to local state revaluations.
It is what it is though, selling this is the least of my priorities, just figured Iād test something and get the word out there to make some action happen.
13NeverEnough@reddit
Everyone didn't stop to hold it.
Also, no build list?
Spam
RowdyRusty420@reddit
Sorry man, only way id even consider that gun is if it was sub $450. And id be tossing the grip and stock in the trash. And then getting drunk and rattle canning it in my garage.
Youll have better luck separating everything
HeughJanus@reddit
nobody on gunbroker cares for overpriced "custom" ars. 2.5k is top tier brand money and they arent gonna waste it on something that looks like something you bought at a gunshow and spray painted with a metallic spray paint from home depot.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Not a custom AR! Indeed, however; which is why it starts below $1k, and to me seems like a legit deal for something like this. Includes 2-300 ammo, 2 mags, carrier bag over $150, unused iron sights, etc. Thatās why Iām a little bit mind blown.
But then again, I was also told these types of guns have a very niche market, which is also surprising but I guess makes sense, and it aligns with what you are saying too.
ameruelo@reddit
To you it seems like a good deal. To the market it does not.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
As my old mentor would say āDonāt assume, or youāll make an ass out of you and meā.
Appreciate your engagement
PutridDropBear@reddit
This guy "knows what he's got" though.
rockit_jocky@reddit
Why are you calling it a titanium AR when nothing is titanium?
GregorIsABug@reddit
Custom builds will never get what you have in them. Have you thought about doing a penny start?
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
It'll only sell for what it's worth then, OP would never.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
I meaaaaan. Never say never lol. One gunshop said they would sell it for around $1,800 - $1,900 and tried to offer $800, like yeah youāre out of your mind lol. Nevertheless, glad they slipped up on their price.
CorneliusSoctifo@reddit
That's how things work. Buy low, sell high, leave room for negotiation. That brick and mortar store has to pay for the building, licenses, insurance, utilities and meriad of things you don't know. All said he probably makes $150 off that rifle if it takes over 45 days to sell.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
They said they just sold the same model that same day. Eitherway thatās done for
CorneliusSoctifo@reddit
That's sales 101....
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Yeah no. I built a pretty big company so I know a thing or 2 about sales. Offering your customer whoās gun the whole store had to hold $800 then tell him theyāll sell it for more than double, is not sales 101⦠Thatās āhow to be a small store and stay one at thatā. I countered with $1k - nothing crazy. Then they said we can do layaway and theyāll sell it in 2 weeks tops, and theyāll just take 15-20%. That makes a total profit of \~$240 for them, and leaves me with $1,560, as opposed to my counter offer of $1k now and they can near quadruple their profit. To say no to that is just a horrible business decision
CorneliusSoctifo@reddit
Brother you are clueless.
Everyone in the store had to stop and see and hold the gun,but.... "They sold the same model the same day"
If they sold the same gun that same day why would everyone need to look at it? They were trying to reassure you of their experience, a common sales tactic. You being a great businessman should have seen that.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Shouldāve been more clear. Thatās two different stores. Store one had to hold it, store 2 out the gate said they just sold one for $1.2k so if iām looking for around that price theyāre not interested.
My boy! Chill with calling people you donāt know clueless.
CorneliusSoctifo@reddit
I'm not the one trying to sell "the coolest titanium AR on GunBroker" for months with no traction.
You spent $2500 and your auction is starting under $1000. So you built a gun and are now trying to sell it for under 50% of what you paid. And now you've taken to reddit to cry about it. If that isn't the definition of clueless I don't know what is
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
Seeing the model you're selling a rifle that sold for $1100 new for $1000 and you have no feedback, there's your problem.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
youāre looking at the wrong rifle G
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
I ain't G.
Hell, tombstone still has one in stock.
ZLordofThunder@reddit (OP)
Damn, lemme fix this post before it gets busy lol. It is NOT custom build, just a Fostech Flite Eagle. But yeah⦠starting to see that for sure.
Ok_Crab_3522@reddit
That's an even bigger issue... Fostech guns are kinda shit and were only purchased for their questionable meme triggers before FRT's came around and kicked the entire company into the garbage can.
Strong_Dentist_7561@reddit
Custom always loses money unless itās a vintage Smith or Colt, or a Winchester rifle.
Also, the buying market is absolutely tanked right now
kapitalnoir@reddit
Send the link. Ignore the comment section here. Itās likely presentation or photos holding you back.
kapitalnoir@reddit
Though it was a custom build. Nevermind. Sell all the accessories separately and just sell the gun with everything it came with originally.
paulfuckinpepin@reddit
What your parts list for this rifle?
Do you have it stated in details? If not, people arent gonna risk more than a paycheck on this.
I sold a titanium cerakoted zev billet w/ wedgelock handguard, criterion barrel, larue trigger, bcm buffer system, dd furniture, and a chrome lined noveske bolt for $1600 about two years ago.
Your stngr like handguard doesnt scream $2500 package
NicePumasKid@reddit
What exactly is titanium about it? Ā Handguard alone makes me not even want it. Ā
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
The color, presumably cerakote.
NicePumasKid@reddit
Thatās sort of what I was thinking.
cowboy3gunisfun@reddit
Chop it up and sell the parts, you might 70% of what you put in to it.
blackspike2017@reddit
Well fire one your pics are shit.
chainmail97ws6@reddit
Do you have any more info or better pictures? I can barely see what parts are on it. But quite honestly ARs are so cheap right now you would be hard pressed to get $500 for it. The market is flooded and even though it might have what you consider a cool factor unless itās some kind of rare vintage unicorn itās not worth much at all unfortunately.
Try cashforarms.com, I actually sold a few guns to them and I felt that they gave me a reasonable amount.
Please keep in mind that money spent into it is not the āvalueā or worth of the complete rifle. You could dump $5000 in mods on a car and barely change the value at all, same concept.
